The Ixchel Beach Hotel is celebrated for its roomy and comfortable accommodations with scenic views, though some guests note the decor could use an update. Exceptional service is a hallmark here, with staff earning accolades for their professionalism and attentiveness. Situated near Playa Norte, the hotel's location is ideal for exploring nearby attractions.
Amenities like beach loungers and suite kitchens are popular, but additional on-site dining options are desired. Opinions on value vary, with some finding the pricing steep. Cleanliness is consistently commended, but occasional loud parties have impacted the serene atmosphere for some visitors.

Detailed Reviews
We decided to give all-inclusive a break and ended up renting a two-bedroom suite at Ixchel. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean, the view was outstanding and the service was tremendous. Proximity to local eateries, entertainment and shops was outstanding, and we didn’t feel “obligated” to get “our money’s worth” from a buffet. Outstanding service from Martha and Faustino at the front desk of Building One, and the same from Charley, Joel and others at Kalak (the poolside bar/restaurant), as well as Oscar, who managed the towel exchange with a smile. Everyone was quick with a smile and a pleasant greeting. Clean bottled water was a plus, and so was the kitchenette, where we prepared quick snacks and cocktails. We will be back!

We have been to the island many times and this was our 1st Stay at Ixchel. From now on we will only be staying here! It is a short walk or taxi ride from the ferry. When we reached the hotel Toni at the front desk was so nice he greeted us by saying welcome home and that's exactly what I feel like Isla is to me! I want to tell you a little bit about Toni. He is a wonderful nice man Who takes his time to get to know the guest and make us feel welcomed. He is a wealth of knowledge and if he doesn't know something he will find the answer out for you! I enjoyed seeing Toni at the desk every day We would always stop and have a nice little talk. He even helped me look into booking my next trip for Ixchel. Which we are now booked for another week in December! Everyday we would go to Enjoy the beautiful beach and impeccable service given to us by Eloy and Joel. Eloy takes this time as well to speak with the Guest ask us how our day was what our plans are and he seems to know what we like to drink. He is right on top of service And is always a pleasure to see on the beach. He keeps the beach nice and clean and everything in order. We are also able to order Room service from The restaurant on site. Eloy would deliver it. The food from Kalak was delicious and the Bloody Mary's were perfect and really nice to enjoy on the balcony. Marguerite in the little restaurant near the pool is wonderful she is such a sweet woman! We had rented a one bedroom oceanfront condo with the wrap-around porch. The sunsets were absolutely beautiful and the morning view so so tranquil. I even enjoyed the boats that would pull up and play music. Our housekeeping staff works very hard to keep everything in perfect order even if we did not use areas of the condo You could tell it was cleaned daily. We even came back a few nights to be surprised with towel animals. You cannot beat the location of this hotel it is in walking distance of everything not even a 1/2 a block away from all the restaurants. To have the beach chairs and umbrellas waiting for you in the morning is a wonderful thing. Everybody work so hard at this establishment to make sure your vacation is beyond perfect. And I'd like to let you know the BIG part of the reason why we already booked again is because of the staff here! Thank you so much for hiring such amazing people they honestly do become your family. I cannot wait to see them all again in December!! Thanks for everything Ann and Scott

We were pleasantly surprised by how wonderful this hotel ended up being. We traveled the week after Christmas with our two young daughters (age 5 and 2). The rooms were large and very clean, the staff (with one exception) were very helpful and friendly, and they went out of their way to make sure everything went smoothly for us. (Including scheduling the daily maid service around our toddler's naps). It is about a 2 minute walk from Hidalgo street- the main pedestrian street on the island, and there are many shops/ street performers/restaurants where the food was good to very good. (We especially enjoyed Lola Valentina's). We ended up eating at the resort for lunch every day, and the food Kalak was better than we expected. I got two massages from the small spa in front of the hotel, which were fantastic and very reasonably priced.
The only con was that the beach got VERY crowded. (Granted, we were there on a very popular week, but it's worth noting, and the only factor that would probably make us look elsewhere for ou next trip. Not super relaxing from about 12-5. The pools were a great alternative though).
The hotel arranged a transfer for us to and from the airport though a company called AGI. It was convenient, but apparently there are less expensive options, and I imagine that with a little research one could hail a taxi and buy ferry tickets without hiring a company to do it for you.
Most of the restaurants do not take credit cards, so I would recommend coming with plenty of cash. There are several ATMs nearby the hotel.

