Detailed Reviews
This house, with its own beach on the Caribbean, was perfect for us. Skip and Sharon, the owners, have thought of everything — snorkels and masks, water toys, frisbees, beach umbrellas, a variety of boats, WiFi, a well-equipped kitchen, ample towels, a hammock, beach chairs — it's all here. The house is very comfortable. Skip is an able carpenter and makes sure everything's in good condition.
We're new to Eleuthera, and we'vd fallen in love with the island. The locals are exceptionally friendly; they always have time to give directions, answer questions, or fill us in on local history. We can't believe the spectacular beaches with nary a human in sight.
We feel truly blessed to have stumbled on the Barefoot Beach House, and we'll definitely be back.

I dont have words to say - how COOL it was and how good! PERFECT! Openminded, friendly, nice owners who lives nearby in the next house, green beautiful territory with parking, green green grass, terrace, barbeque, all the possible equipment you need while staying there. Perfect rooms with FULL equipments and furniture. Beautiful nice beach, amazing sunrises and sunsets. Though it might be some starfishes, sharp shells in the water and some times a seriously low tide on this side of Carribean, it does not influence on that.
This House if Perfect and located perfectly. Just enjoy that place! Strongly recommended

Just wanted to share with everyone a great place we stayed at in Eleuthera. We stayed at the barefoot beach house in the Mermaid Cottage. It is located in south palmetto point. Great house! Right on the water with a very nice beach just steps away! It's on the caribbean side so it is calm for kids. The house has everything you can think of! Beautiful views from all the rooms and a porch from where to gaze at the stars...you'll want to do this every night! Owners are very nice and will help you with anything! Check out their website at Thebarefootbeachhouse.

I stayed at Barefoot house (Bonefish Studio) at the end of Dec - beginning of January, for 8 days. My experience was absolutely amazing. The studio is perfect, furnished with anything you may need and more. Don't bring beach towels or masks for snorkeling, you will find everything there. The beach in front of the house is beautiful and always empty, so you will experience peace and quiteness. My suggestion is to bring some food from home, because things are very expensive in stores, since everything is imported. Sharon suggested this to me before leaving, and this was a very good suggestion! Skip and Sharon, the owners, live in a beautiful villa beside the house and they are so nice and helpful! One day we were arriving at home in the evening and Skip came to bring us a fish he had cought in the morning! If you like the resort life, don't go to the Barefoot House, where you will need only a swimsuit, a sunscreen and a t-shirt. But if you are looking for Paradise, please don't go anywhere else.

You know how good it feels when you arrive at a rental and it is far better than you could have hoped for?! This is such a property. The beach was right in front of us and the house is probably in one of the best Eleuthera locations you could vacation at. The view of the small islands in front of the house with a sunrise over a dock and sunset beyond an island is magnificent. We were able to go kayaking (multiple kayaks available), snorkeling (with supplies at the house to use) and Skip took us out on their boat. The house was immaculately clean and hosts very friendly and informative. We had an overall great great Bahama vacation and a lot had to do about the house we rented. We plan to book this rental again.

Booked this place last minute a few weeks ago and are we ever glad we did. We got the oceanfront room as we had our two kids with us and we required two beds. They have a pullout couch and a separate bedroom. Worked out great. The constant sound of the ocean just makes you want to chill.
Skip was quick to meet us and to make sure everything was in order. The suite was well stocked with all the necessities for meal preparation. The gas BBQ was a nice touch and worked great.
The location on the island is nice as you are about half way down the island and can easily drive to one end and back in a day to explore.
Had a great time and we will very likely return!

We stayed both in the Mermaid Cottage and the Bonefish room, unfortunately in that order because the Bonefish was a slight let down after having experienced the Mermaid.
The Mermaid is a very comfortable space with a lovely view of the water from both the living room and the bedroom. The breezes coming in through the screens along with occasional use of the ceiling fans kept the rooms cool and there was no need to turn on the AC, thus we could enjoy the sound of the waves all day and night. The large shower was also pleasant to use. The place was clean with numerous towels and wash cloths, a well equipped kitchen, and good information on the island.
The Bonefish is a smaller studio space and a little more weathered with signs of corrosion in several places. Still it was clean and had all the thoughtful amenities of the Mermaid. The unit faces the parking area and does not get as much breeze flowing through it so the ceiling fan was in constant use when we were in the space. If I was rating just the Bonefish unit, I would have given it a four.
We enjoyed the use of the clear bottom kayak, as well as the cooler, beach mats, chairs and umbrella available to guests. The swimming just steps from the door is good, as is the snorkeling along the rocky ends and around the Cays out front. The water is very shallow so one can walk out quite far, especially during low tide. Some afternoons, we shared the beach with an occasional family but for the most part, we had it to ourselves. Very nice.
South Palmetto Point is conveniently situated near the middle of the island so we were able to easily explore both the north and the south without feeling like we were wasting most of the day stuck in the jeep. Basic supplies were available near by and nice restaurants were not too far of a drive either. I would recommend renting a jeep since there are numerous lovely parts of the island to explore and aside from two small (and good) restaurants and one little grocery, there is little else within easy walking distance.
I would definitely recommend staying here. It's very relaxing and comfortable.

My wife and I left Eleuthera amazed at the beauty of this island. We enjoyed the "adventures" we took on the island. So many beaches to visit that we did not have time to see them all. The people are great and friendly. No bad experience what so ever. We will be back soon, for sure. The only thing we regret was that at this time of the year, a lot of restaurants were closed for the season or due to hurricane re-constructions. Good advise to all, bring a cooler with meats, coffee, cereal etc due to the high prices on food.

We wanted a reasonably priced vacation to check out the Bahamas. We got that and more. Our unit was the Bonefish and it was perfect for us. Huge King bed that was so comfy, a bigger than apartment sized refrigerator with ice already made for us, the kitchen was perfect for light meals in. We took a Delta flight to ELH and were met immediately after customs by the car rental agent, arranged by our hostess. The car was jeep-like and for our island exploring purposes exactly what we needed with good gas mileage too. The agent had a map to South Palmetto Point (about 50 miles away) and we did find it without trouble but beware there are few signs saying "Queens Highway" ...you have to have confidence that you are on one of the 2 main roads. The drive had several views of the water that were breath taking. But driving is opposite of the States. And you have to pay attention to pot holes, speed bumps and ruts just off drivers side or car trouble will be the cost of carelessness.
The week we were there the water was too rough (for us) to go out and fish or snorkel so we had a full week to do "island" things. We enjoyed the Leon Levy plant preserve , we visited a dozen nearby secluded beaches which we walked and were rewarded with shells, driftwood and ocean air. We bought freshly made "Prince Charles Rolls" from a local lady..hot out of the oven. We visited an island farm about a mile from our unit and enjoyed the products they had for sale in addition to their copious amounts of fresh veggies and fruits. Like jams, relish, souvenir hats or dolls, and bakery on tues and Friday. We had such a great week learning what the locals do for a living and of course soaking up the warm sun. I would say drive slow and don't be afraid to drive down the unmarked roads and also talk to the locals. English was never a problem and everyone was friendly and accommodating of us tourists. Mary

Everything you need for a clean, inexpensive place to land after a day of searching for your favorite beach on this island. They supply beach chairs, kayaks, cooler, etc. but it's all cash. No credit cards so be prepared.
