The Fives Beach Hotel & Residences comes highly recommended for its cleanliness, with guests frequently applauding the pristine state of rooms and common areas. However, some visitors have voiced concerns regarding room odors and maintenance issues. The location is mostly celebrated for its easy access to beaches and shopping, despite occasional complaints about mosquitoes.
While the atmosphere strikes a balance between calm and vibrant, the noise level can sometimes be bothersome. Service is praised for staff friendliness, but marred by inconsistency and reservation challenges. Moreover, guests are often disappointed by hidden charges diminishing the perceived value of their stay.

Detailed Reviews
Our family vacation was on the 2nd week of February (only adults). We rented a 2 bedroom suite (was located in Villa 16, new section).
For a family vacation for even "double couple" type vacations, this place is perfect. Their setup is quite intelligent for multi-room needs. Each multi-room suite has an initial walk-in entrance where 2 or 3 doors will give you access to 1) the master suite (with kitchen, dining space, living room space and of course a separate master bedroom with in suite bathroom), 2) 1 or 2 full "hotel type" rooms for the other guests. This setup provides intimacy for all guests (and parents..).
Room Quality is very good.
Grounds: The resort grounds are impeccably maintained and the nature is mature
Restaurants; They have a very good variety of restaurants (from International, French, Italian, Mexican, Sushi, Thai, Mediterranean, etc..). All very good, but we did have the best experience at the Italian and Thai restaurants. Awesome is the only word that comes to mind.
Beach: For us, this is the low point of the resort. Beach itself is narrow. Sand is good, white and soft. All good. There is enough umbrellas and beach furniture is fine. Problem is they have squeezed in in tight rows all the chairs which makes the experience less enjoyable. Also, locals are allowed on the hotel beach (maybe beach is public, ok), but they were allowed to install gazebos and tents!! This was a first and an eyesore. Don't understand this one. Also, about 100 feet out, they have installed large bags to break waves. I understand they want to prevent shore/beach erosion, but at low tide, it is another eyesore.
Service: Impeccable. No less. Everyone, I mean everyone is looking out for you to be satisfied, at all locations of the hotel/resort... all the way to the shuttle drivers.
All that being said, very satisfied and will return (even with the beach less than perfect). Everything else at the hotel was simply perfect.

Recently came here to escape from covid woes because my family and I needed a serious vacation! Upon arriving at the resort we were asked to walk through a device that looked similar to and airport body scanner and sanitizing spray came out of the machine and was asked to turn around so we can fully be sanitized. Our luggages were also sanitized by what i assumed looked like a machine blowing hot steam to kill any virus.
Check in was easy peasy and we were received by a concierge named Claudia who would attend us if we needed help. Reservations were needed every night for the restaurant and needs to be made by concierges . We got the penthouse suite apartment, which was by the way AMAZING. Full kitchen, fridge, freezer, stove, sink, dishwasher, microwave.. everything. Absolutely loved it. They also provided a baby crib, bottle sterilizer, baby monitor and bottle warmer upon request. Absolutely beautiful room.
Room at the pools to social distance.
Passion fruit margaritas are amazing. Mezcalita drink from the gin bar is a must. Mestizo restaurant was our favorite out of all the restaurants, pad thai from koh thai was delicious and mushroom truffle risotto from the italian. Burgers from the beach were one of the best ive ever had and hotdogs, all bread freshly baked in hotel! The tacos by the main pool damn delicious, and everything on the menu from the restaurant next to the burger stand is a GO!
I was running out of baby wipes, sunblock, after sun aloe and diapers and Claudia helped me out so much and helped me get these items that were inaccessible to me. There is no gift shop at the moment.
Breakfast was ok to me, but room service breakfast was delicious for an additional $3.50 charge. Fernando at mestizo bar was absolutely wonderful to us and so warm. Thank you for your service!
Claudia a very special thank you to you and everything youve done for us!
Thank you guys for making me absolutely safe during this pandemic

