At the west end of New Providence lies an exquisite hideaway. A STONE'S THROW AWAY is perched on one of the highest elevations by the coast. Here our Guests can indulge in a rare panoramic view of Nassau 's land and sea. The scenery boasts the best of the island's natural wonders, from the native pine forest by Lake Killarney to the brim of the coral reefs that protect the glimmering beaches of west Nassau. The property was recently built to echo the traditions of an old Bahamian home: wood floors and wood ceilings, louvered shutters and a large wrap around porch bring the visitors back to a quieter time long ago when the music of the islands could be heard in the whispers of the trade winds.

We had an amazing stay here, I never experienced such lovely people at a hotel, they were truly the best. They assisted us with booking a tour to Rose Island to experience the famous swimming pigs and made sure we got the perfect deal. We could reach out to them with whatever question we had, we got the most helpful information to use the local bus, when a taxi was needed they called for us and made sure we were safe. besides those amazing people, the hotel itself is really nice, the rooms are clean, spacious and have a nice balcony. you have a small beach that you can reach 2 mins by foot but there’s a bigger one 20 mins west by foot as well. the downtown is also easy to reach with the local bus services.

The resort and employees were amazing and ensured everything went smoothly. Most beautiful and quaint resort on a small hill overlooking a gorgeous view of turquoise water. Only thing that was a dampener was that they charge a separate resort fee when we arrived there and that we didn’t like. Indian food was amazing but expensive but almost everything is expensive there. Also, there is nothing much to walk to from there but we did walk 30 mins to love beach which was amazing snorkeling spot. But be careful as the road is a bit unsafe to walk and cars dive fast in that thin road.

We needed a one night stay in Nassau between flights and we thought we would treat ourselves to staying at A Stones Throw. Sure, the location is great and the old stone and castle like setting was pretty great. But our room was rundown and smelly. It was damp and the furniture was old and tired. I felt like I was back in pirate times with a small room and a poorly equipped bathroom. The ocean view porch is huge but you share it with the room next door so it’s not private. The bathroom was really small and the shower knob fell off when turned on. No hooks to hang anything on and the itty bitty closet smelled dank. The cold breakfast the next morning was good but they only offer you paper plates and cups and plastic cutlery. For over $300US a night I want a cup of coffee in a mug, not a disposable paper cup. Brutal. I was shocked quite honestly. The view on the main deck is stunning but they need to up their game in finer services and decor to match the bill you pay. I won’t stay here again.

Stone's Throw is super close to the airport--about a 5 minute drive. (But a taxi cost the four of us $35 each way. Yikes.)
The hotel itself is charming in setting. The steps to walk up to the lobby and rooms, the pool area, and the lounge area are all cute. (There are MANY stairs and it is steep.) The view of the water once you arrive is stunning since you're at the top of a hill. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
The rooms are also cute with plenty of character, but it could use some renovation. We had to switch rooms because our first room did not have hot water or really any water pressure to speak of. It was an easy process to switch rooms; no biggie. In the new room, the dial and drain cover on the shower were broken (but still functional). There isn't privacy between the room and bathroom because they have shutters between instead of a full wall. This is probably fine for some, but if you're trying to conceal bathroom functions, it's not ideal. When we changed rooms, we got one facing the ocean with some lounge chairs and a day bed, so that was a nice place to relax in the evening.
It is a quick 5 minute walk to get down to a beach, but the hill is steep and certainly requires some cardio stamina. The location of this hotel isn't great if you're one who wants to eat at restaurants or go to a store to pick up snacks. It's about a 10 minute walk to a few restaurants in one direction (Studio Cafe is where we went and it was awesome), but the walk is a bit treacherous this way with no sidewalks and having to walk for a few minutes on a busy road. There is a coffee shop and another restaurant set to open soon in the other direction.
The bus comes every 15 minutes or so at the bottom of the hill near the beach. It's $1.50 for each ride, so this is an easy way to get to downtown (which takes about 25 minutes to get to).
Overall, I'd say we got out money's worth at Stone's Throw, but knowing what you're getting going in is important.

