The hotel and service were fabulous beginning to end. Rooms are spacious, clean and pleasant. The service was amazing all the way around; staff is basically trained to always say "yes" and make anything possible (within reason) for your visit or meal. Food was consistently excellent in flavor and preparation with a wide variety of selections available. We ate at most all of the restaurants there and were hard pressed to pick a favorite since all were good. Activities for kids of all ages were abundant - golf, tennis, jet skis, sea bobs, kayaks, archery, gym, spa - you name it. While I agree with other comments about some of the costs being on the high side, it's worth it since the quality of the experience is top notch. Would recommend staying in one of the rooms by the beach. Even though more expensive, that's where the action is; otherwise it's a short golf buggy ride (or bike) from main lobby area to get there.

We were excited to return to Banyan Tree Mayakoba for a stay in one of their new rooftop sunset lagoon villas. The photos on their website looked amazing but reality was even better. The clean, modern design of the two-story villa was so inviting and relaxing. The heated pool on the second floor was a real treat but we did not realize that there was also an outdoor jacuzzi and rain fall shower on the first level. We loved all the water elements and could barely tear ourselves away from the villa to explore the resort. We had excellent, attentive service from Andy and Monica who were the butlers assigned to our villa. Both of them checked in on us to see if we needed anything and helped us with dinner reservations, bringing extra coat hangers to our room, arranging in-room dining, and helping us during check out. They were always there for us and always cheerful and welcoming. The resort is stunning and you can spend hours walking, riding bikes, and exploring the extensive grounds. We can’t wait to return next year!

The hotel and staff were absolutely amazing. Our room was on the beach (highly recommend that location) and had our two children with us. Anyone with young kids knows that traveling with them can at times be stressful but staying at Banyan Tree made it extremely relaxing. I can’t express enough how wonderful everyone there was…. We appreciated their kindness and help through our entire stay so much. Thank you! Regina, Rene, Jesus, Nara, and everyone else…. Thank you.

We just got back from our week-long stay at Banyan Tree for Spring Break. We traveled with our 3 kids (9,6,4). We absolutely loved the hotel and would stay there again in a heartbeat. Our boys had the best time and can't wait to get back already. As with any hotel, there were pros and cons to this one as well. We love how secluded Mayakoba feels, the setting is insanely gorgeous and Banyan Tree itself is one of the most beautiful properties we have ever stayed at. When we checked in we were greeted immediately and everyone in the lobby was friendly and welcoming. Our room wasn't ready so they suggested we have a bite to eat, or use their changing rooms and head to the pool. The property is huge, so it would have been nice to maybe get a tour of the property. It was a little hectic trying to figure it out with 3 kiddos. Once our room was ready, we were taken by golf cart which was super fun for the kids. When we arrived at the room, there were bikes for each of us, even training wheels on the bike for our 4 year old! Our concierge gave us a rundown of the room and showed us around, and we were shocked at how huge the room was. We had a three bedroom golf view, and the kids were so excited to have a large pool rather than a typical plunge pool. The room was stunning, however we felt that for the price we paid, it was a little dated and rundown. There were cabinets that were hanging off of the hinges in pretty much every room/bathroom, a large dehumidifier in the downstairs hallway that was loud and smelled pretty gross. One of the sinks in the primary bathroom either wasn't installed properly or was broken because it was clearly installed at an angle and the water wouldn't drain fast. Also, the shower door wouldn't open very far and when it did it would scratch against the floor. The bathtub while clean looked rusty in some areas so it turned us off from using it. We probably would have complained about the room, but it was very clean which is more important than anything IMO, and the kids were happy so we didn't want to cause problems. The kitchen didn't have any towels, and there were no tissues in any of the rooms. We happened to receive a survey after our first night and I wrote about those 2 things in the survey. Within an hour we were fully stalked with multiple tissue boxes and kitchen towels. Our room was always provided with enough towels and the bathroom restocked with supplies. Talk about excellent service! Speaking of service, the service at this property is top notch. Every staff member goes above and beyond to say hello and smile. Everyone on the property was extremely friendly. The pool staff and beach staff were amazing, however the service there (and everywhere) was very very slow. We don't like being rushed of course, but sometimes dinner would take well over 2 hours which is rough with small kids. I will say, we noticed the service started becoming even slower when a giant party had arrived for a wedding. Once all of those guests started showing up (around the halfway mark of the trip) service was significantly slower in all areas of the resort. The food and drinks were delish - but the drinks were definitely weak! The breakfast buffet was one of the best we've ever experienced. Also, the kids menus were really good. Not just typical chicken nuggets and burgers which we appreciated. The pools were perfect temperatures, and the beach was fabulous. They came around with free snacks and popsicles daily which was so fun. The only negatives I have is that some of the pool lights were loose and the kids would play with them or accidentally step on them. Also, we noticed halfway through the trip when the wedding guests arrived that people were going to claim pool/ beach chairs relatively early and wouldn't show up for 3-4 hours later. There were two days we showed up after breakfast and couldn't get spots. Some resorts we have stayed at doesn't allow claiming chairs early, and if they do the pool/beach staff takes down the room number and gives up the chairs if you're not back in an hour. It would have been nice for a policy like that to be in place to make it easier to get chairs. We took the boat tour which was amazing. We saw a crocodile, tons of turtles and birds, and some iguanas. My husband had a massage at the spa and said it was phenomenal. The kids were having too much fun at the pool and the beach to participate in any other activities or utilize anything else such as the kid's club! Lastly, just a word of advice for anybody coming to stay here...bring EVERYTHING you might potentially need or else you might be spending a ton of money on things. We ran out of aloe vera by day 3 and the hotel was out of it at their shop. We had to pay 38 dollars (I think) to have somebody get it for us in Playa del Carmen, and then 36 for Benadryl. Painful knowing I had a Costco size waiting for us at home! We have stayed at multiple resorts with the kids and they all said this was their favorite vacation so far! We can't wait to go back! While the resort is extremely kid friendly, I would love to experience it kid free as well!

