Squires Estate is a collection of eleven immaculately restored nineteenth-century houses and cottages on an idyllic hillside set above Governor's Harbour. The rentals cover two separate properties, which are a one minute walk from each other. Part of the Bahamian Heritage of Historical Buildings, the properties recreate life in the old style Bahamian tradition but with all the modern amenities.

We had a wonderful stay at Modern House, Squires Estate. The three-story house was very spacious, comfortable, clean, and well-equipped. The master suite takes up the entire third floor and overlooks the harbor, such a beautiful sight to behold. The location was ideal, close to the food store, gas station, beaches and Buccaneer Club which is an absolute must for downhome Bahamian cuisine. Patrick was very friendly and helpful, giving us great tips and recommendations. He was even kind enough to oblige me in my request to have a monitor on site when we arrived, which allowed me to work faster and get back to my vacation. We would definitely stay at Modern House again!

We stayed in Cigatoo Unit 5, At first, I was a little hesitant as when I looked at the photos for Unit 5, all those colours and fabrics felt a bit too much. In truth, it’s impossible to capture how charming and well appointed this unit actually is in photos. Everything just works so beautifully together - from the coral tiles to the abundance of light and spaciousness of the unit to the lovely outlook onto the garden and the 3 separate outdoor sitting areas on the unit - it’s just gorgeous in every way and each time we walked in the door we were continuously enchanted by this unit. On top of its aesthetic appeal, the beds were seriously comfy and the unit is so well equipped that you want for nothing. I could have happily stayed there for a month, especially as Squires is ideally situated on Eleuthera. Perhaps even more than the gorgeous unit and location was the exceptional service provided by Charmaine (and Patrick). Well before I had even arrived, Charmaine’s attention to detail, follow up, warmth and service stood out by a mile. She is a true asset to Squires and she made our stay even more magnificent - I wanted to buy postcards but didn’t want to go to the post office and she offered to not only buy stamps but also to post our postcards for us. When does that ever happen these days? In my experience, hardly ever. If I ever come back to Eleuthera, I wouldn’t stay anywhere other than Squires (and I stayed in 3 different places during this trip - North Eleuthera, South Eleuthera and Governors Harbour) and more specifically, Cigatoo Unit 5.

The perfect vacation spot AND wedding venue! We recently got married at Squires Estate and every single guest agreed Squires Estate is paradise!
Squires Estate is located centrally on the island of Eleuthera - meaning you can fly into all 3 airports and arrive to Squires within 45 minutes with GHB being only 15 minutes. From Squires you can walk to multiple restaurants and up the hill to the beautiful French Leave Beach. Every house on property has something unique to offer! The houses are extremely well kept, beautifully furnished (very comfortable beds) and well stocked with every kitchen essential if you plan to cook. We were able to reserve the whole property so that the majority of our guests could stay on property. They all loved the amenities offered, the central location of their house to all our wedding events/town/restaurants/beach and how welcoming the staff were. Patrick and the rest of the team has an answer to every question you may ask. They're extremely responsive to emails and WhatsApp messages.
We hosted a welcome party for 50 at the Modern House by the pool, it was the ideal spot to welcome all our guests from near and far. Patrick was great in ensuring the outdoor furniture was cleared to allow more room for guests and provided a great recommendation for a local bar tender who served the best cocktails. Our rehearsal dinner for 40 guests was on the grounds of the Belmont House - which offers beautiful views from the top of the hill! The deck, where we held our wedding reception under the tent, offers plenty of space for our 65+ guests to eat dinner and then dance the night away! All while overlooking the beautiful bay and a truly magical sunset. The Squires Team has a great relationship with our wedding planner, together, they were able to ensure we had the wedding of our dreams!
We've stayed in both Cornerwall & Modern House and can't wait to go back to Squires Estate and stay in another house soon!

The house we rented was clean, the beds were comfortable, pool was very inviting every day. Grounds were beautifully maintained. When we arrived, we found snacks and a bottle of red wine chilled. Beach towels provided for the pool. shampoo, conditioner and body wash were provided in all bathrooms. Beautiful location and the views are breath taking. Staff was so accommodating with any and all questions. They have an amazing team!!! From beach time, snorkeling, shopping, local dining and finding a local bar, for locals it was an amazing time by all. We will definitely be returning for a longer stay, renting a car to explore this beautiful Island as well as meeting more of the friendly local people.

We stayed in the Cornerwall House during our stay in Eleuthera and absolutely loved every minute. The house has three bedrooms and 3.5 baths, all featuring access to a beautiful terrace that over looks the pool and harbor. The house features great amenities and a pool, which we throughly enjoyed during our stay. The house itself is very nicely appointed and has everything you could possibly need during your stay including beach chairs and umbrellas, beach towels, a fully stocked kitchen, purified water, and more. The decorations and scenery created a serine and peaceful oasis. There are also quite a few restaurants and markets within walking distance which we frequented a lot during our trip.
The Squires Estate team is so responsive and offered great recommendations during our stay. Would highly recommend booking with them on Eleuthera! Can’t wait to come back!!

