Located off the northeast coast of Andros, and accessible only by private ferry or seaplane, the secluded family-owned Bahamian island of Kamalame Cay caters to a comfortable group of guests at any given time. Idyllic and isolated, this oasis of breathtaking natural beauty wraps ocean adventure and island romance in the luxury of a private island experience.A quick flight from major hubs such as New York, Toronto and Miami, yet worlds away from Nassau’s trendy, resort-lined beaches, Kamalame’s utterly private accommodations are tucked into 96-acres of swaying palms and flowering tropical foliage. A lush oasis ringed by three miles of deserted, white-sand beach and colourful coral gardens, the warm, turquoise waters just off shore teem with manta ray, parrotfish and blue tangs.Kamalame Cay is an idyllic escape for those whose idea of paradise is a tropical hideaway where a sarong is all that’s required to be ‘dressed’ for dinner.Modern interpretations of classic Bahamian cuisine combined with sophisticated wines and spirits, comfortable elegant island décor, and one of the only overwater spas in the Caribbean underscore Kamalame’s gracious 'barefoot chic’ character.Traced by white sand pathways, the island’s beautifully landscaped jungle of sea grapes, palms and coco plums is banked by pristine mangrove fields and a pristine coast scattered with conch shells and starfish; the wide variety of birdlife ranges from sandpipers, herons and cranes to finches, pink ibis and pelicans.Sliced into the Silver Palms that embrace the island, the Great House serves as a welcoming social hub for dining and cocktails and is just a few steps from the heated, freshwater pool, sweeping ocean views and al fresco beach bar. With myriad diversions – from spa programs to world-class diving, snorkelling, fishing and sporting excursions – Kamalame takes pleasure in tailoring every guest’s experience to individual tastes.

Kamalame Cay enchants guests with its unique charm and stunning views, though areas of it could benefit from more attention. While the hotel's secluded location is a draw for those seeking tranquility, it has led to challenges with staffing and dining. Guests have called out the pristine beaches, but some feel the hotel's offerings, including the rooms, do not justify the premium prices, citing maintenance and service inconsistencies. Despite the natural beauty and friendly staff, the value proposition has been a point of contention for many travelers.

Me and my wife just returned from Kamalame Cay. If you are looking for a spectacular place to tune out the world, this is your place. The island is absolutely gorgeous with several miles of pristine beach water as clear as you could ask for. The staff is very friendly and attentive, whether the servers, housekeeping, or the concierge staff. The food is delicious with fresh fish being a real highlight. As there is only one restaurant for breakfast and dinner and one restaurant for lunch, you can run out of things that you like if you stay for a week like we did. They do alter the menu occasionally and they do have specials every night. The bungalow's are specious and comfortable and are located steps from the beach. They could use better water pressure with the showers but overall the rooms were great. There are activities available on the resort for scuba, fishing, kayaking, and more but we just chilled the entire time. Each bungalow gets a golf cart to travel to and from meals and the pool which is nice. I would definitely return to Kamalame Cay the next time I wanted to unplug from this crazy world!

