Tripadvisor gives a Travellers’ Choice award to accommodations, attractions and restaurants that consistently earn great reviews from travellers and are ranked within the top 10% of properties on Tripadvisor.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
Stayed at Humes on February 17 and February 24, 2023 before and after a scuba dive trip with Blackbeard's. Humes is an old house converted to a hostel air-bnb. I stayed in the "Yellow Elder" private room with twin bed plus fan and shared bathroom upstairs, and "De Conch" private room with queen bed plus a/c and private bathroom downstairs. The house is old and shows its age. The "Elder" room is old but clean. The "Conch" room is quite nice. Best part of this place is O'Neil the Manager. He provides professional friendly service and keeps the place secure. Early check-in and/or bag storage is available. O'Neil can arrange or provide transport that is cheaper then others so talk to him FIRST! He even gave us a quick tour of "The Bat Cave" en-route to the airport. Humes House could improve by cleaning up its yard which is a nice place to sit and chill, but needs some work in the back area. The location is in a residential area that is only a 15 minute walk to the cruise ship area downtown. If you are in need of a 1 or 2 night short stay, I would recommend Humes House. Thanks again O'Neil!

I was a little scared by the reviews I had read around, but I still chose this place both for the low cost and the location (it's a 15 minute walk from Nassau Downtown). Indeed, many things could certainly be better (for example, as many have said, the water pressure), but for the price it has (especially on such an expensive island) you can easily turn a blind eye. I slept in the "Yellow Elder", an individual room, spartan but nice, also equipped with air conditioning. The internet worked very well, at least until a hurricane hit and everything went down. The best thing about this hostel is definitely the relaxed atmosphere.

I stayed here for 1 week waiting for a new passport. Overall the place is pretty good. The caretaker who lives in house is not the person mentioned in earlier reviews. The new guy is pretty strict about house rules but I can see why.
There are some house rules that people seem to struggle with namely the no shoes inside. I can see why because the house would fill up with sand pretty quick if you did..
Check out time is 11am. You can hang around after you check out but you must be out of the dorm. This was also a problem for some people
Also there is no check in desk so check in is via a QR code at the front of the house. You need to check in to get the door code for your dorm. There is free WiFi with details clearly visible. Why people complained about this I don't know.
Do these simple things and you will have a fun stay.

I stayed in the flamingo room where there was air con available, and the common areas were cleaned daily. It’s not a 5* resort but for the price and what I needed as a solo traveller it was more than enough! Also an option for very convenient transport to and from the airport, car hire and swimming pig excursion.

Stay away from this creepy hole! The room and bathroom was dirty. Plenty of cockroaches outside. I ran away from there right after I saw the conditions. I didn’t expect anything fancy but this messy hole is below any standard. The rule of leaving shoes outside is ridiculous like the price for this standard. The staff is rude and disrespectful especially the guy that is living there . When I submit my claim they accused me of lying and lied to booking that I stayed there more than was in reality.

The room was neat and clean, very homey feeling. The two friends I was with and I got acquainted fairly quickly with the other members of the house as well as the host O'Neil. O'Neil knew all the best places to go for whatever we wanted to do, and the spots with the best prices as well. One of the nights he even made us slow cooked chicken from his traditional Jamaican recipe. Overall it was a great experience in the Nassau, and the Humes House only added to that experience.

Stay away from this place. Maintenance issues, and other problems. Not worth to mention all of them. Just read other reviews which mentioned overall state of the place. Greedy and rude person. Very unpleasant to know that I paid to be cheated.

I stayed for two nights. And I absolutely loved it. Cheapest hostel in Nassau, with an extraordinary host Ed and his helping hand Tika. They welcome you like family and help you out with everything. There is always someone around. They help you out with very private things all the way to book the right tour. Beds are extremely comfy with ceiling fan and a/c if you want. They ask many times if we are comfortable with the temperature of the room or if we need anything. Very clean rooms, beds, bath and kitchen. No food allowed in the rooms, this brings you closer to the hostel family. All together on one big table. I loved it. We played cards, went shopping together and drunk as well. Ed the owner came often around in the evening with his girlfriend to play cards or to invite us to go to a local bar. To keep it simple: YOU ARE FAMILY HERE thank you for the wonderful time Jen

Do not go there The place is old and dirty no air conditioning breakfast is basic you cook yourself. Breakfast is usually toast or bagels once a week eggs. The rooms were extremely hot with dirty fan and you're in trouble if you turn on the fan, the beds have a plastic cover so you sweat. No screens on some windows and doors so you get bitten by mosquitoes. The bathtub is dirty sometimes people don't flush the toilet it's disgusting. The kitchen is very dirty and all dishes to cook with are old. The walk to downtown is about 25 minutes no sidewalks on Sears road and other streets not a very good area they call it the ghetto. They like to party loud musics till midnight or later.
