The Grand Mayan is a beautiful resort, with wonderful beaches, pool, lazy river and a breakfast buffet to die for!
The staff is pleasant and anxious to help, wear masks constantly, and they are constantly sanitizing and cleaning everything to alleviate any Covid concerns. (For instance, in the ladies room by the pool, an attendant cleaned each toilet stall after every use.). We were very satisfied with our visit, although a few more English speaking attendants in the fabulous spa would have been nice.
The highlight, and very best part of our visit, was the transportation services we received from Sebastian Hernandez
at ACAPULCOFORALL.COM. Using this site, we contacted Sebastian in advance with our flight arrival information. He picked us up at the airport, took us to the grocery store (which also sells alcohol!) and then on to the Grand Mayan. More importantly, he can be your tour guide during your stay, and he speaks English quite well and is also extremely knowledgeable about the history, special sites to visit, and all things Acapulco. He has arranged for us to have the best possible viewing seats, with dinner, for the cliff divers at La Quebrada, taken us to the Chapel of Peace, to the incredible Diego Rivera panoramic mosaic mural, to the central market, to experience authentic local Mexican food, to release baby sea turtles from the Campamento Tortuguero (by far my favorite activity on the trip) and even to spend a little time with a local family! He is most accommodating, and he is also fun to be with! We thought his fees were extremely reasonable as well. I highly, highly, recommend that you contact him for assistance with any trip to wonderful Acapulco.
Back to the hotel- we were highly satisfied, and thrilled that the manager had a special cake delivered to our room for our 30th anniversary! I do need to mention their Covid testing policy. They will provide you with Covid testing right there at the hotel prior to your return trip, and the process was quite satisfactory. What caught us off guard was that the testing runs $80.00 apiece, which didn’t surprise me, but I was surprised that you had to pay for your test in cash and cannot charge it to your room account. I just wish I had known this in advance!

Our experience, my family and I, was amazing. All of the people we super friendly in and out of the resort. Everything at the resort, and all the excursions away, were very well priced.

We want to give a special shout out to Baldo and Brian. They were our drivers for the week and always went above and beyond to make sure that we had everything we needed at all times. They were our your guides through the city and provided us with a wealth of knowledge we will never forget.

We also want to give a shout out to Juan, and both Victors on the Eco tour. They all made sure to provide us with the best experience possible and were always friendly.

Our final shout outside go to Fancisco and Ana Marie at the resort. Ana always made sure to help us setup our excursions and even helped us to change our reservations last minute for one of our trips. Francisco was the best! Every time we went down to the pool, he was always there to greet us, tell us all about the specials, and even knew us by name. He, like everyone else, showed great hospitality and always made sure we had drink or food on hand.

Our experience overall was amazing, and we most definitely will return soon; however, we cannot give a 5star rating due to a couple details. The biggest gripe we had was the lazy river. It was one of leading reasons for choosing this resort and it was closed our entire stay. Multiple times we asked when it would be up and running amd we were promised that it would during our stay. We sit here now, waiting for our ride back to the airport, and the lazy river remains closed. Our second issue was the showers. Of the four showers we had access to during our stay, only one of them had hot water. I understand that in Mexico they typically do not use hot water in their showers, but when we got upgrades our only request was for hot water in our showers and we only got one. Even our bath only had cold water. Who wants to take a cold water bath?

I would like to end by saying that despite the couple issues, our stay was spectacular. The people were great. We felt safe everywhere we went, despite the beautifully chaotic traffic. And most of all, the weather and the city provided us with an amazing experience.

We loved our stay over Spring Break. We were all impressed with the beauty of the property, itself. Very impressive entrance and perfectly maintained grounds. We felt like we were in the jungle! The pool and lazy river were perfect. The beach is beautiful but rough and the vendors, though polite, are a constant distraction. The service at pool and beach was very good. I LOVED my visit to BRIO spa. The massage and facial by Justina were some of the best I’ve ever had (plus the spa itself is very tranquil). We ate at the breakfast buffet twice and thought the food was quite good. It included an omelette/egg station, tons of breads and fruit along with savory items. We left the property for all our dinners. The rooms were clean. We had two rooms and had trouble with the toilet in each room. We called and maintenance was there within 15 minutes and took care of the issue. It never happened again. Housekeeping was good (we got skipped inexplicably one day) but after a call to the front desk we had fresh towels within 10 minutes. I would definitely return and highly recommend this hotel. My whole family loved our stay!!