Our first time at this jewel was unforgettable. We stayed in a beach cottage at the north end of the cay and loved being so secluded. The restaurants, etc were only a short 8 min golf cart ride away. The food was incredible and imaginative- there was a great selection of fresh vegetables, salads and entrees (pork, vegetarian, chicken, beef, variety of shellfish and fish) for lunch and dinner. We never made it to breakfast and just noshed on coffee and the breakfast basket that came daily with fruit and pastries. The food wasn’t swimming in sauce, butter and olive oil as is typical when dining out at a resort. It was perfectly seasoned. My husband and I never had to wait for a table for lunch or dinner. Service was quick and attentive. Bartender made the BEST spicy skinny margarita on the rocks! The bungalow was impeccably decorated with thoughtful curation of glamorous coffee table and other books and games.(Scrabble and backgammon) The mini kitchen area was well stocked with a Nespresso machine, wine, liquor and a fridge full of mixers and bottled water. The fridge was big enough to hold our ice bucket, a bag of ice and 2 entree chicken Cobb salads that we ordered after lunch one day to have for dinner (so that we could spend that afternoon/early evening lounging and eating in). The daily cookie delivery was a highlight. Details like white fringed beach towels for the beach chaises, in-room bottle of bug spray, and fantastic toiletries made life easy and enjoyable. Bikes, paddle boards (we enjoyed a 2 hour self guided tour one day) and kayaks are readily available, gratis. The cocktail party at Michael & David’s chic beach house (our neighbors!) was swank with fab drinks and food. Don’t miss it! They were very inviting, super personable, and truly gracious hosts for the gaggle of strangers that descended upon their abode. Two staff standouts were Keith and Allison. Keith may be the unofficial mayor of Kamalame (according to me). He had a creative solve and answer for everything and I loved meeting him. I had a 90 minute massage with Allison (overlooking the ocean). Best massage I’ve ever had. She is gifted and my shoulders are finally in the correct place after her magic. Overall, everything in this place was lovingly curated and infused with meaning and flair. We are already planning a return trip next summer. XOXO

We spent 4 glorious nights at this unique and beautiful resort on Android Island. The entire staff was very warm and friendly and provided great service throughout our stay. Our cottage, the Sandpiper was very spacious and nicely decorated with an impressive ocean / beach view. Our bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. With no TV in the rooms, the only sound you hear is of the ocean waves. What a pleasant way to fall asleep and wake up. No matter what cottage you stay in, you pretty much guaranteed to have a slice of private beach to yourself..and what a beautiful beach it is. We purchased the all-inclusive package and ate all our meals at the resort. I highly recommend doing as food and drinks are VERY expensive. I’m not even a big drinker, yet the package was still well worth it. With regard to the food, every meal I had, weather it was breakfast, lunch or dinner was amazing and of very good quality. All guests are given a golf cart to use for the duration of the stat. Driving around in the golf carts to access different parts of the rest was fun and really added to the uniqueness of the resort. Receiving a service at the overwater spa is also a must, if anything just to admire the spectacular ocean views from the spa. I had the 15 minute foot ritual and it was divine! The only negative comments I have is that there is no wifi in the rooms. The only place to get wifi is the main house, The Pineapple house. But given that we were only there 4 days, not having wifi was not a big issue. The other negative is that the only affordable way to get to the resort is via Titan Air and Le Air, that only shuttles passengers twice a day… around 7:9 am and 4:99 on. The other options…private planer and private boat ride are outrageously expensive. Overall, I absolutely loved this resort and highly recommend staying here for a Caribbean experience unlike any other.

We stayed at Kamalame Cay for a week with a large group. Our stay was relatively nice but we had some issues and challenges that are not to be expected with a hotel rated as high as this one.

Pros - very friendly people, beautiful location, nice accommodations, and great food.

Cons - golf carts are needed for every day moving around. They are old and undependable and should have been retired and replaced 5 years ago - we got stranded when our battery went dead and had to trade our cart out 3 times to get one the worked The cottage we stayed in was in good shape albeit with a small bathroom and doors that were hard to open and close. The housekeeping was ok. We were told we would get homemade cookies every day and received them 2 of the 6 days. The coffee maker didnt work and had to be switched out for a 10 year old model that wasn’t much better. We arranged a 60 minute couples massage that lasted 45 minutes and felt like a drive thru car wash. They have a nice tiki beach bar that closes everyday at 5:00, which is about the time you want to start enjoying happy hour. The island runs on island time meaning most things take longer and get started later than anticipated. They have a concierge that works via WhatsApp but the responses are delayed and sometimes non existent. Eating at one restaurant for breakfast and dinner for a week with no menu changes turned into a chore after 3 or 4 days.

