Great location!! Beds are comfy. Pool and beach are very nice. Short drive to Christiansted. Restaurant within walking distance, the St Croix club, was great. Food was good and you have a view of the oven.
Soft breezes kept us cool enough the we never needed the air conditioning.

I stayed at Colony Cove for the second time this year. This time, we were in one of the end buildings with a terrific view of the sea and a view of the city of Christiansted across the bay. You should see it at night with a full moon reflecting across the water - just awesome. The property was well-maintained and everyone was just very nice. The unit was certainly big enough for two couples (we also split expenses, making it really reasonable).

The housekeeping staff has Sundays off - not a big deal for me, but it's good to know ahead of time. My wife called Housekeeping once - to request some tissues. They were delivered to our room promptly and cheerfully. Every time we saw the staff, they were friendly and cheerful.

The unit that I stayed in was completely stocked with everything one could need (even a small cooler - how thoughtful). We could have bought groceries and cooked all week, but my wife wasn't interested in that. We ended up sampling the island's restaurants and enjoying the heck out of ourselves. Enjoying a leisurely dinner at the Brew Pub in Christiansted, eating outside on the boardwalk as the sun went down and enjoying live music later from the same chair?? What could be better than that?

We were at Colony Cove in June, and the experience was much the same. One difference this trip is that instead of diving with a dive operator (and there are some really good ones), we did some shore diving. You can find a list of sites at shore diving dot com. Every place we went we met friendly and helpful people. We dove the Frederiksted pier twice. As we went to return the tanks that we had rented the day before (for $8/each), we found that another fill was only $5. It was the best $5 dive that I ever made. I also enjoyed snorkeling off the Colony Cove beach. It's a bit of a swim, but there's a reef (you can see the waves breaking on it) about 100yds offshore. There's a small wall to the west at edge of the reef where you can find all sorts of neat critters. We saw some Moray eels, a small porcupine fish, a larger balloon fish hiding under a ledge, all sorts of neat reef life and we even saw a big ray skiming along the sandy bottom as we we working our way back to the beach. Here's a tip - wear your wetsuit, you'll be out there much longer than you were planning and the suit will help you avoid sunburn.

All in all, we had a great time, and would recommend Colony Cove to anyone. I liked it so much, we've made an offer on one of the units.

Colony Cove is located a short distance west of the lovely port city of Christiansted. We have stayed in 3 separate condos there during 2006. The units have 2BRs, 2BAs, fully equipped kitchens, queen-size sleeper sofas in the LR, and basic cable television. Furnishings vary depending upon the care of the private condo owners; two units were quite nice (especially C204), the other just acceptable. Each condo has a large, enclosed, furnished patio or balcony, perfect for relaxing and hanging dive gear. The condos surround a small pool, which stands 10 paces from the beach. Most units (but not all) have some ocean view. There are three somewhat larger resorts adjacent to Colony Cove, so your kids should find playmates.

The property is well run by Antilles Resorts. Michelle at the front desk is very competent. Beach towels are readily available at the office. The cleaning crew do a superb job of eliminating every speck of sand from the units. There is excellent security 24/7, which is important in St. Croix. Despite some ads to the contrary, there are no internet connections at Colony Cove. The owners would do well to remedy this. The only public internet café is in Christiansted and it closes early.

There is moderately interesting snorkeling off shore just 50 feet or so to the west of the resort, where a bunch of truck tires have been dumped in the ocean to serve as a home for coral growth and tropical fish. Better swimmers and kayakers can walk down the beach further west and swim out a quarter-mile or so to the impressive reef that parallels the north shore of the island. Those wanting a top-class snorkeling experience without the long swim should visit the Buccaneer resort ($4 per visit) and snorkel off of its westernmost beach – this is only 6-7 miles away. We got great service from “Captain Carl” for deep-sea fishing, and the Cane Bay Dive Shop for scuba.

There is a large supermarket (Pueblo) just 2 minutes’ drive from Colony Cove. All standard U.S. toiletries and foods are readily available and do not sell for the exorbitant prices one often finds in the Caribbean. (A car is a must in St. Croix. Reserve ahead from Olympic car rental for the best deal – their office is a short distance from Colony Cove and they’ll pick you up at the airport and return you there for nothing).