I am staying at The Grand Mayan and in the past 4 days I have had to ask someone to get out a net to clean the pools and/or the lazy river each day. Most pools are cloudy and the lazy river was full of bugs and debris. If they do clean it is only on the perimeter. Very disappointed.

The door was locked for our adjoining rooms upon arrival. Maintenance arrived within 10 minutes of our call, and we received a followup call to make sure everything was working well. We had our do not disturb signs on the doors one day and received a call that evening from the housekeeping staff if we would like just the trash taken out or new towels. From check-in to lounging by the pool, every employee at Vidanta did a fantastic job-Very good customer service! The furnishings are a little dated (just style wise), but everything is clean and was in very good working condition.

We had some concerns about visiting Acapulco because of the US Government's travel warning, but no regrets here. We had a grand week at the Grand Mayan. Very clean, large 2BR unit, soaking pool on the balcony -- though a bit dated. Beautiful grounds, pools, beach. Only negatives were very high "resort fee," 3 device limitation for internet, inaccurate bill at checkout. We were also very fortunate to connect with a wonderful local driver and tour guide, Roberto Alarcon, who made the week quite memorable. Very personable and professional, possibly the best I've ever worked with in many years of travel. He made us feel safe at all times, seemed to know everybody in the region, served with a smile and chilled water/beers/tequila! His tours of the city & Tierra Colorada are highly recommended.

We have visited the Grand Mayan annually for 3 years. All of our experiences have been great. Traveling with family and friends with ages ranging from seniors to children, we all have things to do. We enjoy the room, pools and beach. Another highlight are the times we spend away from the resort seeing parts of Acapulco. Angel Flores (angelinacapulco@gmail.com) provides clean vehicles and expert knowledge about Acapulco, what to see and where to go. And we always feel safe with Angel and his team.

All in all this was a great trip. The best part of our trip would be the airport transfer and travel services we used. I would highly recommend ACÁPULCOFORALL.COM by Sebastián Hernández, booking on line is very easy and can be done through WhatsApp. If you are looking for a reliable way to get to and from the airport or around Acapulco I'd google Acapulco forall by Sebastian and make a reservation. They even provided us with car seats. It's nice during these times to know the transportation is going to be safe, clean, sanitized and reliable.

As for the hotel.... We were not made aware of the condition of this resort. Most of it is closed and under construction. There were very few activities and things for the kids or the adults to do. There are one and half restaurants open. Half the pools are closed. None of which we were aware of. We've been to the other vidanta resorts and they blow this place away. In every way. The beach here is beautiful but it is filled with aggressive vendors. Which I never experienced on other vidanta properties. This location seems to be getting some upgrades. But the current condition would lead me to suggest picking another vidanta location or something else all together.

The majority of the complex had a smell of mildew at the Grand Mayan. After the first night there everyone woke up with a headache, so they changed my room. The next one had an overwhelming smell of mildew too. So they moved us again. After the third move we were tired of being moved. So, I called the front desk and a guy came upstairs and removed a bucket of sitting water that was in the ceiling. I’m assuming it was there to collect the condensation from the A/C unit. He also poured some water absorbent beads in a strainer and placed that in the celling. He then spray some stuff in the vents and throughout the room. This is clearly a known issue if he had all of these quick fix remedies on hand. The next day we went to the pool and when we came back the housekeeper turned on the air and closed the patio doors. I previously opened them to allow the place to air out and turned off the A /C to prevent the reintroduction of the mildew smell in the room. Once again I called the front desk and the guy came and sprayed again. I noticed black mold around the threshold of the door that leads from the bathroom to the bedroom. Also, there was clearly an attempt to paint over the mold on the celling of the shower. I have pictures if you’d care to see them.

The pool is very large and beautiful. There is a small snack bar that serves limited food and drinks (including alcohol and beer). The hotel won't let you have a cooler or any glass by the pool, and we saw several guests fight with security about this during our stay. You can bring water bottles and small snacks, like chips, which we did. You can bring your own cooler down to the beach, there are little pop up tents (no palapas anymore) and you can drink as much as you want of your own beer down there. The sand is very hot and the waves are too strong to safely swim, especially for small children. If you have an accident (which I did, during my stay, and needed stitches!) there is a 24 hour medical clinic closely (about a 2-3 minute walk) called the Centro Medico Diamante. This basically saved our vacation, and we really did enjoy the remainder of our trip.