Loved our stay at the Banyan Tree Mayakoba. Extraordinary resort set in a lush jungle and beach landscape. Architecture and design that truly create a sense of place and comfort. Sophisticated restaurants. Friendly and extraordinarily well trained staff. Lots of fun activities golfing tennis boat rides water toys. Resort is set out in a large area with a series of bike/cart paths and canals that connecting everything, We stayed in a beach villa. With a deck and plunge pool overlooking the beach and a private outdoor shower and jacuzzi. Gorgeous. Well designed/furnished. Truly comfortable. Best staff we have seen since the orient. Our concierges made our reservations coordinated our travel, answered our questions. Each waiter/waitress asks if you have a food allergy before you order. Beach service. Maid service . All delivered with skill and a smile. Standout experiences: The jungle boat ride to our villa. Dinner at Saffron. Golf at the Chameleon. Lunch at Sur. The ridiculously comfortable bed and sheets. Opening the shade in the morning to a beautiful beach vista. Happening upon a cenote during our bike ride and climbing down into its otherworldly environment. Special thanks to: our concierges Emmanuel and Eduardo for making the logistics of our stay so easy, Israel our waiter at Sur for his fun personality and level of service, Masseuse Isabell for an incredibly strong and deep and skillful massage at the spa. Carlos at the beach cabana for anticipating our needs before we even asked. Expensive but worth it! Bring your wallet. Dinners cost about $180US per person. Golf was about $300US per person.

We just left this amazing resort and I felt compelled to rave. We are normally a Four Seasons couple, but decided to take a chance on Banyan Tree, and we were so happy we did. We've stayed at most of the Four Seasons in Mexico,, Hawaii, and Bora Bora. The room at Banyan Tree was truly the best we have stayed in.... spacious, gorgeous and clean. The plunge pool was the best we've seen! Staff was gracious, and we always felt relaxed, never stressed about finding a table, a chair, etc. They truly invite you to relax, and we in mo way felt that overcrowded, "rushed" feeling many resorts evoke. The food was wonderful, with the standout being Sur, a tapas spot right on the beach. Best meal we've had at ANY resort! That meal alone, I would travel 6 hours for! Cello was also amazing! (Bring bug spray... lagoon mosquitoes are real!) Sands was our favorite for brunch.... I wouldn't rave about it for dinner, but it was still good. We did have a slight issue with our room, but the general manager, and Laura and Annie, remedied it in a way that felt they truly valued us. We cannot wait to come back..... we will now always consider Banyan Tree our favorite resort!

