We stayed here for 5 nights - one of our party had been before and highly recommended it. Total escapism - once here, after a c.40 minute drive up an unmade road, you have the mountainside to yourself. Unique, eclectic Manor House with stunning grounds and a private reserve which is beautiful in all weathers - we saw zebra, Impala,...

This is a lovely old building in a manor appearance and filled with collectibles from books to weaponry. Rooms are individually decorated with tasteful style, comfortable and warm. If you like old fashioned you will love this. It is so quiet and there are bush walks wildlife to see and good food. Road in is not for ordinary vehicles but...

We spent last weekend at Kilmorna and it is an absolute treat. The setting is beautiful with the Manor House surrounded by indigenous montane forest on a 200ha nature reserve with a fair amount of wildlife. The views are spectacular, especially from the pool. The rooms, food and personal service are top notch. A bit like going back to an...

One night was definitely not enough time here - at least a long weekend should be put aside. Hosts were fantastic, food excellent and the rooms beautifully decorated. Rather bumpy dirt road to get there, but well worth it. Beautiful views and excellent birding and walks. Unfortunately never had enough time as we were only overnighting. Will definitely return with...

The very best luxury hotel in South 'efrica - and we have been to most of them -even (C) Ape Town! Driving up, and up, and up, and "in 1998 - Nothing happened here - (or similar)", and up... and then breaking the mist-line into a world of unexpected hydrangeas and magical wonder. We discovered this secret in 2008 and...

The Manor House is situated in Schoemanskloof and is a beautiful English style Manor House. The rooms, furniture and food is on par with the best international restaurants and the menus designed by the owner from his favorite foods as an international pilot. The service is exemplary.

We spent the weekend at Kilmorna Manor with friends. It is absolutely beautiful! We went for a lovely walk on Saturday morning, so refreshing and gorgeous scenery from up high on the mountains! The food was devine and the best of all was how they took my dietary requirements (sugar & glutenfree) in their stride & and with every meal...

Laura-ann is as elegant a hostess as the manor house in all its glory. The dusty climb up the mountain track quietly reveals a parking lot, which is filled by the radiance of our hostess seconds later. After being shown around the stately home we retire to comfortable poster beds in masterfully appointed bedrooms. Attention to the minutest detail feasts...

A great place to stay, secluded and surrounded by nature. Just a few kilometers of the main road to Nelspruyt. A winding road leads up to the manor, along the road are monkeys, baboons, zebras and impalas. Once you go through the gate you'll enter an oasis of peace and quietness. The rooms are very nicely appointed and ours had...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Kilmorna Manor is a unique, one of a kind home, that was designed and built by an eccentric Irishman in 1978, who decided that he wanted to have the best of both worlds: his deep love of the Lowveld Bush coupled with the gracious lifestyle of an English country squire. The result is one of the most unique homes to be found in Mpumalanga. A Tudor mansion of magnificent proportions set on a 208-hectare, malaria-free, nature reserve high up against the escarpment of Schoemanskloof. Kilmorna Manor Guesthouse and Private Nature Reserve occupies 208 hectares in the Schoemanskloof, a deep valley through which the Crocodile River flows down the escarpment from its source on the Highveld plateau to the sub-tropical Lowveld. Schoemanskloof is thus in a transition zone, with elements of both the Highveld and the Lowveld, and this has resulted in a rich diversity of plants, birds, invertebrates and other life forms. On the steeper slopes above and around the manor - at an elevation between 1300 and 1500 meters - the habitat is evergreen Afromontane Forest. Annual rainfall is between 1000 and 1250 mm per year and mist is a regular feature, sometimes lingering for days. This mist provides essential moisture for the escarpment forests that are sometimes referred to as 'mist-belt' or 'cloud' forests. Kilmorna Manor is a never to be forgotten experience. Surrounded by unspoiled bush, Kilmorna Manor is home to a wide variety of plant life from ancient gnarled trees to endangered cycads as well as fields of magnificent indigenous wild flowers. Sightings of soaring crowned eagles to darting brown hooded kingfishers abound. Take a gentle stroll through the grasslands, or for the more adventurous, a walk up mountain paths for the most spectacular view of the Schoemanskloof Valley. And for those who just want to relax - enjoy a sundowner on the deck of the rim flow pool and watch the zebra and waterbuck graze a few meters away. Kilmorna Manor has six gracious en-suite bedrooms, each leading out onto the lush sub-tropical garden, which is home to a wide variety of bird life, including the elusive Narina Trogon. Knysna and purple crested turacos grace the gardens as well as sunbirds that can be seen darting through the trees and aloes which line the stream flowing through the garden. Kilmorna Manor is well situated for day expeditions in and around Mpumalanga including Kaapsehoop, Dullstroom and The Kruger National Park. ... more   less
