The people here were really friendly, and the pool was a treat. The owner has recently started a buffet-style lunch service, frequented by guests and locals, which was really good typical Puerto Rican food. The town square in Adjuntas, one block away, has been revamped--there's a coffee kiosk, and young folks sitting around with their laptops, evidently using wi-fi. We're definitely planning to return to Adjuntas and stay here again. The rooms are very basic, but we enjoyed it just fine. We are in our 60's, and are used to "nothing fancy" travel.

There is nothing special about Monte Rio, but also nothing not to recommend it. Adjuntas itself has little to recommend, but it does allow one to get into the mountains quickly and easily, via highway 10 from Ponce. In that regard, it is a good base, or a good starting point.

Monte Rio is a block from the Plaza, in a somewhat noisy area. The room is basic but acceptable. They have a pool but nothing else in amenities (a one-station TV and no internet that we found in the city).

There are great views of the mountains from the rooms. The hotel has a restaurant that serves a $5 Puerto Rican lunch buffet.

There are only two choices around Adjuntas, and for a large distance. This is the less expensive of the two, and is wholly adequate, though basic.

The Monte Rio Hotel in the rainforest town of Adjuntas is a nice place to stay if you want to explore that area a bit. The price was reasonable at around $60 a night and they take a credit card. When I called they did not speak English, I was able to reserve a room with my very limited repertoire of Spanish though.
My brother and I stayed there two nights. It is not a super fancy place, but a nice budget accommodation that was clean and the staff was friendly. It is what you would expect for the price. It is right in the town of Adjuntas near the town square and took a bit of driving around the narrow streets to find. If you have a GPS the coordinates are (N18.16207, W66.72459). There is a parking lot also.

I think that most of the people posting positive things about this hotel is beacause it is probable they live in Adjuntas, beacause truly its the worst place to be. And I ca not believe the almost 5 stars what in the world is wrong with people don't you know about good places, worst experience of my life. Bad, bad bad service, even in treating people they are very rude.

We arrived there at about 5:30 AM. there was a piece of paper taped to the door that said"for late night service call this #" i called the number numerous times! other people called also, no answer! 3 1/2 hours later, we called our cousin, who then called the owner Melo and he came and opened up and gave us our room. The person(Anibal) in charge of opening was no where to be seen. we went to the room and turned on the TV, no TV. I then went to turn on the AC and guess what no AC either!!! I was very upset by then n the owner saw this. the AC was fixed, however the TV took 2 days b4 i could see the 1 channel TV they have. U have to watch whatever the office is watching, u have no other choice. later that night we it came time to shower guess what not even warm water was coming out was supposed t be a shower head!!! besides the water being cold it had no pressure. As far as the pool was concerned, it was disgustingly dirty....that water had not been cleaned in a very long time!!!! Also no phone in the room, no outlets in the bathroom, and they close at 5.00 pm. I felt totally embarassed to bring my sister and niece to such a place, I was supposed to have been a place to relax but it turned out into a nighmare. Never again will i stay or recommend that place to anyone.

After reading the negative reviews for this hotel we thought we were going to hate this place, but anyways we needed a cheap place to stay for the night. It was affordable, clean, comfortable room with a balcony, free parking and a clean swimming pool. We had a great time and will be coming back :) totally recommended!

We stayed here one night while visiting the mountains. There were definitely more bad than good traits.

The good:
-location-it is right in the heart of
town and you can walk to the
square, restaurants and Casa
Pueblo.
-nice view of the mountains off
balcony

The bad:
-dated and dirty
-mattresses are old and
uncomfortable
-noisy
-staff was not pleasant
-no seating on balcony
-at $100 for the night, it is very
over priced
-roosters keep you up all night

I would not recommend staying here unless there were no other options.

The first thing that you have to remember is that this is a small and simple family run hotel not a 4-5* resort. Stayed for 1 night in the first floor room 4 which is the corner one, and was concerned about noise but it was fine. The room is basic but clean. Had TV and AC. No wifi access in this room but I think others get signal. The restroom was OK but the shower could be improved; well at least it had hot water, even though it took a bit to get hot water. The room also had a small balcony overlooking the famous Gigante Dormido Mountains as well as the hotel’s pool. Breakfast was not included in our package nor lunch as some of their offers and we paid around $100 which is a bit high for what it is however, you can’t beat the location: a few steps from the Plaza where you can have a nice coffee and good breakfast at the “panaderia”/ bakery in the corner as well as the main Catholic Church. This time I didn’t had lunch there but I had it in other occasions and is a great deal: $7 for delicious homemade puertorican food (small buffet) with drink included. This is not a fancy place but it’s a good option if you are in the area and want to stay downtown.

Noisy, even after 10pm, very bad pillows, average breakfast, mostly reheated, good satellite tv service. Basic, clean room. Close to downtown Adjuntas and walking distance to Casa Pueblo. Pretty small hotel, run by its owners. Needs improvements.

If you want a different getaway this is the place. Is in downtown Adjuntas (no beach around). Walking distance to the Plaza and food kiosks. Clean and affordable. Small hotel, which makes the customer service experience unique. The room was very basic, but it had a balcony to the poolside and a great view to the mountains. They offer a buffet style lunch full of typical Puerto Rican food. It was delicious! Totally recommend it!