I have been to Banyan Tree Mayakoba several times since 2012. I stay at their beautiful villas at least twice a year. It is my most favourite place to stay in this world. They have the most beautiful villas and beaches. But number one reason why I keep going back is the amazing hospitality. Each time I go there I get greeted by familiar faces with beautiful welcomes. I booked a round trip private car from Mayakoba and it was definitely worth it. The car is so clean and they provide delicious snacks and cold drinks. It even has a little tv screen for entertainment. Most of all, I would like to thank, the front desk supervisor Ms. Andy Rios for her spectacular hospitality and service. She never failed helping me out throughout the stay. Andy went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied with all my requests. She arranged my room exactly the way I needed it. They welcomed me with platter of food and a bottle of champagne. They arranged amazing welcome back sweets and deserts to celebrate my early birthday. I can’t thank her enough for all her wonderful support. The food at each restaurant is absolutely fantastic. The breakfast is so delicious and they have so many food selections. All the staff at all the restaurants are spectacular. I would like to thank Ms. Leyla, Guadalupe, Yesica, Edson, Ivon, Xiomara, Ximena, Omar and the rest of the staff for their wonderful hospitality and excellent service. I usually take the complimentary boat tour to see Mayakoba. Mr. Jesus is always wonderful to tour around the magical little place, where we experience the real nature of wilderness in Mayakoba. He always takes his time to show and give details about the nature. I highly recommend everyone to book a massage while they stay at the resort. It is an excellent experience. I would highly suggest Ms. Isabel and Ms. Yolanda for the best massage experience. Thank you Mr. Javier, the director of the gallery for providing me with all my needs. Many thanks to the general manger Mr. Juan Carlos and Mr. Octavio and Remco for always taking care of me. I always feel so much gratitude for the support and love. I can’t wait till next time.

This was our second stay at this incredible resort! Everything about our vacation was perfect and exceeded our expectations. We stayed in the Beachfront Villa; the room was gorgeous and spacious with an incredible view of the beach and ocean right outside our door. We loved spending time in our private pool and hot tub, as well as enjoying meals on our massive terrace. There is wildlife everywhere, including raccoons, iguanas, and crocodiles (small), to name a few. We even had an iguana living under our terrace and we became friends over the course of the week (his name is now Igor). The staff was super-friendly, incredibly responsive, and were even anticipating our needs to make our stay magical. The beach staff was constantly checking in with us to ensure we had everything we needed from towels to ice buckets to water. Special shoutout to Rene & Paola, our Resort Hosts, for their impeccable service all week. The grounds are spectacular and lush, and incredibly well-maintained. We took our bikes (included with the room) for a ride every morning to the breakfast buffet (which was amazing!), and also biked around the giant property, seeing even more wildlife along the way. Getting around the huge property (even to other hotels on the resort) was easy as they would promptly send a cart to our villa to take us anywhere. We can't wait for our next trip back to Banyan Tree. Thanks to all the staff who made our trip so perfect! Kevan & Nadia

From the moment we got there the service was incredible. Welcoming us with a drink and a hot towel before taking us on a buggy to our apartment. The Accomodation was incredible, very private and beautifully decorated. It was also super well maintained throughout by the house keeping team. We spent most of our days at the Sands Beach Club where the food and again the service were brilliant. We did the trip as a couple and although there are many families that visit the Banyan Tree, not at any point did the hotel feel like it was for kids. We had the most amazing time and the staff/ service could not have been better. We’ll definitely be returning!

While our first visit to Banyan Tree was certainly memorable, I would say there were some hiccups that made it less than exceptional. Upon check in I would have appreciated a more in depth introduction to the resort. We were given a paper map and sent a link to the website. If you’re in the villas, prepare for a 25 minute walk/15 minute bike ride to the beach. However, golf carts are constantly taxing people all over the resort. We learned that it was Mexican Night, which only happens twice a week, but it was fully booked. Many of the restaurant reservations fill up quickly, so I’d advise pre arranging these, as well as the boat tour, ahead of your trip. Our room was not equipped with some of the amenities I had requested in advance; two kids’ bikes and a roll away bed and it only had towels for two people, not four. However, after informing Juan, our concierge, the issue was quickly rectified. The timing of housekeeping was rather disappointing. At four o clock on our first full day they had not yet shown up and I had to call to request it. It must be the norm because most days they arrived in the late afternoon, which unfortunately for us, is when we return from the beach for some “quiet time” for our kids. Upon their last visit they did not leave any water or milk for coffee so they had to be summoned back. One evening our AC was also malfunctioning and we had to have maintenance come. It was speedily repaired, just another inconvenience to have to deal with for us. The food is excellent, just get ready to be hit over the head with the prices. $240 for a steak, $200 breakfast buffet for two kids and two adults, etc. The highlight for my kids was the boat ride. The captain, Jesus, was amazing and a great tour guide. The grounds are breathtaking and we were very impressed with the security and safety measures. We also did not eat at the Haab dinner, but we enjoyed the native Mayan drum circle that happens afterwards and it was awesome.