We have spent 4 nights here in January 2025. Cool location, serene, authentic hotel and most importantly very friendly staff. Felt just like home. It is also very close to the airport which is very cool. It has the access to the 'private' public beach just a stone's throw away from the balcony where you an chill :)

This historic hotel not only exudes charm and elegance but also offers an incredibly familiar atmosphere. From the lovingly appointed rooms to the warm welcome by the staff, I felt instantly at home. The cleanliness and quality of the rooms were top, and the staff were not only accommodating but also extremely friendly. For those seeking a charming and familiar hotel experience, I highly recommend this hotel! By the way the dinner was excellent!
Additionally, its proximity to the airport adds another layer of convenience. This historic gem is located in close proximity to the airport, making it an ideal destination for travelers seeking both comfort and convenience. A clear recommendation for anyone looking for a unique hotel that offers both historic charm and practical location!"

Avoid this hotel….services are poor. You arrive to park on the street with no hotel parking facilities. Then…you try and get someone to answer the front door but that only occurs when you finally call security. Then you get to carry your suitcases up 5 flights of stairs with no offer of help. Then you get to your room and find no water flow, initially. Finally the water comes on but no temperature regulation in the shower. The buffet breakfast is a total joke unless you’re a fan and f Fruit Loops. All for only $350/ night.

I wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible hospitality during my recent stay. Your exceptional service truly made my experience unforgettable. The gesture of upgrading my room to a wonderful ocean view was beyond generous and greatly appreciated. Thank you for creating such a memorable stay for me.
Warm regards,
Fred

A stones throw away is an amazing oasis. It’s so calm and peaceful. It’s a beautiful hotel with the best views over the ocean. It’s authentic in the gambier district. The people here are so friendly! The food is very good and there are also some great restaurants at walking distance (solemar, Aquafire, studio cafe, where once many famous artists would record). This place is a true hidden gem if you don’t want to be at Atlantis. It’s breathing the true spirit of the Bahamas. And with a quick bus/taxi ride you’re in downtown Nassau or at paradise island. Love beach is a peaceful, quiet and beautiful white beach with clear blue sea at 10 min walking distance. The hotel itself is clean, the rooms are large and pretty, balconies are lovely, and the pool is nice and not busy. The personnel is professional, friendly and helpful. We can’t recommend this place any more. We were with a 1 year old and he had the best time.

Thanks for choosing A Stone's Throw Away to spend your anniversary with us.
For all our honeymooners and anniversary guest we try our best to offer a complimentary dinner from our menu, breakfast or a bottle of wine send to the room.
Sometimes the buses runs to Nirvana beach/Love beach not very frequently, cost on the bus is $1.50 per person/per trip, proximate time driving is 5 minutes on the bus..
Another way from the hotel to Nirvana beach is walking, a nice morning or afternoon it take around 20 - 25 minutes.
Cab fare from the hotel to Nirvana beach is $10.00 one way.
Nirvana beach is a great spot for snorkeling and is one of the most beautiful beach in Nassau.
On the beach you can rent snorkeling gears, beach umbrella and beach chairs, and another good thing about visiting Nirvana beach there is a snack restaurant and a bar for any type of beverages.
Cheers.
Due to the layout changes made at Nassau's International Airport we no longer provide a shuttle service to/from the Airport.
Once you exit the arrival area at Nassau's International Airport, you will note the taxi stand. Have one of the friendly taxi drivers transfer you to our Hotel. The trip is 5-7 minutes from the Airport to the Hotel. The current cost is approximately $15.00 - $18.00 per trip (dependent upon luggage and number of guests).
Reminder to advise the Hotel of your arrival details so that we may greet you at the Hotel's entrance gate and assist with luggage to the Reception area (2nd floor) and then onto your room.
We look forward to you visiting our property.
BEACHES:
There are lots of options for beaches.
Just 5 minutes away from the Hotel is a public beach. There are parts that are quite rocky and further along you can find nice sandy areas to relax or swim.
Love Beach or Nirvana Beach: is a private beach that can be accessed if you are a guest of ASTA. This is a 20 minute walk from the Hotel. Here you can rent loungers, purchase cool drinks and cocktails to relax along this pristine stretch of beach.
If you are already heading into the 'downtown/bay street' area - you will pass either Goodman's Bay beach; Saunders beach or Arawak Cay beach.
Please do not hesitate to ask our Front Desk staff to assist with making a selection that fits your vacation needs.
There are more places to choose from in the Nassau area.