Just returned from Isla Mujeres and Ixchel Beach Hotel (my second stay at this hotel on the island), and once again, I cannot speak highly enough of this place! First of all, the location cannot be beat—pretty much a block away from the “main drag”, and by that I mean an adorable stretch of outdoor restaurants and shops that never make you question whether you’re in Mexico or not. And the beach is truly one of the most beautiful in Mexico, calm with crystal clear blue water and white sand. As for the hotel property itself, it’s clean and the staff are friendly; however, the people that make Ixchel Hotel a place I will return to yet again are the guys that work at the Kalak bar/restaurant poolside, along with serving the beach. Chepo in particular was a joy every day—always smiling, upbeat, checking in regularly and getting us anything we needed. Chepo is the best. Give this guy a raise!!! Also of note that were fantastic and friendly pool/beach side servers were Charley and Joel. Thanks, guys, for helping to make our stay even more memorable!!! -Danny & Timi

This resort is small and mighty! It has the perfect location to the best beach on the island, Playa Norta. Best location to “restaurant row”, just down the street a block. The pools are on the cooler side, but we rarely used them as the ocean was spectacular!
We booked a 1 bedroom suite with a standard room. They were able to have both rooms together and they opened the adjoining door for us. The balcony with the suite was fantastic, it was a north facing room, but still had a great view of the ocean. The king bed was fantastic! Just a standard room was on the smaller side with no balcony but paired great with the suite. Both rooms were very clean, cleaned daily and refreshed towels. Like many hotels, you didn’t have to have towels or bed linens refreshed daily to conserve resources, but they did offer more if needed.
We didn’t use the kitchen in the suite expect for the fridge, but was plenty stocked with several small appliances and kitchenware to cook meals if desired.
We spent much of our time on the beach. I read reviews saying that chairs where free, but we had a different experience. Leandro approached us from the small restaurant/bar just to the right as you are looking at the resort from the beach. We would be eating and drinking anyhow so it wasn’t a big deal. He was very attentive, but not pushy. Friendly and had a good time with us. We seemed to eat and drink more and more each day and pay less.
We eventually did have an issue with the resort staff not liking that we were ordering from the small bar/restaurant and they told us that our party of 5 had to split into 2’s because of social distancing even though we were all in the same room/ traveling together. We talked to the hotel staff and manager and after that, we didn’t have an issue.
We will be back for sure! We’ve been to all the major hot spots in Mexico and Isla Mujeres was by far the BEST!

Have traveled to Isla Mujeres numerous times the past 5-6 years, favorite hotels are PA and Izla Hotel - first time at Ixchel Beach. We booked 5+ months in advance, and were very excited to get a room here :-)
Loved the location and beach area. Staff here is wonderful, everyone is helpful and friendly. Traveled with a friend and we booked one of their smaller double rooms, #405.
This room layout has a long hallway from the exterior door, that opens into the bathroom sink area. Shower/toilet are in a separate room. The shower was huge and recently updated. The bedroom also has a door, great for privacy, but the bedroom door opens inside the bedroom in front of the right closet door where the safe is located. It was difficult to see and access the safe without completely closing the bedroom door.
This room has a partial view of the ocean but no balcony as advertised. Beds and bedding were very comfortable, TV reception was great with plenty of programs in English. Coffee and large purified water dispenser was available in the bedroom.
The pools were a bit smaller than expected. The larger pool is completely shaded by early afternoon (this was late January) and the smaller pool has no area for lounge chairs except the few that are actually in the pool. With the increased presence of the beach vendors on all of Playa Norte, a great pool can be a nice reprieve, but not really an option during our stay.
Biggest disappointment was the lack of water pressure in the shower. Having stayed at various IM hotels over the years I have pretty low expectations, but this was the worst I've experienced on the island. Even had maintenance check it to no avail. There are loads of reviews on TA that describe excellent water pressure at Ixchel, even in this specific room, not sure why we had such a different experience. I definitely had higher expectations based on all the reviews that mention it.