Christiansted itself is a joy. If you want to hide, there are some nice resorts elsewhere on St. Croix, especially in the Salt River-to-Davis Bay area, but I would never wander that far from Christiansted. The harbor is picture perfect. It is too shallow for cruise ships, so there are no hordes of visitors, and commercialization is limited. The shops here sell beautiful handcrafted items, and the restaurants are excellent by any standard – try Kendrick’s or Tutto Bene. There is a large, free public parking lot in Christiansted. It is 5 minutes’ drive from Colony Cove.

One plus about Colony Cove is that there is a pleasant, open-air restaurant practically on the property (Smuggler’s Cove) with very good pizza and sinus-numbing pina coladas, and another called Breezez with fine food is just 150 yards or so to the east of the resort.

The main drawback to Colony Cove is the lack of air conditioning in the living-dining-kitchen area of the units. Each BR has a window air conditioner, but the single ceiling fan in the large living area does not always suffice to make one completely comfortable, especially in the somewhat hotter summer months. The fans themselves are aged and do not run properly at top speed, though the ocean breeze does limit the discomfort.

Overall, this is a well-situated, well-managed, roomy, and relaxing place to stay, and its prices are among the most reasonable on the island. We keep returning there because we like it.

BUYER BEWARE!!!! Our first impression of Colony Cove (or antilles resorts, as they are officially called) was that it was surrounded by barb-wire fences. (That can’t be good, right?) Then, as soon as we checked in at 4pm, the “Front desk” closed until 9am on the next day.
First, we discovered long gross hairs all over the bathrooms and on our sheets. Oh, and USED condom wrappers by the bed. So disgusting. Then, we found thousands of ants in both bathrooms and kitchen.
After that, we realized that there were no toiletries. NONE, just hand soap. The website says they have that included. When we went to the front desk (around 250yds from the room) they were gone for the day, so no shower! On the next day, they bought a “2 in 1 shower gel” bottle. That was it.
We also discovered that there was no wifi, although they also claimed that it was included in the room. They said they would take care of it right away, but they NEVER did. 4 days later: nothing.
The hotel beach is covered with gross and smelly seaweed. Don’t even bother!
Walking around that neighborhood is also a suicide mission. There’s a slum merely a block away, and there are no sidewalks. And we not prissy, we come from a third world country: this was worse!!!
But…The worst part of our stay, was when after spending the entire day at the beach, we came back to our room doors (Oh, yeah. There are 2 of them!) WIDE OPEN! And I don’t mean unlocked. I mean o-p-e-n! Of course we called “Security” (An 75+ old guy who needed my help to climb the stairs). Anyway, nothing was missing, looks like the maid forgot to close the doors when she cleaned the room in the morning. Still, quite scary.

After complaining to the management about all of these issues, they said that they would issue a refund and would charge us only one night, but two hours later, when they knew we were at the airport, they charged the whole amount! We are still negotiating with Booking.com to see if they will issue the refund, but the most amazing fact, is that they DENY EVERYTHING!!!! Seriously, do not go there, EVER. Unless you like to be in an awful place, with awful security, and people that lie about EVERYTHING. Good luck. Email me directly if you want ideas on where to stay, we found a few good places there.

My fiance, I and two friends just returned from a week long stay and loved every minute! I was a little worried after reading some of the earlier reviews, but we found the resort to be clean, safe and well maintained! The kitchens were well stocked, the furnishings well kept and the decks were large and provided wonderful views (even if you're not in the first building!). The beach was a little disappointing (alot of seaweed), but it encourages you to get out and explore some of the many other beautiful beaches on the island (and there are many!). The location of the condo is convienent to getting anywhere on the island in a short amount of time and is within walking distance of two restaurants and a grocery store. We had a wonderful time and would definitely stay there again!

