Checking sites on the 'net, even with Tripadvisor, etc, doesn't give a really accurate picture. One has to experience it.The Pasanggrahan looked ieally placed and priced. So, we booked this " Royal Guest House ", first built in 1905, and asked for a room on the ground floor as stairs are not us. Got #105, one of 5 rooms facing...

No we didn't stay at the Passagrahan hotel, but at a lovely, relaxing and casual Breakfast on the shaded porch of Passagrahan, while overlooking the hustle and bustle in front of us against the blue waters of the Caribbean ocean. (Reason enough to give the restaurant a thumbs up). We started with mimosas to bring a toast to the birthday...

We stayed at Pasanggrahan for three nights and it was perfect! It is right on the beach, has a great little restaurant and is a convenient place to experience Phillipsburg and the surrounding area. The rooms are basic, but clean and spacious. Staff is incredibly nice and helpful. They loan out beach towels, have lounge chairs and umbrellas on the...

For 8 years have been coming to this hotel i would not go any where else unless it was closed . We always stay in the old section , yes you have stairs to climb (which can be good exercise unless you have had a liquid night out) but if when booking or enquiring about the hotel you ask about...

The hotel is not very new (we stayed in old wing though). Though, we loved that taste of old Colonial style, unique accessories (different in every room), and feeling like you were in 19th century, but with all amenities :) Very good location vs other hotels. The hotel provides beach chairs and beach towels for free, as well as free...

Stayed here for a few days prior to getting on Island Windjammers tall ship Sagitta. Location is right on the beach around the corner from the port so it was real convenient. Had a very nice room on the beach in their older section which worked great. Staff was helpful especially Colbert at the desk.

Stayed in dec 2014. Had a king superior room on the 3rd floor of the "old building". The room had a small couch, fridge, 2 closets, desk, and flat screen tv. The bed was a king size. The balcony was terrific. Perfect view of great bay. The bathroom was spacious and clean. The downsides... The bed was very uncomfortable. Not...

We stayed here in March and we came back in November. We were warmly welcomed back. Our stay was enjoyable yet again. Our only recommendation would be to move the TV in front of the bed in the suite rooms. You cannot see the TV from the bed. We will be back again....

A group of us travelled to Anguilla for a week and then came to stay in St. Maarten for a few days. Two members of our group were staying here and 5 of us joined them for dinner. They had a prime rib special and it was delicious. Had a white sweet potato which I had never had before and...

There is not a better location in Phillipsburg! We stayed in a wonderfully renovated room in the old section of the hotel, and completely enjoyed it, especiall the views over the beach and sea. One of the things that makes the Pasanggrahan special is the family atmosphere with the staff. It seems they have all been there for a long...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
"The Pasanggrahan Royal Guesthouse is St. Maarten's oldest and most charming inn. Formerly a rooster farm, Governor's home, V.I.P. guest house, and Dutch Royal Residence, it is ideally located in Philipsburg on a white sand beach amidst enchanting tropical gardens and enclosed within its original stone walls: a green oasis hidden on Front Street. A national landmark and one of the last bastions of West Indian culture, the Pasanggrahan is secluded and offbeat in the heart of St. Maarten’s capital, and it's a minute's stroll to shops, restaurants, casinos, banks and other institutions and activities. This authentic, colonial style inn has all the special features of a larger hotel including concierge service, the Sidney Greenstreet Bar, boardwalk beach bar, complementary chaise lounges, beach towels, and social hour. “A special place for special people” General Information"This vintage West Indian-style guesthouse has a prime spot on the beach in Philipsburg, sandwiched between the busy, narrow main street of Philipsburg and the harbor. It's set back and shaded under tall trees, a charming relic from another time. In fact, this was once the summer home of the Dutch Queen Wilhelmina, and the interior has a gracious, late-19th-century feel, with peacock bamboo chairs, Indian spool tables, and a gilt-framed oil portrait of the Dutch queen. The small- to medium-size accommodations have queen-size, double, or king-size beds with four-poster designs; some are in the main building and others are in an adjoining annex. The finest have genuine colonial flair, with antique secretaries and four-posters swaddled in mosquito netting, madras valances, hand-stitched quilts, beamed ceilings, and still life paintings. Set among lush palms is the harborfront Pasanggrahan Restaurant, which specializes in fresh fish caught by the hotel's own deep-sea charter fishing boat and family-style dinners. ... more   less
