Slowly doing some Reno’s to the rooms. Still however have some old furniture and appliances. We stayed in a one bedroom which was very spacious and poolside with a small view of the ocean between two buildings. They have heated the pool but at times seems to warm to cool off in after a day in the sun. Breakfast included in the room. Best way is to do all inclusive so you can use the main hotel Canto del Sol across the street. Lots of shop and small restaurants with in walking distance or take the 10 minute bus ride downtown. If your expecting the ritz stay elsewhere.

If you expect a 5 star hotel, book and pay for one. Don’t book 3 star and complain. This was our first stay at Canto Del Sol, 3 weeks, and from the time we arrived, greeted by name from Raul, til the day we left, the service was 5 star. Our room was spotlessly clean, the hotel grounds were immaculately tended to. The activity staff Rene, Sandy and Gill , around the pool were outstanding, friendly and very entertaining. A special mention to Jorge for bar/lunch service around the pool who not only attended to us like a private butler but also all of the other guests as well. We had the all inclusive package , which included the Specialty restaurants where we dined most evenings. The service and quality of meals were excellent.
The hotel and staff went over and above for a SuperBowl party and Valentine’s Day, with a special themed dinner Oceanside for all guests, a nice surprise for Canadians and Americans.
I can understand why so many people have been returning to this hotel year after year.
We have travelled to many countries and always keep in mind that we are guests in their country and to embrace their culture.

Just getting home from a wonderful trip at the canto del sol in puerto vallarta mexico. I travelled with my two boys 15 and 13 years old.
I have to say the food was delicious and lots of authentic Mexican cuisine. The pools were clean and well looked after. The beach was a bit rocky however if you walk a few minutes up the beach there is plenty of nice areas to swim.
We very much enjoyed the short 20 minute walk to downtown. We also paid 10 pesos to ride the bus if we were tired of walking. The hotel is older and there are repairs and construction in some areas. Our room was quite far from the main building in the villas section. We enjoyed the smaller pool closer to us and the Mexican ceviche and ice cream there! The a la carte Italian restaurant was amazing !!
I would definitely book another trip at canto del sol. I met a women who was enjoying her 10th stay there ! The weather was perfect and food delicious. I will miss my morning omelet and green juice. My sons really enjoyed the burgers and chicken fingers by the pool. Was a perfect vacation for us and I would highly recommend to others. There is something for everyone.

The service at dinners are slow and menu repetitive, so get room service which is much better or splurge and take an Uber to town where there are plentiful inexpensive wonderful restaurants. Also, I requested they add V to the buffet signs so it’s easier for us vegetarians. Also, that room service better menu is available around the pools anytime!

2 bedroom luxury suite originally put in on December 10, 2022 was anything but luxury and not even close to the pictures listed, it faced a parking lot at the backside of the building with zero view of any pool as listed in the advertisement and is something i would have never booked. 2nd room not bad, had a pool view but the fridge and stove didn’t work, and all the beds where way past their prime (like 30 years past, see pictures) causing daily morning back pain. Flight delay going home December 20, 2022 and I paid $100 CDN for a 7pm late check out fee and told by the dayshift front desk clerk (after checking with his manager) it would be $600 CDN more if we needed to stay the night. Once the flight was cancelled at 6pm I went to the front desk to take them up on the additional $600 CDN offer for the night but to our surprise it was $1000 CDN for the night not the $600 CDN we where told that morning at 10am. After talking with the night shift manager to some length, all he could say was that dayshift must have been confused and the price was $1000 CDN. I feel they tied to take advantage of us by placing us in that first dump of a room then moving us the next day when a pool view room opened up (overbooking maybe) Then again taking advantage of when told one price for the additional night and charged another when they basically had us stuck. The food isn’t great, breakfasts are good, lunch and dinners are horrible, ate at a little pub (Cafe Roma) across the street most days.

They apparently didn’t have room in their hotel. They tried to put us up in the Villa Vallarta that is attached to them. I would have slept in the Lobby or at the beach before I stayed in that room. The bell boy was worried for us and said he wouldn’t have stayed there either. It took me asking 3 times before they finally had an upgrade for us. They put 3 of our group in upgraded rooms. When the last 6 of our group asked for 3 more rooms they wanted to charge us $75usd per night. Finally my husband asked and got us an upgraded room for free. It was semi clean. The sheets were gritty and had stains and there was a random loofa in our shower. I tried to have a shower and there was no hot water. None, not even luke warm. It was cold. I feel dirty, I’m disappointed and tired. The front desk staff is awful. The service staff, bell boys, wait staff, etc are the only good thing about this place. Food sucks, it is a pool only resort and the beach is horrible, that’s the only reason I recommend the pool. It looks extremely dirty. DO NOT STAY HERE

A small resort in a ideal location. Easy walking distance to great restaurants Costco and bus transportation to go to the Melancon or Walmart
The entire staff are very friendly and work extremely hard.
Jorge better known as George and Pedro are the best pool waiters on the planet .
The entertainment manager Gil and his staff have so many activities for both kids and adults.
Would love to acknowledge recognition to food waiters Miguel and Nicholas who always were there asking you if you needed anything ( coffee refill etc)

This has been our go-to place for 15 years. The best of both worlds. The Villas is laid back with a quiet pool for relaxing but if you feel like more action, you have full access to the Canto Del Sol next door (check your package). The staff are terrific from housekeeping to the waiter at the bar by the pool. Studio suites open on the pool for early morning dips. Great location, short bus ride downtown. It may be 3 star but the rooms are clean and comfortable and they treat you right.

We’re here on a friend’s time share so it’s difficult to complain about anything. So, if I had paid for this, I’d be very pissed about the coffee and the food. We are not all-inclusive, thank goodness. We can eat anywhere we’d like. It’s unfortunate that the food is so lousy here because EVERYTHING else about this place is spectacular. Would have loved to lounge at the pool all day but we got to the point where even getting coffee here is out of the question. The food is bland and un/under seasoned. The 65+set seem to enjoy it. I like exciting, unique and tasty food. Ain’t gonna happen here. I brought my own

The property is well-kept. Very clean and beautiful. The staff are friendly and very accommodating. The pools are clean and fun. Lots of comfy places to sit.
