Reading through these reviews I can’t help feeling the lovely owners of the OVC are focusing on their other hotels on Eleuthera.
We’ve stayed here before. The location is brilliant and the interior decoration of the hotel is fashionably shabby chic but sadly the service lets the place down.
As other reviewers have expressed the dining staff can barely be bothered and any service you are lucky enough to receive is incredibly slow and accompanied with audible groans and complaints about how hard the
waitress is having to work, despite an almost empty restaurant. At one point I was told off for helping myself the inclusive breakfast and an expensive dinner on my last night was inedible.
After six nights I had the impression that any staff meeting must encourage hotel staff to extract as much money out of the guests as possible. At one point they tried to charge me to fill up a hot water bottle! And two small bottles of still water in the rooms are not free despite a room rate of $950 a night!!!
Sadly I won’t be returning.

This hotel has an extremely amount of potential but it falls short in so many levels. Let me start by stating that the staff is super friendly and helpful especially Rafaella. The breakfast menu was good but super slow and the staff really misses the mark when it comes to a good breakfast experience (by the time the food arrives you kind of forgot what you have ordered- even if we are talking about an orange juice: super lack of planning!) we also have the opportunity to dine once at the hotel and food was just ok but again service was slow, sloppy and overall expensive was mediocre. I would suggest trying other restaurants around the island. There is no internet access in the rooms and the internet access in the lobby area is super slow. We emailed and called the hotel months it advanced and we were told that there was a good internet connection across the board. The service at beach is almost nonexistent and the service at the bar couldn’t be slower if you try which it was super frustrating because I do believe this hotel has the potential to be awesome. In a positive note, the room was very nice and the beach was exquisite! So I’m not telling not to stay there but make sure that it suits your definition of a good holiday break!

The location of this elegant and classic boutique inn is not the only element that makes this accommodation very special.

As with similar stays along the pristine pink sand beach, being right on the water makes every night such a relaxed experience hearing the waves crashing throughout a quiet sleep and every morning a breathtaking experience, particularly at sunrise given it’s facing east.

The decor and ambiance are very tasteful and the food very tasty. The honor system self-service bar is a nice touch as well.

The staff is for the most part quite nice and helpful albeit slightly understaffed and as everything here, on “island time”, fine if you have nothing else to do, but needs a bit of poking if you have bookings around the island.

The ocean water is amazingly clear if a little chilly in January and the room shower’s hot water is at best lukewarm but very soft on the skin.

Overall a very pleasant stay that made us feel very much like we had done our homework prior to find the best fit for us.

This place is the definition of false advertising. First & foremost, we booked the Tree House cottage. Not private at all, literally a public passage for other guests. The food was good, but service was ridiculously slow and asking for something (like food or a bar bite) was like pulling teeth. We literally saw the chef roll his eyes when ordering something on the menu. The front desk was helpful in terms of coordination, but getting the room cleaned, food, clean towels, etc. was painful. For an establishment you are paying $750/night for - you should receive a level of service that’s above average, at best. This was well below. We will not be back.

The Ocean View Club experience for us, was hit and miss. The decor was precious, the food was good (albeit incredibly expensive, but such is life on Harbor Island), the serve-yourself bar was a nice touch, the staff was incredibly kind (especially sweet Diana), but that's where our positives end. Check in was a bit strange for us, as I felt they had to follow strict procedure that made the experience a bit clunky. It's hard to describe. The last day of our trip, we took a boat trip and saw The Other Side, which I wish we would have known more about when visiting. It seemed a bit more magical, and we would have made an effort to go visit for lunch. OVC was, in our opinion, very overpriced for the accommodations. We stayed in the main building, which had very little privacy, and no ocean view. The bed was meh, and we had to leave our shutters closed the entire time or else every guest on property walking to the beach would see in our room. Not a huge deal, but again, value for the price wasn't there for us. The photography/branding/website/instagram for this place is SO STUNNING that I think anyone would be a bit disappointed in real life (OVC, like I said we didn't get to visit The Other Side). It was difficult to tell the difference in properties from the booking page - for example we thought the pool was at OVC? I think it would have been helpful to have descriptions/photos of the type of room we booked online as well. If we could do our trip over again, we would definitely have a meal at OVC, but would not choose this property for our accommodations.

I am so torn with this review. When we went to OVC and TOS this year I was so hoping this would be the beginning of a yearly family tradition but I am not sure based on the experience that we will return to OVC. I am going to focus on OVC for the purpose of this review b/c all in all TOS met/exceeded expectations - especially the waitstaff they were wonderful.

OVC is set on an absolutely gorgeous beach and the hotel/accommodations are wonderful. Where we feel OVC falls short is with the service all around. My husband summed it up perfectly - it just felt like the hotel/staff/etc...needs attention and training from ownership. We know COVID hit the hotel sector extremely hard and we can look past a lightbulb being out or a sheet being less than brand new but what's hard to overlook is a lack of communication, planning and service towards the guests especially when the cost per night is north of $750 and food costing close to another $750 per day if you eat the three meals at the hotel.

we had a great experience with the hotel itself. We had one of the cottage one with beach view. We got really unlucky with bad weather. The wind was SO strong for 4 days we couldn't enjoy the beach. We had to check out a day earlier because there is nothing to do on the island if the weather is bad. They even cancelled our day trip to the Other side ( other hotel off the island) because the boat couldn't take us because of the wind.

This was our second visit! They treat us like family here, our last visit was in December of 2022. The hospitality is second to none. We love this place so much we had to bring our family with us this time. It my home away from home and the memories we make here will never be forgotten.

I can’t say enough about this place. They acted like family. Everyone was so nice. The room was spectacular with an outstanding view. We stayed here for a destination wedding for the first part of our vacation and loved every minute about our stay. It was paradise!

Answer from Chris M
Harbour Island
Hi Anne, There are several hotels on Harbour Island that have pools. Valentines, Coral Sands, and Pink Sands to name a few. Unfortunately, I do not know their policies on allowing outside guests to use their facilities, I would assume most do not. We do have a pool at our sister property, The Other Side. We do allow Ocean View Club guests to sometimes use the pool at The Other Side, but it depends on occupancy rates at that property at the time of your visit, so we cannot guarantee it will be available. Unless of course you decide to stay with us at The Other Side, then you could have full access to the pool and all we have to offer. We look forward to your visit!
