One word...Bernice!! The owner couldn't have been more welcoming, accommodating and truly warm spirited! I was treated like a friend from the minute I checked in. Being a solo traveller, this had an amazing impact as it can be a bit lonely in a big anonymous hotel. I was working at the SXM festival at Happy Bay, a 3 minute drive so the location was perfect. Best water pressure I have ever experienced, and no bugs! I am really glad I chose to stay at Over The Hill, it was a great experience and look forward to my return next year. The only advice I have, hit the supermarket as things on the French side of St Martin close early

Great place. Nice and cozy with a beautiful view. We had room #7. It’s a two bedroom apartment. Nice big private parking. This place is on the hill. It’s very quiet area. The location is good if you have a car. Otherwise no so much. It’s about 10-15 min walk to the closest beach. Near by you have 3-4 amazing beaches. Probably best on the island. Friar’s Bay, Petite Plage, Grand Case, Happy Bay. The host is amazing. She is so friendly. Ready to help you for anything. It was amazing to be her guest. They do lots of renovations in the apartments. Don’t expect to get High end apartment. It’s an average apartment. Motel stile probably it will be best explanation. But everything you need is there! The beds are comfortable and the rooms are spacious. Big supermarket (Super U) is about 5-7 min drive. Gas station is just a minute away. Many good restaurants are near by. We love to eat at Lolo’s. All together it’s excellent what you get for your money. I’m highly recommending it.

Over the Hill Guesthouse overlooks the gastronomic capital of the Caribbean, Grand Case, its anchorage, and across the Anguilla Channel to Anguilla. You are five minutes or less to the restaurants and beaches of Grand Case, ten minutes (without traffic) to Marigot and a bit longer to Princess Juliana Airport on the Dutch side. Also, about 15 minutes to Orient Bay. Nothing is far in St. Martin. Traffic can be bad at morning and evening rush hour, where a 10 minute trip can take an hour. However, even in rush hour, Grand Case is still a fast commute. The guesthouse rooms are clean and comfortable, with en suite bathrooms (showers only), soap, towels, and air conditioning. Some suites have kitchenettes. There are studios, one bedrooms and one two-bed unit. Breakfast is available on one-day notice for 10: bacon, eggs, bread, fresh fruit, juice, and coffee/tea. There is a BBQ and outdoor picnic tables available for the guests. We felt very safe here. There is a covered and open terrace for common use. Lots of parking. The property is owned and managed by Berenice, the granddaughter of the founder of the guesthouse, Yvette Richardson, after whom the dead-end lane, “Impasse” in French, is named. Berenice is the best reason to stay here: she is helpful, unflappable, efficient, accommodating, generous and lots of fun. We feel strong affection for Berenice, just after one week. This is great value for your money. You can choose to stay on the beach in a deluxe resort for $400/day (or more) or you can stay a few minutes drive away for $400/week. We highly recommend this property.

If you want to share the real life of the local people, stay at The Over The Hills Guest House. Bernice is just the sweetest, nicest person with a great sense of humor. she will make you feel right at home! We were there over the hollydays and she invited us to share New year'eve festivities with her family. We were treated like friend and not at all like tourists... The room are nice, the view is beautiful and there is also a beautiful garden to relax. I highly recommand this place.

We spent 3 nights in this lovely place before starting a sailing trip. This place is lovely, the host takes care of everything you ask for. The offer breakfast and you can request what you would like. We got great fruits, scrambled eggs and everything else we asked for. Would definitely come back.

I stayed at Over the Hill together with my dad for 6 nights in early February. First off, I recommend making sure to get the exact address down before heading off, as a faded sign painted on a wall down the road (and the house number above the entrance) are the only indicators that you've come to the right place. Speaking of arriving, unless you want to rely on local public transit, I recommend getting a rental car (free parking is provided right behind the house), as the guest house is rather far off from the cities (approx. 2.5km to Marigot). Upon our arrival we were surprised to find ourselves standing in front of closed doors. A paper on the building's front door contained a phone number which I tried to call, but got no answer; the phone number provided on our booking confirmation was, as an automated message informed us, "unavailable". After a few minutes, though, we were greeted by a friendly young woman who, after some confusion (neither her English, nor my French were extraordinarily good), checked us in and gave us the keys to our room. The room itself (king-size bedroom with an ensuite bathroom) was immaculately clean and, despite being rather sparsely furnished, felt comfortable, and even had a fridge included free of charge. Breakfast can be booked during the booking process and is 10€ per person per night. One thing that should be noted is that, even when booked in advance, breakfast needs to be 'ordered' the evening before, telling the staff the exact time when one would like to have breakfast. Unfortunately, as nobody told us about this on our day of arrival, we were left without breakfast on our first morning (the 20€ were refunded later on, though). The girl who had checked us in (I believe her name was Mélanie) also prepared breakfast every morning, and while we sometimes had to wait up to 15 minutes despite ordering it the day before, she certainly did her best, and the breakfast was comprehensive, tasty and very diverse. Another thing that should be noted is that (as we found out later on) the actual owner of the guest house (Bernice if I remember correctly) was out of the house during our stay, and the two people managing the house in her absence were taking care of the guests in place of her, so perhaps some things would have been different with her taking care of things herself. Regardless of that, I had a good experience overall; there was nothing to complain about concerning quality and service; the price for everything was more than fair, and I'll definitely stay there again next time I'm in St. Maarten.

We stayed at Over the Hill for four days and it was pretty good. We were in one of the apartments down the hill from the main house. The room was a bit dated and and it had been smoked in. The location is ideal for getting to Grand Case, Marigot, and the northern part of the island. It is also jusT up the street from Fryes Beach and Happy Bay. Bernice is an awesome owner and will make sure you have everything you need.

First, if you are looking for a guest house that is very close to lots of things, this isn't it. But I wasn't looking for that. What I needed was a place to hang out and get stuff done before starting my new job in St Martin. This was absolutely the best place, very affordable, and Bernice went out of her way to make me feel comfortable. I would definitely reccommend it, and I will certainly go back if I find myself in need of another guest house near Grand Case.

This is my second time staying at Over the Hill, absolutely the place to stay. For the price and the atmosphere this is like no other. You are a short ride to Friar's Bay. and Happy Bay to the right and Grand Case to the left. The view of Grand Case, from the patio is breath taking!!! Rooms are nice and clean. TV and AC and free WIFI make relaxing comfortable. Definately will visit and stay again.

The proprietress is friendly, fun, and makes an effort for her guests to know each other since she treats them as guests in her home. She is also bilingual so if you don't speak French, and need to rely on English, no problem. I loved staying here and would recommend it for others.
