I found the currents very strong and rough on paradise Island. Cable beach ocean seemed more calm. I'm sure it would depend on what time of year your going as well, my last trip was Dec 2016. There are other options for snorkelling. We too a tour on a boat for snorkelling and went to the coral reef area. It was amazing and we snorkelled for around an hour. I would suggest looking into tour operators from your hotel. We used Flying Cloud and were happy with them.