Bottom line - very beautiful resort on a beautiful cay but if you are expecting 4 star services and amenities you will be disappointed. We didn’t think the juice was worth the squeeze

This could be a lovely resort. The resort is beautiful and the staff were all very nice. We have been to some incredible resorts throughout the Carribean and around the world with incredible customer service, attention to detail, and amazing foods and we were disappointed as a resort that was billed as the number one resort in the Bahamas this resort lacked a 5 star factor. The room's door was broken so that it did not shut and when it rained the cleaning staff just put towels down in front of the door to catch the water. I called on the first day to tell them that the shower was broken and we either got freezing cold or scalding hot but no mix could they send someone to fix it. I asked again the next day and then we gave up. The resort was not full at all and so there would have even been other bungalows we could have been moved to. There is a coffee maker in the room but no cream, sugar, or spoons. Again I politely asked for two days if we could get some cream and sugar and we finally got some although were charged $12 for it on our bill. The continental breakfasts were terrible. A cheap Hampton Inn on the side of the highway offers a better continental breakfast . It was a plate of melon, pastries, sometimes one yogurt for two people. No tropical fruits and nothing special. WE loved the beautiful beach and took long walks. As soon as you pass the last house the beach is strewn with garbage. This is their island and every two weeks they could send someone up to the North beach to clean the garbage. The dinner menu remained the same for the full seven days. The fish was always fresh and delicious but the rest of the entrees were not up to the level they should have been. The staff for diving and snorkeling were wonderful, so helpful, and charming. They made sure to do there best with difficult weather to get us a snorkeling trip and the snorkeling was amazing.

Reading the incredibly positive reviews from others about Kamalame Cay resort on Trip Advisor makes me wonder if we somehow accidentally got on another island and resort. First off, we travel extensively and my wife travels globally and has stayed in some spectacular places, so please understand we are not unseasoned when it comes being qualified to post a travel review. We arrived on Andros and the taxi that was supposed to be awaiting us was not there. We were fortunate to meet taxi driver Christine, who would remain our driver for the remainder of our stay. Upon arriving at the ferry dock, Christine had to call the front desk twice before we were able to get anyone to answer and send the ferry. Upon checking in we met concierge Dave who despite being friendly and trying to get us situated, was rattled by another issue or matter which had his focus elsewhere. We then discovered the person we had been dealing with online and on the phone to make our reservations and excursion planning was actually stationed in Jamaica. The bungalow was quaint and mostly adequate but needed TLC as the rug, sofa and curtains were stained. The food service was slow and expensive - typical “island time” attitude. We have stayed in some wonderful places where the food and drink quality and level of service are superb. This is not one of those places. For total transparency and to make sure we weren’t off base with our assessment we asked several other families and couples staying on property about their experience and all gave varying degrees of assessments leaning toward overhyped and overpriced. Again, if you are going to bill yourself as an amazing place to stay you shouldn’t be anywhere close to so-so on the scale of meeting/exceeding expectations. Mother Nature prevented us from snorkeling or diving but that is not the fault of the resort staff. What is their fault was the inability to confirm our spa services. For two days we asked for confirmation and went to the spa twice to see if anyone could assist. Both times the spa was absent of service assistance. The front desk told us our spa appointments “should” be good to go but we wouldn’t know for sure until we showed up. The staff are mostly friendly but there is definitely a breakdown in communication and understanding responsibility by some. The grounds are very beautiful and the beach was just okay as seaweed was an issue - again, out of the control of the resort. All in all, be prepared to spend a lot for a mediocre stay at best. Again, we aren’t some snooty, pretentious guests. We’ve stayed everywhere from the Best Western to the Four Seasons and beyond, but when you’re spending thousands of dollars you shouldn’t have to settle. And more so, you shouldn’t be looking forward to the end of your vacation and getting back home.

