This is a lovely historic hotel - beautiful building with shady courtyard and lovely swimming pool. The rooms are lovely, large, airy and cool. Bathrooms are spotlessly clean. The staff were wonderful, really helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Location is great - minutes...More
My stay at the Casa del Balam was most enjoyable! The room was huge and had everything I would want in it. The TV worked fine. The refridgerator was a godsend. The tub felt nice. It was the first stay on my vacation, and I...More
I stayed here last week on my way elsewhere, but would return to Casa del Balam Hotel and Merida in a heart beat. My room was charming and spacious with nice tile floors, white cotton bedspreads and good a/c. The pool was a nice relief...More
Recently spent 5 nights in Casa del Balam. The room I had was a corner 4th floor unit that was great! Large bright room with a King bed, bar fridge that had to unlocked, ample storage space for clothes and a good size bathroom.

See answers provided below. If the questions raised are a major concern I suggest rethinking. This is a lovely, comfortable, clean and friendly hotel with all the character of a renovated Mexican mansion. It's not a Ritz or a Four Seasons, but we'd certainly return. Also, the location is unbeatable and noise was not an issue in our corner room in an upper floor.

We did not pay to have breakfast included, and I'm glad! We ate at the hotel restaurant the first day, but found lots of better and less expensive places nearby. Our favorite was Cafeteria Pop which had better coffee and a full egg breakfast (like huevos rancheros, for example) with juice or fruit, coffee, and toast for just around 50 pesos (less than $3). Another good place was right across the street Gourmet Cafe Molina, I think it was-- it seems like it's a chain however. Nevertheless, the coffee was better there, too. The mole enchiladas were very tasty. Avoid at all costs the Cuban place on the corner of Calle 55 and Calle 62--worst coffee ever! They have a huge roaster going in the window, but that's just for show. The coffee tasted like Nescafé, the glasses were filthy, and the service was snarky. Many places within a block or two offer specials for breakfast, so it's easy to go out and try different restaurants each day.
