My company always uses Hilton Hotel in Port of Spain to host its guests so I was placed there, even though the function I traveled for was at a different hotel, plus it's closer to our office.

I've stayed at Hilton several times and generally have little to no issues. This time the main issue I had is that on the Sunday morning the line for breakfast was extremely long, because the restaurant was filled to capacity and people had to be standing waiting until others finished eating and left.

I am not sure if all of these persons were hotel guests or if some were visiting for breakfast only (I was told that some people have brunch there on Sundays), but in any event, the hotel needs to plan better for this influx. While they put up signs stating the best times to come for breakfast, if you have a full occupancy (it was the weekend of the Buju and Beres concert) and are accepting outside guests for breakfast, then proper contingency procedures must be put in place.

An additional buffet line could have been set up in the neighboring restaurant and have some persons dine there. They could have also allowed for persons to take breakfast and leave, although I understand this is against company policy. Whatever contingencies they put in place, essentially something must be done.

That issue aside, I would like to give kudos to a few of the staff who were welcoming and accommodating. Shout out to Doodnath, Shaquila, and the chefs in Fresh Start(?) who warmed up my food for me on Fri night.

Bed was made up but room wasn't cleaned daily and after the 4th day, rags and towels weren't replenished. Not sure why.

Overall, I had an okay stay. But I think Hilton really needs to address that breakfast issue and also maybe reconsider the policy about people not being allowed to leave with food, as I would have happily collected my food and ate elsewhere instead of waiting for over half hour to be seated (especially when pressed for time). Fix this, Hilton!

I haven’t stayed in this hotel for the past 9 years, but decided to on my recent trip. As a Hilton Honours Member, I was interested to see if things had changed from the last time I reviewed on Trip Advisor. We arrived arrived from the airport just under an hour before check in time and told that we had to wait until 3pm if I didn’t pay for early check in. I asked if I could even though it was under an hour and they told me that they had to availability. They did offer to us to leave our luggage with them and told us that we could sit downs on the Garden deck until our room was ready, which we did. I was checked in on my Hilton App so I already knew my room number. After sitting for about 20 mins my partner has to use the washroom and as we walked past the front desk about 2:45pm they called me over and told us that we can check in.
The lobby and common areas was nicely put together and clean. There was costumes situated all over and the grounds, pool and restaurant looked very inviting. However, when it came to the room itself, I really wished I took some pictures. There was barely exact towels, no hair dryer, the walls by the toilet were dirty and looked to have boogers on it and there was something that looked like something white splashed up on the back of the the bathroom door. There was also some stains on the ironing board. And the lamp in the desk didn’t seem to work. In the end of the day we’re glad it was only a one night stay. Definitely not the Hilton experience we’re used to. Not really a fan of this hotel but stayed here because the rest of our party was.

I would preface my review by saying that without exception, the staff here are very friendly.
However, the hotel is now 63 years old and showing it's age, and some of the customer service wasn't brilliant. We arrived with the temperature 33 deg C to find that the air conditioning throughout the hotel wasn't working (this was fixed later that night). The pool jacuzzi broke down while we there and wasn't fixed. The whole hotel had no shower lotions for the bathrooms. We had to nag on three occasions to have our bedroom serviced (having waited until 5pm). This is the first time we have stayed in a Hilton where the down pillows have been awful, massive overstuffed things which gave my wife a stiff neck. They didn't appear to have any alternatives. On one morning we ordered a grab and go breakfast for 5.30 as we were going to Tobago, and it was forgotten (they did come up with a replacement within 15 mins).
If you have access to the Executive Lounge, this one is only average with a limited range of evening snacks, though breakfast was not bad. Usually, we get a free breakfast downstairs if we want it, as Platinum members, but for the first time (in the world) we were asked to pay 10$ for this.
Very limited facilities for kids: a Connect 4 game, table tennis and open air chess; no children's playground or anything, but there is a lovely tennis court. Despite the hotel being described as set in acres of landscaped gardens there is very little you can walk in, mind you, the botanical gardens and zoo are virtually next door. Outside, particularly at the back, there is evidence of rust and black mould on the walls.
The location is quiet, away from the centre of Port of Spain, and getting a taxi to go places was easy.

I don’t know where to start. This was supposed to be our anniversary trip which yes we did tell the hotel; no acknowledgment. My husband and I regularly stay in Hiltons all over the world and this hotel shouldn’t have the Hilton name.
The place is falling apart, the service is awful with the exception of 3 people. No hot water in the rooms, we spent an hour asking for the jets in the hot tub to be turned on. They kept saying someone was coming but they never did. The drinks are $18 for a single Jack and Coke; extremely over priced. We got so frustrated with the service and quality that we paid for plane tickets and another hotel in Tobago for 2 nights to get away. Our final straw was on the last morning when we noticed a large brown mark in the bottom of the pool that wasn’t there the day before. We waited for 15 min for the manager to come down to assess it. You would think they would close the pool to assess and then clean the mark (he claimed it was back up from the pool drain so basically sewage in the pool) but nope; they left it open. Over an hour later and still no one has cleaned it. I actually don’t think I’ve seen anyone clean the pool a single time.