I would highly recommend being very careful in booking with this resort. While very beautiful and a great remote getaway, it is so poorly managed, I'm afraid they will go out of business soon. We booked the resort with the full level of food and drink all inclusive. On the first night of being there, we ran the bar out of the higher end bourbons that had in stock (only 2 drinks - only 3 bourbons to choose from). It was on day 7 that I was able to get a Pina Colada as they were out of the ingredients the entire week. When we checked out, our bill included over $800 of drinks that were covered on our plan and had to be removed. The swimming pool was only cleaned 1 day and could have used it daily. We sat around the pool with other couples who shared similar experiences. We booked a 100 minute duo massage that only went for 40 minutes and didn't include a foot bath or champagne as listed on their website. Buyer beware.
Highlights of the trip were the wait staff and bartenders. We also had a great experience on a scuba dive with their staff. The dive itself was less than what can be seen in so many other places. The 3rd largest barrier reef does not make it beautiful. Might consider skipping this as a dive site.
The menu didn't change all week so it was very hard to get very much variety. For such a highly regarded resort, it should have some nightly specials (fish anyone?).
I can easily say that I would not go back to this resort.

This was a paradise turned nightmare scenario. We had to beg to get wifi and after the sixth attempt, refused to leave the office until they gave us wifi. They overcharged us and annihilated our bill, then refused to provide an itemized receipt for any of the mysterious charges. The staff acted inconvenienced if you contacted them for anything at all such as ORDERING FOOD. You had to make an ordeal if you wanted to get anything at all done. There were multiple days we were starved for hours and the pool bar which initially claimed to be open at all daylight hours told us "kitchen closed." I just feel fortunate nothing exceptionally dangerous happened while here ie, being robbed or shark attack etc. Freezing cold showers, barely any water pressure. If staff is culturally on "island time" they probably shouldn't be running a resort. I wouldn't come here again. Positives: island is beautiful and food was good.

I don't think this resort matches the hype. Beautiful cay but not the most beautiful. Difficult to get to and from, maintenance needed in cottage (shower leaked, fridge leaked, kitchen faucet broken). Golf cart died headed to North Beach, and when I called, they said someone would come right away. After 45 minutes waiting, hitched a ride with a couple who luckily came by. Food is ok, nothing great. And you pay a lot for everything. Luxury to me means little things are done to make it a special experience. Sometimes I got coffee, sometimes not, sometimes turn down, sometimes not. Cavon (sp?), in Dive Shop was the highlight for me. What a great young man who was thrilled to show me how to catch a bonefish. Otherwise, I would unfortunately, not ho back. Too many better choices.

I do understand the difficulties in getting staff/supplies, etc in a remote location. But once you pay so much, it should match the expectation in my opinion.

A huge disappointment. Poor communication leading up to our vacation - that should’ve been our first sign of what was to come. Our staff coordinator failed to communicate that our flight was arriving too late in the day to go to the island so we had to last minute find a place to stay in Nassau and pay for a night on the island when we couldn’t even go there. Arrived on the island to find everything in varying degrees of disrepair. Nothing met the standards of what one would expect at this price point. For example, soap provided in bungalow was a bar of caress soap without a soap dish, phone didn’t always work, golf cart we were assigned was broken with no working lights, room has no place to put luggage, zero counter space in bathroom, drain never worked properly even though we asked for it to be fixed, room leaked water. Food was lacking. Often times we’d place an order for food and it would just never arrive. Be prepared to wait a long time to order food and receive food. Fruit delivered for morning breakfast was often inedible. No food menus in room. We tried to order room service and that proved impossible. When we could find staff to help us, they were all very kind. There was a random broken down golf cart on the side of the road our entire stay. We also almost got in a wreck with a golf cart with staff because road not lit and both our cart and staff cart didn’t have working lights. The one shining star of the trip was the dive team. I’m sure in its heyday the island was a magical place. It saddens me to see the current level of disrepair. Staff are aware and do their best to do what they can, but the issues are beyond them. Billing was all kinds of wrong, but based on our experience thus far we suspected there would be problems and were prepared to go line by line reviewing charges. This shouldn’t be the case since we selected for our trip to be all inclusive. Take your money and vacation time elsewhere. You are essentially paying thousands and thousands of dollars to go on a fairly primitive cabin camping trip. There is nothing luxury about this resort other than it’s on a private island.
