I selected this hotel on the excellent reviews and it's location. I didn't want an overpriced all inclusive on the beach so this hotel ticked all the boxes. I was not disappointed. Upon check in, first impressions of hotel it had a funny damp smell and felt quite dark. However, I was checked in promptly and handed a free bottle of water. My request for a high floor room was granted. I was very pleased with the size of the room and it's facilities. The room was really spacious, modern with fridge, large screen TV, an LCD screen by the bed showing the hotel's offerings, which was a nice touch. The balcony was large with a view of downtown Cancun which caught the evening's sun. The bed was huge with loads of cushions and pillows and very comfortable. The bathroom was small but had a great shower. There was a nice area for tea/ coffee facilities and two bottles of water provided per day. After a long flight I slept like a log with no noise whatsover. The breakfast area was really nicely laid out, some mornings they were a little late opening which was stressful when you had an early pick up for a day trip. There was a good selection of breads, pastries, muffins, cerials, fruit and hot foods. The quality was not the best , apart from the bread which was amazing! I only used the pool area on the last day. It is a beautiful oasis, very relaxing with day beds and jacuzzis, really tranquil until they put the loud music on. Because of the high building, the pool area did not get much sun until late morning. It didn't bother me as I got the bus to the beach, without paying beach hotel prices. One of the best things about this hotel is it's location. I have no idea why people would pay a fortune to stay by the beach as it's so easy to get to on the bus that run almost constantly and takes about 15 minutes and costs about 50p. I walked one day, it did take two hours but it is possible. There are two shopping malls within walking distance, a very good supermarket across the road albiet a very dangerous road to cross with no crossing and a Walmart which was a bit of a further walk. There is also a great outdoor Mexican food court opposite the bus station, that the locals use. If you want to avoid the tourist trail. Another bonus most of the day tours pick up from this downtown hotel. The bus station is a 5 minute walk and if you want to do day trips to Coba, Playa De Carmen etc the Aldo bus station is about 15 minute walk. Don't pay for expensive tours that give you no time to see anything, I only discovered that buses go to these places on the last day and wish I had of known sooner. I had a fantantic stay, even though I was a guest at the start of the pandemic. I would certainly come to Cancun again and select this hotel.

For a downtown Cancun, this was a great option. We had a room with a balcony, the light was great. Smart Cancun is joined with Oh! by Oasis, sharing a great swimming pool that hosts live performances, and has affordable cocktails at the pool bar. The coffee shop on the side of the lobby is great and inexpensive, even more important - it is open 24 hours. Cons: The immediate area around the hotel is not great, but there is Las Americas mall 5-10 minutes walk and it’s great. The bus stop to go to the hotel zone is nearby, if you are in the mood for a lazy day on the beach. The window air con was super loud so we unplugged it as soon as we moved in, luckily it was not too hot. There was a bad smell from the pipes, the toilet flushes violently. The safe’s battery was dead when we got in so we called the housekeeping to change it. They came, promised to change it. We waited for half an hour and left, assuming they changed it when we were gone. At 3 am the safe started beeping non-stop. We had to call the reception again to remove the battery. They removed it but didn’t exchange the battery.

We stayed at the Smart Cancun by Oasis last year and we're really happy with the location as we are not beach people. We would come down for coffee at their coffee shop just off the lobby every morning and we're usually served by Gabby. She was friendly and the service was great. We returned to this hotel this January, a year later and Gabby not only remembered us from last time but amazing she remembered how we liked our coffee. The staff here all deserve *****

This hotel is great if you plan to go on a few excursions as it is the meeting point for many tour pickups from downtown hotels. Pool looks nice if a bit busy. Only issue was noise in room from hallway. If they put door sweeps on bottom of doors this would cut down the ambient hallway noise. I rolled up a towel and put it at the base of door to cut the noise. worked great.

Smart Cancún / Oh! Cancún are sister hotels run by the Oasis group. My wife and I have stayed at one of these hotels every year for the last several years. The best feature of either hotel is the professionalism of the staff. Not only are they very well trained in the art of hospitality but each staff member, from the front desk to housekeeping, seems happily committed to customer service. This makes for a welcoming atmosphere at all times while enjoying the property. The hotel is a solid 3.5 star that features an excellent and large pool area that is entirely secluded from the city that surrounds it, earning its name - urban oasis. The restaurant serves good food at competitive prices. The rooms are large and comfortable with exceptional symmetrical WiFi (40-90Mbps up and down) The area around the hotel has plenty of shopping, restaurants and services that are authentically Mexican. If you’re leaning towards a more cultural experience (read: not the Hotel Zone) that is big on value and comfort, then this is an excellent choice.

This was our 5th stay between the Oh! and Smart hotels. The hotel staff is incredible. The restaurant staff Jose, Ivan, and the hostess, etc., even to Hugo the lifeguard, from the restaurant to the pool, everyone is ready with a smile to serve & have a chat to put you at ease. The pool area is calm and restful, yet energetic in the late afternoon and evening, the space is visually relaxing, like a spa. We don’t even miss having the beach nearby. The peace is worth it. The wide shallow tubs are phenomenal. You can fill them with fresh water to your chosen temp and you don’t have to stew in others hot bath water. Just empty and refill. The food at both the buffet and pool bar is quite good. Very reasonably priced. The cafe is nice and I highly recommend capping your evening with a hot tea in the lobby before bed. Their specialty teas are delicious. Our favourite restaurant is just across Avenida Coba. But loads of great restaurants in walking distance. Easy walking distance to Chedraui (grocery/department store) and Walmart and Costco. Expect to pay about $5-$7 USD for a taxi back if you don’t want to lug packages to the hotel. Agree on the price before or you’ll pay more. Walk to the marketplace during the day, and the Parque Palampas at night. The locals sell crafts and souvenirs. It’s safe to walk. The area is highly patrolled.

This is an urban alternative to the strip. Located right in the heart of Cancuns finest dining it is a delightful experience. Staff is friendly, rooms were clean and modern. We were concerned about noise, but the rooms and hotel were exceptionally quiet even though they seemed quite full. If you want to experience real Cancun and still be quite safe, this may be a great starting point.

People at the front desk is very helpful and nice, I think particularly in David and Nazario who were very professional. I have to say the same for Brando and Isabel from the bar of the swimming pool, they do their best for you! Thanks a lot! The room was OK even if it was not so clean and to much noisy at any hour. Particularly BE CAREFUL with the tour desk “Viajes Caribe Maya” in this hotel! Never buy by them : finally it’s not cheaper (go directly to the places to buy, they make discount nearly every time). In case a part of the tour is avoid the desk will never give you the money back! They always say it’s not their fault. We had to buy another tour just next to the one avoided!!! Bye bye 200$!!

Personally I would avoid this place. We had a terrible experience. It’s on a very busy main road. You can constantly hear cars, motorcycles and sirens day and evening as the windows are useless. Only one place to eat, very limited and not great options, meat was very over cooked and the pasta was soggy. Breakfast again was limited. When in the hallway to the bedrooms there are missive gaps under the doors so you are able to hear everything from rooms and when in the rooms you can hear everything from the hallways. The bed had hairs in it. The bathroom hadn’t been cleaned. The balcony door didn’t lock. The balcony was covered in what we can only assume was bird poo. The ‘view’ was not a view.. it was roofs of other buildings.. and there were many many things wrong. We checked out the next day and left and went elsewhere. Shame as we were really looking forward to our holiday.