I would highly recommend this hotel. We stayed in one of the rooftop suites and had the absolute best time! The room was beautiful, plenty of space, comfortable beds, amazing patios, a kitchen, and phenomenal cleaning services. The staff were wonderful, they were able to cook food separately to accommodate allergies, they bought foods that they were out of to make sure we could order them the next day, and they were so attentive to us. Plus, everyone always had a smile, which made it feel homey. Right on a beautiful white sand beach with unbeatable sunsets and unmatched service... what more could we ask for? We will definitely be back. I specifically want to thank Joel, Chepo, Idania, Pablo, and Mauricio for making this trip so special. We know this are strange times and the staff took every precaution to keep us safe and were extremely diligent about health, safety, and cleanliness being of the utmost importance.

Ixchel has the best overall combination of attributes for a stay in Isla Mujeres. On the best beach, a block away from the start of Hidalgo St (Main street of restaurants in the Playa Norte area), walkable to everything in Playa Norte (including ferry but with luggage 80 peso 2 minute cab ride), good food and drink service right to your beach chair, and super friendly staff (Pepe at front desk was so fun to visit with), and large, comfortable condo style rooms with large balconies and ocean/beach views. There also is a golf cart rental just outside the hotel (1,000 pesos for all day) if you want to explore.

The hotel is well situated on the north beach of Isla Mujeres. Every trendy cafe, bar or restaurant is within 1 or to block walking distance.
Very convenient.
Unfortunately, the actual beach sands has been swallowed tremendously by the ocean; so much that there's only about 20-25 feet left of sand to sunbathe before the waves reach you. Some like this due to being literally on the water others don't due to having nearly no space left between sunbathing chairs.
So these pics of the sand beach are falsely advertised.
Nonetheless, the turquoise waters makes up for the lack of sand beach space. There's an awesome little tiki restaurant towards the right of the hotel looking towards the ocean(forgot the name) but this place serves great fresh seafood with awesome drinks. They also have live music during the afternoons.
To the right of this restaurant, there's a little palapa/hud tiny bar with bar stools overlooking the ocean with a loud speaker playing any kind of music you request but most importantly great drinks as well(highlyrecommended).
Both pools on the hotel are on the smaller side & at times they were both crowded. I guess we came on an unusual peak period. We stayed in a 1 king bedroom suite on the 2nd floor of tower 2 with a rap-around balcony, our room was clean and charming. The only discomfort was the bed, it felt very firm(no bounce).
I guess hotels in México are known for firm tough beds.
We did ordered room service a couple of times & we weren't pleased with the highly over priced food overall.
The food took over 45mnts to arrive & it arrived cold. At times I felt like there wasn't enough personnel or possibly a lack of good staff coordination for guests request..
It also seemed like there's no effort in presentation or quality in food flavor. In my opinion, you're better off eating outside the hotel.
Overall my take is; It's a decent hotel a bit over priced for lodging with great location to culinary/nightlife options, mediocre pricy food and firm bedding.

We have stayed at this hotel a few times and are convinced this is the best location, price, and amenities for your stay in Isla Murjeres. Located on Playa Norte, the water is always crystal clear. You do not have to deal with seaweed and every time is such a a relaxing experience. The hotel is in walking distance to everything you need - food, drinks, and shopping! The staff are very friendly and accommodating.
There is one person I want to mention that makes our stay the most memorable and that is Eloy. He always takes care of us on the beach. One time my husband forgot his razor and Eloy went into town and brought one back for him. He will go the extra mile to make you feel like you are taken care of.
I have learned something every time about the rooms and will always book at least an ocean suite view. It was nice to pick up some huevos and have the ability to cook some breakfast if we wanted to because of the furnished kitchen. We really want to experience the penthouse suite and had booked that pre-COVID for our honeymoon, but had to cancel during COVID. We are looking to experience that on our next trip and it seems to have great value if you travel with friends.
The food is good. We love the ceviche and guacamole amongst others, this is a nice treat when you are relaxing on the beach. Try a michelada too!
There is one thing I wish they would reconsider and that is the time staff are allowed to set up lounge chairs for their guests. It is no earlier than 10:00 am and ends at 5pm. If you want a good spot, you need to take a towel until set up time unless you want to pay. Other than that, this is our go to place to stay in Isla Murjeres. It checks all the boxes for us and we highly recommend it!