We visited in the second week of December for my daughter's third birthday. We stayed in one of the penthouse rooms, we also had 2 balconies with beautiful views of the pools and the trees wrapping around.
We booked through our Prestige Membership and although the resort is no longer owned by Karisma, we felt just as welcome as we have in the past in home resorts, mostly due to the fantastic service of our butler Adan! He was so accommodating, always making sure that we have everything we need and more! He was always available and ready to help. We felt a little under the weather toward the end of our stay and he kept checking on us and asking if we need soup or anything else. On the way to the airport my husband forgot his phone in the shuttle and didn't realize it until we were at the terminal. We texted Adan and he immediately got a hold of the shuttle driver and my husband's phone was returned to him in less than 15 minutes! We would definitely consider returning to this resort because of this high level of service.
Also, the grounds are beautiful, the beach is nice and clean, plenty of pools, there is a wooden bridge built through the jungle that runs through the middle of the resort - perfect for midday or evening walks (some said they saw monkeys, but we didn't). The restaurants are really good - only 2 buffets, everything else was a la carte with fantastic options to choose from. One of the nights (I think Friday) they have a Mexican Street Food presentation at the courtyard with some local vendors selling souvenirs and a performance - definitely a must do. Spa is beautiful, we both got massages and enjoyed them a lot. There is a children's entertainment center available, we only visited it briefly but it looked clean and nice and the children were engaged in the activity performed. We also went to Casa De Rosa and enjoyed the cooking show and the authentic atmosphere.
Altogether a great visit. Thanks again The Fives team and Adan!

My daughter wanted the the American and Indian Wedding at the resort. The Fives is all inclusive resort but as soon as they find out its wedding then they start to charge exorbitantly for everything. They do not allow anything coming in from outside not even bunch of flowers for the ceremony ! they will charge you exorbitant amount for bunch of flowers or any items needed (ie mic rental) , Venue and dinner that follows at extra charge. So beware !!!!
It's hard to find Indian priest. There's one by Bernado who is Hare Krisha- ISCON disciple but didn't seem to know much. He was saying "Om sah na bhawatu" mantra only. For the phera he forgot to join hands of the couple before going around the fire and read something from the book. His charges were outrageous for watered down ceremony. If you point it out to him he would say that's the way it is in "Hare Krisha - ISCON" which is hog wash !!! Should have gone to YouTube and just done it ourselves at least all the mantra read would have been correct.
Do your research into all these details before you book the room. We booked the room first as they kept pressuring us to book as soon as possible as it will fill up. There were lots of rooms available while at our stay.
Caution The beach venues are very windy and unpredictable weather ! Also beware of the kitchen option. No pots and pans or plates and glasses.

Dear 723meit, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We offer our sincere apologies for the areas and services where we fell short of your expectations. Our specialized wedding team offers all the services and essentials to our guests celebrating their wedding with us; these are according to the wedding package selected. If our clients wish to add external services, there is a vendor fee that is explained and considered within our hotel policies. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have had during your preparations. While your daughter's wedding package did include a non-denominational minister, we are very sorry to read that the priest you hired externally was not of your liking. As per our amenities for rooms with kitchen, kindly know that whenever our guests request utensils, these are gladly provided by our housekeeping members if available. We apologize if this was not informed to you. Thank you once again for your valuable feedback. Your comments will be used constructively; ensuring we make every experience as close to perfection. We hope to have an opportunity to host you in the near future for a stay that truly surpasses your expectations. Regards, Management Team The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences

