The Iguana is a great place to stay, especially if you're feeling like slowing down and hang around for a while. The staff and hosts are like family, breakfast and facilities are high quality and there's always someone to go hiking with you. Rudy is the best, location is also good and the only problem is that it's so hard...

I stayed for 3 days and if I had more time I'd definitely spend it here!! The staff is great, knowledgeable and friendly... Everything was clean, comfortable beds, great common areas and hot showers with great water pressure... Anthony, Adrian and Martina are amazing, thank you guys for a great time!

Agree with the comments below - the people here are super friendly, the breakfasts are decent, the location is good and overall it's a good hostel. A few things let it down for us though: first, there's one(!) powerpoint in a 12 bed dorm. Disaster. Second, San Cristobal is FREEZING in winter (5 degrees Celsius when we were there) and there's...

Great folks. Awesome breakfast. Chilled atmosphere. Great location! The markets are super close. Ask the super friendly hostel workers for tips on what to do. (Ant offers a super cool walking tour of the surrounding area.)

The bathrooms and other shared facilities were filthy and always smelled bad while we were there. The bed in our private room was so uncomfortable. The owner was friendly, helpful, and accommodating, which was really nice. However, it seems like during the day, the hostel is staffed by "volunteers" so the day-to-day activities are not professionally managed and it shows....

Great hostel with amazing staff! Everyone is so helpful and has great recommendations where to go and what to see or even takes you to great local food places or out at night! The breakfast is always different, not just cereal and toast and sitting around the fireplace at night is perfect in case the temperature drops - highly recommended!...

This hostel has such a great vibe about it. The showers and kitchen and all that are great but what I think makes this place special is it has a real homely vibe about it. You can't really predict whether a night is gonna be chill or a bit more of a campfire shindig but it's pretty much great either...

Fun, great vibes, friendly people, relaxing spot from traveling/bus ride around the country Definitely making its way to the best hostel in the world! Love the pepper shrub and hammocks. I would really like having newer pots & pans and more shower rooms especially during peak season.

We absolutley loved this hostel, we arrived in the morning, when the room was not ready yet after a night bus and we had the best welcome ever, one of the staff members Anthony a.k.a legend prepared the best panckakes for us and right away made us feel like home. The breaky there in general is absolutley yummy. They do...

This was my first hostel ever, and I couldn't have asked for a better first-time experience. The place was nice, the staff was very warm, receptive and helpful. The rooms were good, and so were the beds. The common areas were great to be in, and it's well-located (near the local market, convenience stores and bars). HELL YEAH IGUANA

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Four years since opening, IGUANA HOSTEL is well known among backpackers for its family, chilled out and fun atmosphere. People come to the Iguana for two nights and they stay for two weeks... This is because Iguana Hostel can host only up to 27 people, so it's easy to make friends to share fun with, and we will always take good care of you. Our main asset is our staff: travellers on the road, who love making friends, and speak your language. The IGUANA HOSTEL is situated in a historic Barrio del Cerrillo, with a panoramic view from the terrace. The hostel is located near Santo Domingo a church surrounded and a colourful handcraft market, 2 blocks from the public market and only 7 minutes walk from the very heart of the city: la Catedral and el Parque Central. ... more   less
