We stayed at Playa Givota 4/21-25. We had a beautiful room on the third floor of the main building. The view was amazing; the hospitality was very friendly and welcoming. The birds were a joy constantly hearing them whistle (I really miss them now). The beach was gorgeous though not for swimming. Still we had our private beach. The restaurants...

My wife and I just returned from a trip to Isla Mujeres. We stayed in a very nice secluded apartment at Playa Gaviota. Elsewhere on this site is a rather disparaging review of Gaviota, but we found everything to be fine. Under new ownership, the staff was focused on insuring that our stay was enjoyable. We were met upon arrival,...

We stayed at Playa Gaviota at the end of June 2004, and since my husband is Mexican, I was not surprised at the carefree (or inattentive to some) attitude taken about "checking in" at Playa Gaviota. We did have to look around until we found someone to let us into our room which North Americans are not used to doing....

I had been going to Playa Gaviota for years - approximately 10 or more. Roman and Carmen had owned it for years. They are the most wonderful hosts you could ever want. The grounds are beautiful with the most gorgeous, private, secluded, quiet beach you could ever want. The two bungalow rooms ON the beach are my favorite because the...

I booked Gaviota through the local travel agent on the island. I got to Gaviota and it was abandonned. Noone was there. According to the locals the owner spends most of his time in Spain and leaves a man in charge of the hotel. The man comes and goes as he pleases, and decided to go to the beach the...

My husband and I enjoyed Isla Mujeres, but it wasn't like we thought it would be. Thinking we would get away from the crowds and tourism of Cancun, we chose Isla for out anniversary vacation. Of course, it IS high season but we never expected the crowds and traffic we found there. The stores and restaurants are quite expensive. We...

Even at twice the price this unpretentious hotel would be worth every penny for is super location and view alone. A nice private spot to unwind after a day's sightseeing. A diamond in the rough. Enjoy it before everyone else discovers it and you can't get in.

We recently spent our honeymoon in this quaint, clean, very private property. A unique ocean front location that features a breath taking view of the ocean with quick and easy access to town. Definately recommended.

“Make sure you put some Dollarama stuff in your luggage - pencils, markers, colouring books, simple toys - and then pay a visit to the Little Yellow Schoolhouse. A highlight for our kids to hand that stuff over, watch the Schoolhouse kids eyes light up, then play together for an hour. There's also a small chapel futher north and east of that - on the eastern water almost - that made Sunday very peaceful and reflective. You don't need to be a church goer to enjoy the music and devotion, but it helps to give perspective to your visit, while leaving a little extra in the collection plate if you know what I mean...”