This property is not a safe location for families or anyone who wants a secure, friendly environment during their stay in Mexico. I would not recommend.
It started with a waiter spilling milk all over my wife’s lap, without apologizing, and it is ending with us determined to warn anyone who will listen to never give this place any business.
The hotel used the recent hurricane delta as an excuse to skimp on services, ignore guests, and cut corners for days on end. It was somewhat understandable before and during the event; however, they continued to use it as an excuse for anything and everything several days later. Fortunately, the hurricane was not the catastrophe they first anticipated, but that didn’t stop this hotel from using it to take complete advantage of their guests by refusing to provide any of the services we paid for.
We tried to call the front desk at 10pm one night during our stay and they purposely disconnected the call over and over again. I walked the half mile back to the lobby and the teenager they leave at the front desk all night, with no manager or adults on duty, confirmed someone on their team intentionally disconnected our calls. He refused to say who or why. If we had a medical emergency, they clearly wouldn’t be there to help or respond. We called again the next morning at 8am, and sure enough, still no manger anywhere on duty at this “luxury 4 star” resort. No adults in the building, no professionals in charge.
It does not surprise us at all to read other guests have been injured here (see other reviews) with zero assistance from the staff. If things go wrong, you’ll be all on your own at this “luxury resort”.
The hotel will reply here with another condescending and snarky comment (as you can see from the other critical reviews). Instead of putting so much effort into these tone deaf replies, they should properly staff the hotel, hire a general manager who puts costumers first, create a safe environment for their guests, and provide the services the hotel repeatedly lies about providing on all these travel websites.
You work hard for your money. Find another luxury resort who consistently meets their obligations, promises, and fulfills the guest contract both parties agreed to at check-in. We met our end of the agreement to pay for their services. They did not meet their end of that commitment.
Spend your money where you are appreciate, satisfied, and most importantly safe.

Dear ToneLoc71, Thank you for sharing the experience of your recent stay with us. First of all, we are deeply sorry for the aforementioned milk incident and if our team member did not apologize at the moment. It will be very helpful to have more details to identify on the situation, however we will investigate and reinforce our customer service with the all our wait staff. We understand that no guest wish to experience a Hurricane while on vacation. It is with great regret that we did not exceed your expectations under these circumstances and we would like to point a few aspects to be considered: Mexico´s Constitution does not allow hiring people under 18 years old, is not legal. Although some of the staff seem young, you can be sure that our front desk clerk is not a teenager. As for reference, we did have an emergency brigade that stayed overnight to attend our guests during the event, including the majority of our Managment staff. On the othe side, people that have experienced hurricanes before, understands that the contingency is not only before and during the event, but also after, due to the consecuences of the damages that this could made. We regret that we did not make a full recovery immediately thereafter and some of our services were affected more than expected however the safety and protection of our guests come first. We have received many reviews congratulating us in how the Hotel and the hard work of our team, managed the situation (as you can see from other reviews), however, we appreciate your helpful feedback pointing out any service that may have room for improvement to optimize our future guests' stay and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you on another circumstances. Very nice hotel, with great food! We stayed in a one bedroom suite in Villa 7. All of the villas are either pool facing or outward (walking paths, jungle, etc.) facing. We had a pool facing unit and it was beautiful! The suites have a full kitchen (no dishes, pots/pans, or siverware). With that being said, the only items we used in the kitchen were the refrigerator and the coffee maker. The dining room table was a beautiful glass one, along with a white, leather like sectional sofa in the living room area. The unit had two balconies - one off the dining room and one off of the bedroom.
The food at all of the restaurants was great. If you are wanting to eat at one of the restaurants which requires reservations (Thai, Italian), you will want to make your reservations when you arrive. The non-reservation restaurants fill up quickly and typically had about an hour wait at peak dinner times. The Friday night Mexican night in the plaza was wonderful! A lot of choices, but a little difficult to find a seat somewhere and utensils to eat with.
The beach was maintained beautifully, but was difficult finding beach loungers if you didn't get out there before 9am. With the size of the hotel, they should add more beach loungers.

A lot of choices, but a little difficult to find a seat somewhere and utensils to eat with.
The beach was maintained beautifully, but was difficult finding beach loungers if you didn't get out there before 9am. With the size of the hotel, they should add more beach loungers.

