Vallarta Shores is a unique property, offering spacious luxury suites in a downtown, beachfront location. This was my second time here, staying with a group of friends for two weeks. Besides the location, the best asset of Vallarta Shores is its support staff: housekeeping, maintenance, and the chefs were absolutely incredible, and made the stay extremely enjoyable. Our chefs were Lulu and Irvin, and each brought their own expertise to every dish they prepared. We were impressed by every meal, and learned a few new cooking tips too. Unfortunately, the management does not shine as bright as the support staff. A couple years ago, I recommended this property to a friend, who made an advance booking under a policy that would allow him to cancel his 50% deposit for a refund prior to the final payment date. Later he needed to cancel, but the management refused to refund the deposit (offering a future credit instead). After my friend disputed the deposit charge, the management lied to the credit card company by providing a different cancellation policy than the one my friend booked under. (The issue has still not been resolved.) Finally, there was a very upsetting incident during our stay. A member of my group, who happens to be a darker-skinned Mexican-American, was stopped upon entry by a front desk staff person who assumed he was a delivery boy (addressing him as "joven") -- this was after we had already been staying here for a week! Only when the manager intervened was he allowed to proceed upstairs, and no apology or explanation was offered. This disgusting episode of racial profiling soured our stay. So if you go, only book if you're sure you're not going to cancel, and you will have an enjoyable stay...if your skin is the right color, that is.…
This is the second time we’ve been to Vallarta Shores as a large group in the penthouse. Although the penthouse itself was lacking in a few areas the second visit, the one thing that wasn’t lacking was our chef for two weeks, Lulu. She was our chef for our first visit and she left such a positive impression on all of us, that we requested her for this most recent visit. Lulu is the definition of professional. She is beyond courteous, skilled and always on point. She also has a strong intuition and feel for what her guests want and need and will spare nothing to make sure they are fulfilled. Our every meal (lunches and dinners for 2 weeks) were prepared perfectly and professionally. She is perhaps the greatest ambassador that Vallarta Shores has. I can’t recommend her services enough to those of you considering a stay in the sky suites or penthouse at VS. With that said, the penthouse is in need of maintenance. When we stayed in 2019, the ice maker wasn’t working proper. Two years later, it still wasn’t working. Cabinet hinges were broken, the walls needed a new coat of paint and the pool’s ceramic tiles were coming unglued all over. The front desk staff couldn’t have been less hospitable. This was the case in 2019 too. All I have to say is the Lulu was our vacation hero. You should make here yours too! …
This was our first trip to Puerto Vallarta and we found Vallarta Shores after some research into all-inclusive suite options. As the primary cook of the family, and after nearly a year of perpetual in-home dining (thanks, COVID!), I was very excited to have a chef service built into the accommodations in the sky suites. Even in my wildest dreams, I would not have expected to have such a talented chef as Carlo. He was an excellent collaborator for menu planning and a conscientious and friendly addition to the daily life in the suite. We chose to have him cook breakfast and dinner, and between the leftovers from our dinners, the fruit and snack options he shopped for, and our adventures out on the town, lunch was never a problem. Carlo is a master of the culinary arts. We had an opportunity to taste three of the "mother sauces" (hollandaise, espagnole, and velouté) in our meals, and all were excellent. He produced an incredible osso buco with a saffron risotto for our birthday party. Carlo's cooking shines across many international cuisines, but his passion for Mexican cooking is also evident in his tamales, his salsas, and his selection of local candies and treats that he provided as part of our welcome to the suite. Every day was a new adventure, and every evening we could unreservedly say "this is the best meal we've had so far." Breakfast was also a delight. Carlo's capacity for sauces shone through in his chilaquiles, as well as with eggs benedict. He didn't pass up opportunities to pair fruit and other accompaniments with the things that we planned on the menu, and as a result every morning was fresh and exciting. Carlo was also a conscientious and smart shopper, guiding us regarding what was in season and what dishes would maybe be better on a different visit. He was sensitive to possible budget issues and brought up cost when a dish was going to be particularly expensive. In a situation where you are trusting your chef to shop wisely for you, it was wonderful to be able to trust Carlo implicitly. If Carlo is your chef and you do not request tiramisu for dessert at least once, you are missing out. All of his desserts were unbelievable: his chocolate sauce for the profiteroles was insane; the bananas flambé were bathed in a Grand Marnier-infused, buttery sauce that I wanted to lick off the platter; and the tartaleta was SO GOOD. But the menu lists his tiramisu as a specialty and they are not wrong. So. Delicious. The suite is also wonderful, with amazing views of the ocean and a lot of opportunities to bird watch from the pool or patio. The beach is footsteps away, and the entire staff is dedicated to your comfort and satisfaction. But if it wasn't clear, the highlight for me was being cooked for by a fantastic chef each day.…
Everything about staying in Sky Suite D was amazing, from the views to the great beach! But the best part was our chef, Carlo! He made our stay magical, and his food is so good it makes you feel like you are being transported to a different culture of cuisine every night! My parents took me here for my 19th birthday and not only did Chef Carlo surprise me with birthday balloons, but he also made me a tiramisu cake (with my name on it!) that is by FAR the best birthday cake I have ever had! And maybe even the best cake I've ever had! His kindness and deep love for cooking is evident in everything he does and made this vacation an absolute paradise. We are definitely coming here again, and will always request Chef Carlo!
Sky Suite D was the perfect place for our small family getaway! The location is the best and the management had every detail taken care of – from our airport pickup to our chef arrangements to our in-room COVID tests to return to the United States. The best part by far was our personal Chef Carlo! He was AMAZING! We stayed for five days, and while it seemed impossible to improve, each day’s meal was somehow even better than the last! He can truly make any kind of cuisine – we had fantastic traditional Mexican dishes, Italian meals and desserts (the BEST!), American, French… His table presentations were top notch and always made us feel like each meal was something special. Our daughter had her birthday during our stay and he decorated the table with flowers and balloons, and even made a beautiful birthday cake along with all her favorite dishes. Carlo is a wonderful chef and a wonderful person – he always has a smile and his passion for cooking is clear in everything he does. We also appreciated how he could do so much without seeming to even be there – we just went about our vacation and it was almost as if he wasn’t there, except of course when every breakfast and dinner showed up on our table right on time! Then magically the kitchen was somehow sparkling clean by the time our meal was done. We will certainly return, and we hope we will be able to request Carlo again for next time!…
