Almost at the end of the road, but still less than 10 minutes from city center and head of the Quill trail. I had a good deal two person bungalow with a scooter ($156/night; free transfer to the airport). The scooter was a lot of fun. Made it to the botanical garden at the other side of the Quill. Toni is the very friendly manager.
Quiet little park with neat little bungalows in a spacious garden with pool and lounge area on top of the cliffs. Self catering (good kitchenette on the porch; big supermarket in town 2 km away) except for breakfast. You need to have your own transport (little jeep or so, or rent a scooter). No hurricane damage. The caretaker Ron is very helpful and friendly. I'll be back.
What a wonderful place to stay. Beautiful views, cozy cottage and the friendliest and most service minded hosts. We also loved the fact that a car or scooters as well as breakfast were included in the price. It's a very private resort with very well maintained gardens and nice and clean cottages. Scotty our host is the best, right from the moment he picked us up from the airport until the end of the holiday. The cottage has no air conditioning but made the experience for us extra special. Where do you get to sleep with windows and doors open under a mosquito net and get to look at the stars.
Statia Lodge is set on a lovely piece of property with absolutely stunning ocean and volcano views. The pool area is beautiful, and includes comfortable loungers. They recently added WiFi for the entire property (not just the pool area). Scotty was extremely helpful and accommodating, and really tried to make things right. The units are very rustic. We had a two bedroom, one bath, for three people The windows were not screened and the mosquito nets over the beds did not provide full coverage. The fans that were working barely moved the air around. The water was not drinkable and no bottled water was provided. The small refrigerator was not cold. There was no ice. I slept poorly due to the heat and the roosters. The toiletries provided were shampoo and bar soap. The so-called "kitchen" consisted of a sink, tiny fridge, and two-burner hot plate. In addition to a variety of insects, birds, large spiders and lizards got into our rooms. The best part of breakfast was the Nescafe. Also offered was canned fruit juice, white bread, processed American cheese in plastic wrappers, ham lunchmeat, boxed cereal with room-temperature milk - not the continental breakfast we expected and barely edible. This would be a great location for a girl scout / boy scout trip or senior high school trip, provided the price was significantly less. The rental did include a small car, which was necessary as you cannot easily walk to any stores or restaurants from here. Maybe this place has a future as a detox center as it is quite remote. Again, let me say that Scotty was great and really tried to make our stay better. We've stayed in many rustic, bare bones places and been happy. Unfortunately, this was to one of them.…
We stayed at the lodge for 10 nights. You get a bungalow with a porch and kitchen, a bedroom, bathroom and a great view. Everything is clean and very well taken care of. The kitchen is well equipped, the bedroom has no AC but ours had 3 fans and a mosquito net. A scooter is included in the price, which you will need to get into town (~8 min. drive) There is a pool and wifi available. The only meal served is breakfast, which is basic but alright. (No breakfast Sundays) Great place if you really are just looking for somewhere to sleep and don't need all the amenities a hotel would offer. Would return again.