This complex was very well maintained and very clean. the staff was more than accommodating and friendly. the location was perfect - right near Christiansted [downtown] about 10 minutes and right on the beach for a more quiet atmosphere - I would DEFINITELY return.
I particularly liked having a full kitchen and spacious living when we were in the villa - all the conveniences of home. - a must try if you haven't been to St. Croix.

My family an I just returned from our 10 day stay @ Colony Cove; it is a wonderful place. The staff was helpful, the room was very spacious (five people - 2 in each bedroom and 1 on the pull-out couch), the beach was raked every morning (sea weed), and the food was wonderful. We will be back.

Just got back from Colony Cove on Thur the 9th. I'll start with the good points then the bad.

Good points, ok, good location of the hotel. Even though the beach is not the greatest for swimming, it's great for just sitting out in the sun and looking out into the ocean. The location from the downtown is not too bad, about a 5 minute or so drive.
There are some really good places to eat too, and some not so good places. We'd suggest getting some of the brochures they have all over and also asking some of the locals.

The bad, well, the room we had was on the beach, but it was hot as heck in there even with the fan in the sitting area going full speed. There is a window AC unit in each bedroom that keeps the bedrooms and bathrooms cool, but the sitting area and kitchen just stay too hot to even enjoy. The place was rather dirty too, the tile floors were really nasty and your feet stayed black if you did not have shoes on. We wanted to use the pool over the weekend but it was full of leaves and cloudy, so we skipped that. On Monday they did come out and clean it. Checking in was really slow, we were the only ones checking in and it still took almost 30 minutes to do. We asked that the phone be turned on so we could use it and they forgot to turn it on.

All in all it was not a bad spot but not a good one either. St Croix is a nice place to visit for a very relaxing vacation, but if you really crave the nightlife and party action, this is not the place to go. If you like to snorkle and dive, by all means visit here as they have some great spots for that.

Some places to visit are Cane Bay Beach, Point Udall, The Cruzan Rum Factory. The Pub in town has some really good beers and good tuna wraps. For dinner try Duggans Reef and Cultured Pelican, very good spots. We took Big Beard's to Buck Island and had a lot of fun on the trip. Never felt like we were in danger there as far as crime goes, even though we saw a lot of shady looking folks, no one ever gave us a hard time or harassed us.

My friends and I stayed at Colony Cove late June through early July and enjoyed every bit of it. So much so that one of my friends made an offer on one of the units. We enjoyed all of the ammenites the complex had to offer. The pool was in good, clean condition. There is an outside freshwater faucet in the pool area to rinse you sandy feet off in after you leave the beach. The beach is nice but there is lots of seagrass, but if you swim alittle bit farther out the grass ends and its just open blue water with a nice white sandy bottom. There are tires planted in the sand which attracts loads of fish which is fun to watch..There is a reef about 2 or 300 yards out. it can be reached by swimming but i reccommed you take a raft or life reseve to rest on. or if you dont swim take a kayack and you can reach it in no time. The units themselves were decorated tastefully and were a pleasure to stay in. They were clean and the maids kept them clean throughout our stay, which was very nice. Although they only have A/C in the bedrooms, if you leave the windows open its not too bad.. The landscaping was beautiful, the entire complex is decorated with all sorts of exotic looking palms and flowers...

The location of the comples is also very nice. There are 2 resturants on either side of the complex, and there is a grocery store down the road. But be careful walking along side the road because cars travel opposite of what they do in the states! Also Colony Cove is probably a 5-6 min, maybe even less ride from downtown christiansted, which is not badd at all.

All in all, i would reccommend Colony Cove to everybody who is coming to visit beautiful St.Croix. You will not be dissapointed!

From the pictures you can see the sea grass and then where it ends... its not badd at all

We had a wonderful vacation at the Colony Cove this February. Our accomodations were spacious and comfortable. We had a spectacular view of the ocean, pool, and the gardens. This is not a fancy island, but one of the most relaxing and fun vacations we"ve had. Oh, it's not as luxurious some of our previous vacations ie. Bermuda, Carribbean cruise, high end hotel in San Marco, but this was authentic Carribbean. We traveled with our two children, aged 11 and 12. We snorkelled every day right from our beach and on an excursion to Buck island. (a must do).