My wife and I, together with her sister and partner, have just spent a fortnight staying at the splendid Belmont House on the Squires Estate in Governors Harbour, Eleuthera. The magnificent, mid- nineteenth century historic house and swimming pool are located at the top of a hill with panoramic views over the village and Cupids Cay, possibly one of the best views on the whole island. With a short walk/drive to the amenities of Governors Harbour to the west and the magnificent Bahamian beaches to the east, the house is perfectly located for exploring the whole of Eleuthera.
The house has been beautifully restored to provide very comfortable, modern accommodation for up to 4 guests whilst still maintaining its historic elegance. The property managers, Patrick and Cedrick, couldn’t have been more helpful and we highly recommend this property for a wonderful Bahamian holiday - it truly is ‘Better in the Bahamas!'

We started planning this trip in 2019 to bring 30+ people to our favorite place to be married!! We had all of (middle) Squires booked when Covid hit, the property team helped us reschedule and kept us updated on covid/travel restrictions. We rebooked for 2021 and arrived the last week in June. The properties were beautiful, comfortable, the grounds were beautiful with flowering trees and the pools clean.
When our guests arrived, the homes were very clean and each stocked with household supplies even a welcome bottle of chilled wine and snacks in each of the 6 houses. The homes came with pool towels, beach chairs, and coolers.
The homes were within walking distance to stores and restaurants.
The property manager was onsite daily to help with any issues/questions our guests had.
Our guests enjoyed the pools daily. The screen porch at Pyfrom House is great.
We felt safe and the estate staff were all very nice.
The location on Eleuthera is perfect!! The most beautiful beach was a 2 min drive away. There were bikes also available to us.
These homes are rich in history, beautifully updated.
We held our wedding in the grounds of Belmont House, Belmont house was also a wonderful rental house, with the most stunning views of the Harbour. The house was a favorite of our group. The furnishings, grounds and view were stunning.
You will not be disappointed, booking anything on Squires Estates!! They have accommodations for any size group.
We will be back!

We had been to Eleuthera once before and fell in love with the island. On that trip, we stayed at the terrific French Leave Resort. This time, we were looking for something more budget-friendly. I was a little apprehensive about returning to this island I loved so much but staying in a place that was less luxurious. However, ultimately, we love the island for the gorgeous empty beaches and incredible water, so I kept an open mind.
I know that many visitors make beachfront homes their primary condition for an Eleuthera rental, but our idea of vacation is No Cooking, so we wanted something within walking distance of restaurants, and ideally with a view so that we could see the water, even if we couldn’t hear it.
I remembered Squires Estates from our first visit and loved the location. After reading a lot of reviews, we booked Belmont Cottage. Two things swayed me: one, a review mentioned the chickens and cats on the estate, big bonus in my book. Second, it seemed from a review that Belmont Cottage had a nice view of Cupid’s Cay.
The cottage was smaller and less luxurious than French Leave of course, but it was wonderful and exceeded my expectations. It's simply but charmingly furnished, with a beautifully renovated bathroom and a great shower. And most wonderfully, the front porch was bigger than I expected, with a gorgeous view of Cupid's Cay. We spent hours on that porch, watching Cupid’s Cay wake up, taking in the Eleuthera sunsets…
We could walk to Buccaneers Club, Da Perk, Frigates and Bacchus. French Leave Beach, where I ran every morning is a 10 minute walk away, and for us, Governor's Harbor is the perfect central point for exploring the north and south of the Island.
Overall, Belmont Cottage is charming, comfortable, and has a glorious view. Squires Estate is lovely, and everyone there, Charmaine, Britney, Patrick, was helpful and charming. It wasn't the 24/7 luxury service of French Leave, but it was everything we wanted and more.

My wife and I travelled to Eleuthera for the first time and absolutely loved the island! Nice people, good food and great beaches everywhere we went. We stayed in the Cornerwall house in the Squires Estate area of Governors Harbor and really enjoyed our experience. The house is centrally located to all Governors Harbor has to offer, yet only 5 minutes to French Leave Beach. Patrick (the host) came by after we arrived to get us settled in and was very helpful during our stay. We haven’t even left and we are already booking our next visit!

We LOVED our stay at Squires Estate. The Belmont House mixed vintage Bahamian charm and modern decor perfectly. The views over the harbor were amazing. The house was equipped with everything we needed for our five night stay - a cooler to take to the beach, umbrellas, a beach and restaurant guide (also made available as a downloadable app). Proximity to town was a plus and we visited nearby beaches by car in easy side trips. We capped off every day poolside or on the expansive verandas. Patrick could not have been more helpful, available or professional - accommodating a last minute room change and coming to the rescue to jump our dead car on our departure. We highly recommend Squires Estate and hope to make it back soon! Thank you!