Highly recommend! 1. they have a great food, this is the first time i have ever been on a trip and did not leave the resort! I think they had at least 10 restaurants, you only needed reservations for 2 of them! No buffets for me! Drinks where excellent, i had mojitos by the pool everyday.
2. The staff is amazing. They are all so friendly and sincere. The service was amazing. When you would go to a restaurant they ask you before you even sit down if you have any food allergies. I am gluten sensitive and i really appreciated that!!! And yes they have gluten free bread and pasta !
3. The grounds are great, very jungley, loved looking for wild animals in the trees!
4. The resort was very clean! They constantly checked the pool ( i hung out by the adult pool) and dishes everywhere were cleaned Immediately.
5. We started off in a basic room. Ground floor. It was actually quite noisey. The room itself was decent, seemed like it had maybe bin refurbished, something were new, some were old. On the 4th night we upgraded to the penthouse, was a reasonable price. This was the same style room, but overall much better, and now bigger with a kitchen living room, second bathroom and roof top patio complete with jacuzzi.... i recommend up grading your room if in your budget, worth it.
6. The white sand beach. Overall i only went to the beach to hit up the ceviche restaurant, the sand and the water are nice, but it is quite busy and small. The sand bags are a bit of an eye sore but make for nice calm waters.
OVERALL i do think this is a resort best suited for couples, i thought the average age was 30’s 40’s which was great for me. There was also tons of families Who seemed to have a good time just not as good as those with out kids. Its a big resort, there is something for everyone!

We stayed here for Christmas and new year. We were put in block 5 which to be fair was pretty central but the room looked very tired. Was cleaned regularly but never looked that clean because it needed redecorating. The bathroom needed a few hooks to hang wet towels up after a shower but as there wasn’t any we found we was having to leave them on the floor so we got new towels every day ! Which really wasn’t needed. As many people are saying the booking of restaurants is dreadful. You can’t get booked in to the Italian or the Thai very easily we only managed once in each in 11 days stay and that was only because we took a 9.30 booking on Christmas Day at the Italian and it was so cold In There they came over with a blanket for me ! Food was ok but I really think the best restaurant was “the brassiere “. Lovely food and brilliant service both breakfast and evening meal. All staff in there were great ( especially the lovely lady making the omelettes each morning ) and Rudolfo (he was there New Year’s Eve but also he was in the sea olive !) I must admit the English are very much in the minority there and at times we were overlooked ( waited 20 mins at the pool bar whilst all the men pushed in ! But a good barman would know who’s next ! No ladies first !) the pool was lovely but be prepared to get up at 6.30 in the mornings to get a bed ! People put towels down then never come back very annoying and there’s no system to stop this. When we complained we was told there’s beds on the beach ! Fine if you want to be in the shade or everything sandy. The pool bar waitress service was very good and a big thank you to araceli cutz for being the best around. After two drinks she knew what you wanted and if she saw you without a drink she would be straight over. A real gem she was always so cheerful a great asset to the fives. Also Guadalupe was brilliant how hard does that young lady work at the pool during the day and then she served us still smiling at the gin bar !!! Was a little annoyed that there was no melon liquor so a couple of cocktails I fancied I couldn’t have and they run out of blue caraco but that did come in but not very good for a hotel to run out of drinks ! Also no tonic water in the 1920 bar new year eves.
Also they had a Mexican night with stall holders which I found a little stressful as if you dared look at the stalls they were on you which I don’t like also extremely overpriced. All in all it was a ok holiday nothing special which was a shame as we had high hopes but when we booked it it was a karrisma hotel and then it changed hands so maybe teething problems but I don’t think so. It seemed to me they were all over the prestige customers and they got preferential treatment with there butlers running around them taking all the bookings for the two restaurants that needed booking. But I would also like to thank Atenas for being lovely and helping us out on a couple of times with bookings and when she saw us she always had a cheery hello. Mexico was lovely though.