The manager claimed he was going to come back to us with a solution to all of our issues over the week; it’s been 3 hours and he’s MIA so clearly that isn’t happening.

The place may look nice on the website but trust me, it isn’t how it looks. Things are broken, the pool has mold developing on the stairs from lack of cleaning and the rooms smell of mildew.

Total waste of thousands of dollars which again is so upsetting as it was our anniversary trip. I really wish I could think of a single positive thing to say because my husband and I generally make the best of any situation as nowhere is perfect but this was beyond bad. Hilton corporate needs to do a site check here immediately.

Response from Hilton Trinidad, Owner at Hilton Trinidad & Conference Centre
Responded Oct 7, 2024
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are truly sorry that your stay, especially during such a special occasion as your anniversary, did not meet your expectations. We strive to provide a memorable experience for all our guests, and it’s disappointing to hear that we fell short during your visit. We would like to clarify a few points you raised. Our pool is cleaned daily by a certified third-party company, and the mark in question was a structural discoloration at the bottom of the pool, not sewage as mentioned. We understand your concerns and regret that this affected your experience. Our management team was available to further discuss and resolve the issues, but we respect your decision to check out early. Once again, we apologize that we did not meet your expectations, and we appreciate your feedback, as it helps us improve our service. Should you wish to discuss this further, we welcome the opportunity to speak with you directly.

I stayed at this hotel on my visit to Trinidad for 7 days. I booked it through Expedia and I got a great package deal combo with my flight. While I have visited the island before it was my first time staying at the hotel. My family is from the island so I often stay with them, but due to COVID we felt it would be better to stay in a hotel. First of all, there were several COVID protocols in place and I felt it was rightly justified considering we are still in a pandemic and this is a small island. Masks were worn in all areas, except when sitting down to eat or when by the pool. All bags were sanitized upon entry and every staff member greeted us with a smile. I was given a great beautiful room with the balcony overlooking Queens Hall and the city. The views of Port of Spain from the Sky Deck are phenomenal. Upon arrival we were greeted with warm smiles from very friendly faces and this was mostly the tone from all staff for the duration of our stay. I felt very safe, even left all my valuables out in my room and always came back to find everything exactly where I left it - even with daily turndown services. Here are some takeaways …the breakfast is tasty but overpriced- I would eat in the city for a fraction of the price. You will need a car to get around because it’s a bit of a distance to walk to most locations. There is a walkway to Queens Park and it felt safe, but taxing on your body as it’s hot outside with a mask on and the hill is steep- not sure about night. For the pool, you are not allowed to bring outside guests, but you can go to the restaurants. The hotel restaurants didn’t accept any cash (due to COVID I presume) and were east to book. As I stayed for 7 days I went to a local supermarket to get food, snacks and drinks I could keep in my room. Our room had a microwave. I like that the hotel was very chill, felt sorta empty as there hardly saw any other guests and was often times all alone in the pool. I would highly recommend staying here and I would again in the future. I had a great experience overall.

The pool area is amazing. Kids will love it!. There is always a buzz in the lobby area and the breakfast is great with many options. Great staff. Occassionally you may get one of the older rooms but ample parking, great service and the view can make up for it. Keep in mind its a large property so keep in that in mind if traveling with elderly or anyone who walking a while presents a challenge.

We checked into the hotel on Tuesday and stayed for a few days and check out on Friday. When we checked it it was the day it was flooding in POS. First impressions: there were blankets on the floors where customers had to walk, apparently certain areas were flooded. We were supposed to have adjoining rooms as I booked 2 for my family and I. We checked in and got one room that was ready and had to wait on the other room to be ready. Room 821 was old moldy and musty smelling…. The room looked old. I called as my daughter and nephew have asthma and my daughter has allergic asthma I explained to them if we were not moved, she could get a really bad asthmatic attack. The front desk Cheryl told us she would have us moved right away it took 45 mins to hear back from the front desk, in which they stated that they were going to move us to room 357 and 359 but only 357 was available right now so we got a bell hop and moved to 357, when the bell hop came up we had him come into the room in which he could smell what we were smelling and he said some rooms smelt worse than some. We got to 357 and the room was OK nothing fabulous but stayable and smelt ok….. 359 however the adjoining room smelt terrible where my mom and sisters acquired a cough and chest pains I then walked to the front desk and called them as well multiple times to complain they brought up Lysol and sprayed and the smell was still there. The problem was that there was no manager and no one was working hard enough to fix the problem. At 745 pm the front desk sent up a bell hop to walk us to a few rooms to see if they smelt and after walking up and down to multiple floors not being able to rest or relax or enjoy and checking for smells as if we were housekeeping we got a room that smelt ok enough to sleep without having breathing problems or an asthmatic attack. Our family fun was then spoilt and interrupted because we were split on two separate floors from each other. We no longer had the convenience or comfort we paid for.
We then had issues with the TV where we couldn’t watch cable because our television had an error where the IT guy had to come reset it twice.
The phone in my room did not work to call out.
They moved my mom and sisters room but never locked back the adjoining doors and we could not lock them as they had a special key 🔑 so my safety was at risk if they checked anyone to that room. Then to top it off on the last day someone stole the mirror out the side mirrors of my sister’s KIA vehicle and Hilton did not rectify the issue and basically said it wasn’t their responsibility.
Overall it was not a good experience.
Manager Ramanarine or Ramada I spoke with about getting proper compensation for the rooms and she gave me 4 breakfast vouchers which is not a way to fix that issue and I just feel that Hilton is a well know establishment that is bringing down the rating of Hilton and for me to ever come back there
I am looking for someone to stop passing the buck and address these import and very concerning issues.

