Pros) -The location is desirable since it is located in the historic center. -Staff were friendly. -Our room was clean. Cons) -Issue with room access card: almost every day had to go back to the reception and ask them to reactivate or review the access card. On last day we were told that this might be because of a setting at first day which beg the question why they did not fixed it. -Room do not have great sound isolation, you could hear people from next door talking, woke up in the middle of night once. -Beyond basics it was difficult to communicate with staff at reception. -Room was a bit worn out
I loved this hotel. Will return again. Great central location, clean, spacious comfortable rooms, delightful restaurant with tasty food, professional kind and friendly service. Staff helps with taxis, directions, travel tips. All so pleasant! Only stayed 2 nights, but will return and stay longer. Viva Mexico!
The location could not be better it's right in the middle of so many museums, churches, and mercados. The restaurant on site was amazing. The hotel also got us a driver that we used the whole trip who acted as a tour guide and he was great as well.
One of the best hotels I've been. From a service perspective they deserve 10 out of 5! Staff kind and helpful. The breakfast was fantastic. The food in lobby (sweets, fruits, coffee/tea) made you feel welcome. Location cannot be any better, right next to Zocalo and public transport. They have a rooftop patio which overlooks the city and the cathedral (hence the hotel name). Awesome view at night. We stayed at 2 separate rooms. The first one on 3rd floor was not renovated and did not look very nice. The second room on 7th floor (705) was renovated and lux. However our 7th floor room was next to elevator and stairs which "staff" used and it was very noisy and staff were loud and not considerate that guests were sleeping, especially in the morning. But since the hotel staff were so helpful and accommodating in every way, that did not affect our experience much. Overall great hotel and would definitely recommend and come back. …
We stayed here on our first and last day in Mexico country. Located at the heart of the city. Rooms are a bit cold, showers and wifi are great. Free flow of bottled water, hot water, tea, coffee and snacks are available in the lobby. Breakfast varies everyday. Well recommended.
This hotel is on a nondescript street with some shops and other buildings, but it is only a short two blocks or so walk from the Zocalo Center, the Cathedral and National Palace, where lots of stuff happens and reasonable tours might be arranged. My room was large, though the first one seemed unready (no towels) and perhaps they realized it, because without asking they moved me to another one with a balcony and great view. There were two large beds; unfortunately, no chair, just a bench from the desk, but it was fine. The bathroom had everything one would expect, toiletries, a hair dryer and good shower. I stayed at this hotel twice during the trip, as I was going to Acapulco for the weekend and left my large bag at the hotel. Upon my return, my room was a bit nicer, with one king bed and two chairs and a sitting table, but with no balcony and a view of the inside building courtyard. Not an enormous problem. The only problem was that the bathroom had what for some would be terrific, a tub/jacuzzi, but in order to get into it required mounting a step and then stretching deep down into the tub, which, for someone with slight mobility issues after lumbar surgery, was challenging, but I managed. If this is your situation, I would put a normal shower into the requirements when booking the hotel. My problem was (and this was prevalent throughout much of Mexico) that English, the international travel language -- not just for "ugly Americans," but for travelers from Europe, South America, Asia, etc. -- was non-existent to "so-so." There were a couple of clerks, if you were lucky and they were on duty, who spoke fairly good English, but when you're having issues, such as directions or taxi information to the airport, my 80 or so Spanish words had to suffice. And that's hard. I don't expect folks on the street to speak English, but at hotels, airports and train stations I do. If you're German or Japanese you probably don't speak Spanish, and you won't find many Mexicans who do. However, English has become a useful tool for travelers and I can't figure out why this is not mandatory at such an otherwise nice hotel. Besides the room, I have to commend the restaurant, which doesn't look so exciting, but, as I needed a meal relatively late and didn't want to go out, I was pleasantly surprised at the menu, and more importantly the taste. Plus, it was very moderately priced, as is most of Mexico. Also, I learned at the desk that for the return trip to the airport, the hotel has guaranteed taxi prices, which are almost 100 pesos ($5 or so) less than booking at the taxi desk at the airport. BTW, don’t presume all the taxi desks at the airport are competitive. Ask around and you might find that one is considerably cheaper than the other, and all, compared to what you might expect in the U.S. or Europe, are much more reasonable in Mexico City. So, I would definitely recommend this hotel, but would also recommend that the staff requirements include at least one fluent English speaker at each shift.…
Friendly and helpful staff made this 4 day trip special, great location and buffet breakfast. Rooms are simple but very clean. Free bottled water, snacks and hot beverages available in lobby. Thanks especially to Enrique, Anna, Veronica and Thelma (wonderful breakfast).
Safe, convenient location; helpful and friendly staff; very clean; excellent breakfast buffet with changing menu of hot/cold choices; hot beverages and snacks available in lobby; excellent value restaurant with 7th floor terrace where you can eat/drink from restaurant.
I stayed for four nights at this hotel in September of this year-2022-and it was very pleasant. The room was large, clean and serviced daily.Check-in was handled speedily and the staff at reception were friendly and helpful, even organising a taxi for me on the day I was leaving.I want to mention,in this regard, Jacqueline,Anna and Enrique. The location couldn't have been better-a short walk to the main square El Zocalo and very close to two metro stations.Breakfast was excellent each morning and I want to pay tribute to the cook Thelma and her staff Karina and Mayra.I want to mention also Miguel and especially Alan who was always cheerful, friendly and helpful. This is a great place to stay and I will definitely stay again when I return to Mexico city next year....10 out of 10.
Clean, peaceful place. Breakfast very good, eggs, quesadillas cooked to order. Very friendly staff, helpful and well trained. BEST Location to enjoy all the aztec and colonial treasures found in the historical center. Incredible restaurants and museums within walking distance. Safe taxis called for your trips. I have visited for many years and when I think MEXICO CITY I think Hotel Catedral