My experience at the Five Beach and Residence was far below what we expected. We booked a 2 bedroom penthouse, I expected a nice view at the least. Our rooftop view was of the workers parking lot and workers coming in and being searched prior to their shift. When you stand on the hot tub deck our next door patio view was covered in shattered glass. The lights on the rooftop did not work which was very unsafe for all the shattered glass seen around the property. The hot tub did not stay plugged, at times the jets would not work and water continuously leaked out of the bottom and through the pipes. The kitchen was leaking water and the ceiling was falling apart. We called to let them know, they came and did a sloppy job patching it up and left ceiling residue and paint all over the stove and floor. The TV and AC did not work, front desk and maintenance did not know how to fix or who to contact to fix. My biggest concern is that we were on the 4th floor without a working elevator. Not once were we asked at check in if anyone was handicap or ok with going up 4 floors every day because the elevator will not work during the stay. Not only do I have terrible knees but with the bad rainy weather my friend slipped down the stairs causing back pain. I was very disturbed with how many times the workers came barging in our rooms, we would be sitting in the living room or gathering our stuff to leave and a random worker would barge in without knocking, we would ask if they needed something and they would shake their head no and run of. The phones ring nonstop, we figured quickly they were just calling to make sure their workers did their job (cleaned the room, fixed the ceiling etc.) and not actually concerned about our stay so we unplugged them. Due to the recent hurricane/storm they experienced extensive damage to the property so every morning 7am they started banging on the walls and floor, dragging chairs around and making very unpleasant noise, I asked the workers to please keep it down and they laughed at me. It was nice to have a kitchen but if there are no towel, cups, plates, utensils or dish soap there is no point to having a kitchen. Room service was supposed to be available 24 hours but they only time I got through was when I let the phone ring over 20 times. All that aside the beach is a 10 min walk from your room and its a good drive out of the location to get to the main road. Also don't let them fool you by their great communication prior to your arrival, it all stops once you arrive.

Dear Icejap420, Thank you for sharing your review with us. We regret not meeting your expectations, althoug with the unfortunate climatic event experienced we did offer you the reserved penthouse category, we apologize if the surroundings or the view of workers restoring the rest of the terraces did not meet what you expected. All our guests should be attended with an unmatched level of service however we are very sorry if this was not your experience. As additional information, our kitchen utensils are placed in the room upon request. We appreciate your feedback and comments which will be discussed thoroughly for actions to be taken in order to prevent your experience from repeating in the future. We hope to have the opportunity of welcoming you again under better circumstances. Regards, Management Team The Fives Beach Hotel & Residences

+1
The Fives resort is a gorgeous property with a rainforest-like setting. The property in Playa Del Carmen is outside the hotel zone so its a little less crowded and more quiet. Food was great each time and reservations are usually required for dinner. The atmosphere for dinner is very "adult" so don't show up in t-shirts and street wear. Due to Covid, some places were limited but the resort as whole is taking sanitation very serious. From the time you arrive your bags are sprayed and you room goes through a rigorous cleaning process. Every host ensures you clean your hands before entering to dine. Masks are required throughout the property. Entertainment is limited but there was live music and a mariachi band a few nights. There are great activities available for families on or off site. On Beach days you can find Jet ski and Parasailing activities or just relax in a Bali bed. Giant chess/checkers boards outside, tennis courts, basketball, or grab a hammock and just relax. Off site Emotions Native Park is about 20 mins from the resort. You can enjoy ATV riding, zip lining, and swimming in a Cenote. A few employees deserve commendations at the resort for the exemplary service. Angel and Alberto with the front desk staff, Mario in Tours/Excursions, the concierge team for the birthday decorations, and Mr. Reyes in the contact center sales. All provided great service and should be rewarded.

Most restaurants are included, but it is difficult to get into the best restaurants They don't take reservationsat at any of the restaurants and it is not unusual to wait for several hours to get into the best ones.
They have 2 buffets Flavors and Brasserie Grill. While I was there both were open for all 3 meals: B, L, D all days; however, other restaurants had different open days and meal times.