I read the hotel reviews before leaving on the trip and was not sure what to expect at the hotel. My experience, staying there with my sister, was excellent. The hotel is also a conference center and hence is quite large. It has a lovely setting on a hill with excellent views from many places within the hotel (including our room). It is a setting that is hard to walk from but with some security concerns in Trinidad at present, that was not a drawback - we arranged visits with the taxi driver that took us to the hotel from the airport (arranged very efficiently and well by the hotel) and it was an excellent base for some local visits.
Yes, the hotel does need a facelift in some aspects but it is still a very nice hotel and most of the restaurants and bars are comfortable and stylish. We were told that the hotel was going to have a major renovation after carnival (in Feb 2025) so probably comments about decor will be out of date soon.
We did find that the service could be very slow in some of the restaurant/bar areas but this was due to very low staffing levels rather than any inattention from the staff that were working. We found them to be friendly and helpful. We were there just before carnival started and so some staff may have had time off in anticipation. On the other hand, the cocktails and the view were great and it was not a problem to wait a little.

If you don't want to be stranded on the day of arrival in a foreign country.... Do not book this hotel! Even as a Hilton Honors member. This day of arrival this hotel cancelled our booking. We arrived to the hotel to find out our room was cancelled and I was told they called and emailed me. This was an absolute lie and there was absolutely no emails, calls or even a voicemails. Just the frequent emails reminding me about the booking and the checkin early email. It sounds like they overbooked rooms and said they had absolutely nothing available. While waiting at front desk while she is trying to do research on what happened I look through my emails for these supposed emails, there is ONE email from Hilton an hour prior to our arrival at the hotel, while we were probably mid air or landing and on our way that says the room has been cancelled. Then they come back and say at front desk it had to do with a policy of events that were going on around that time that requires pre-payment. Why would I be able to book a room with this policy,? why is this not stated anywhere on the Hilton website?. Why was I notified of this an hour before checkin while in flight landing and heading to the hotel in a foreign country with no service???.

This was an extremely dangerous and terrifying situation two women were put in while in a foreign country. Absolutely false reasons given and was proven by the fact they I continued to receive hilton honors emails and hilton email about checking in early. After realizing how unhelpful and flustered the front desk was and how they said they had absolutely NO rooms at the hotel, I immediately called the corporate line and after an hour on the phone was told he sees the mistake and was sorry this happened, and understood our situation but there was no other hiltons close by, just one that was over 30 miles away and sold out. He said they will cover the cost of the night at the hotel that we find. We wasted money and time taking a taxi to the airport and it took us another 6 hours to have to research and find another hotel an settle in, not to mention the wasted money, over $400 for tickets for an event we were supposed to attend and couldn't because we had no place to stay. So more money wasted on another taxi, as well as a completely wasted day and time having to figure all of this out in a foreign country. It was exhausting and terrifying.

After calling corporate upon my return to send receipts for the hotel stays and costs associated with our inconvenience, I was told it would be escalated just as the initial operator told me they would so that they can reimburse costs beyond the first night. I get an email stating the same BS the front desk said and to call them directly and sort it out with them. This has been an absolute nightmare of an experience with Hilton. I will never book or stay at another Hilton and made it know to many others how dangerous of a situation we were put in. Please do not stay here if you value your time, money, an safety. Also if think you can have confidence booking a room online even with a confirmation or having a hilton honors, you don't have that either.

To start with your security and porters need to be better trained and selected that started our unpleasant experience. Security could not and did not give clear information and directions. The Porter there at that time was more interested in telling me where I cannot park, never even volunteered to help or take the luggage. The Club lounge left a lot to be desired. The food was not up to standard, just a few items, I got sick from eating the white flour because there wasn't much options. Then for breakfast they placed smoke herring and pork bacon in the same receptacle. We are Muslim, so we could not take any of an already very limited food options. Kudos to Doodnath at the Club and Michael at the pool, who did their best and were excellent in customer service.
