Combining Mexican and Caribbean designs that bring to mind the warmth of an old, but beautiful, Mayan village.

Reviews Summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
Nestled in a prime location, Mahekal Beach Resort offers easy access to stunning beaches and local culture, which many guests appreciate. The resort's amenities, including lush grounds, pools, and delectable dining options, are often lauded, though some suggest there's room for improvement. While the service is typically seen as friendly and accommodating, the value proposition has been questioned by guests who feel the cost is steep considering the experience. Noise from nearby nightlife and construction is a concern, particularly for beachside rooms, yet the resort's cleanliness and unique atmosphere receive positive remarks.

There was no service throughout the stay whatsoever Some of the staff were rude, inattentive, unhelpful and unprofessional. The breakfast buffet was not good. Dirty rooms, towels with sand, showers with sharp stone floor, cannot shower barefoot or you will get cuts, no room near the sink to place necessities, rusty faucets and mirrors, smell like sewerage in the room. Uncomfortable bed, sheets and pillows, felt like we slept on the floor. A/C doesn’t work properly, prepare to sweat throughout the night. In unheated pools, the water was too cold even when it was 85 degrees outside. people come from the beach all sandy and wash themselves inside the pool and jacuzzi and no one cares. The worst hotel I have ever stayed in. It’s close to the city. Price of a 5-star hotel, but the whole experience felt like 2-star hotel.

Superior EVERYTHING! That’s what has kept us coming back for 11 years. The staff feels like family. The grounds are kept immaculate which is impressive because there are trees and plants everywhere. The food is delicious. If anything is off, the staff makes it right immediately. The beach is wonderful and kept 99% seaweed free (which is amazing considering how prolific the seaweed is on other beaches). Already planning our next visit!

This was our 2nd stay at Mahekal, in consecutive years, both in April. I would go to Mahekal every year for the rest of my life if I could! Staff is charming and welcoming — we felt like Manuel was family when we left (also shoutout to Enrique, Sofia, and Emilia). The property is so lovely and serene (not for you if you’re looking for high energy, activity filled resort). You feel simultaneously whisked away from it all, but also you can step outside the resort and walk to restaurants and bars. I recommend at least getting the plan that includes breakfast — fresh juices (get the green juice!), made from scratch tortillas, pastries, fruit, everything you could want. Start your day looking at the ocean from Las Olas restaurant, with Manuel! Then go from pool, to beach, to hammock. Repeat daily.

I really wanted to love this place but it just doesn't live up to the expectations. First off you have to know going in that this resort is located right on the public beach and the main thoroughfare road to the public beach splits the resort in half. See googlemaps The good...Manuel was the best server. Friendly and attentive. He needs to be running the resort and training ALL employees. He made us smile and he was the highlight of the trip! Allan the concierge was also very nice and very helpful! The resort is located in a beautiful setting and inside the resort it is beautiful and serene. Buffet breakfast was good. Fresh juices delicious. The bad... ROOM - we had a oceanfront private casita. Beautiful but it is right on the public beach. Our first night the music played all day and into the night. The revelers had LARGE speakers with the volume at 11 and did not care one bit that there were people trying to sleep literally feet from them. We called the front desk several times (phone didn't work and kept disconnecting (prob a game the front desk plays regularly)) we were told it's public beach and nothing they can do until midnight! The revelers got progressively drunker and louder. As an all female group we were scared, they were literally right outside our room! We called the desk again and got same answer, phone disconnecting etc. NOT ONCE did anyone come down to the room to check on us, or finish the conversation nor did they offer to put security nearby, nothing just told "it is a public beach they have a right to be there." Ok but I paid a lot of money to sleep here and cannot. It was so loud you couldn't hear yourself think. We tried earplugs, pillows over our heads etc. After that, I had to walk down in my pajamas to the front desk (as the phone didn't work). THEN and ONLY THEN did they offer to move our room to the garden for the night. The next day they found us another beachfront room on the main area of the resort. Music was minimal (but you could still hear it every night). The room had a plunge pool that was unusable because it was basically sitting in the Gulf of Mexico!!The casita building was in such deterioration, we thought we might wake up in the water!!! They have a beautiful resort but as I mentioned it sits right on the public beach so your view is met with umbrellas, loud music, tons of people etc..If you stay on the other side of resort (main side) its better as beach is smaller and resort has private areas to sit in. When we asked for compensation of first night difference in oceanfront to garden view we were told sorry NO that request can not be granted. NO REIMBURSEMENT OF THE DIFFERENCE. NO COUPONS. The manager (not easy to find one as I think they are hiding from guests) offered us one free drink each. WOW. Front desk staff was rude and dismissive after word obviously got around that we were not happy campers. Corporate needs to fix these problems or lower their prices. I would never pay that amount again for what they offer. FOOD - Read the fine print on the Partial ALL INCLUSIVE, alcohol was not included in our plan and you only have $27 pp if you eat at FUEGO. The only restaurant at the resort, besides the buffet on the other side of resort. The third restaurant was closed. Food was ok not great or anything special. Pools - sand and oil in pools as they were not cleaned during the day, dirty towels were not picked up after people left by pool and beach area for hours on end. Activities - there were also no activities on the resort. Usually you would have water aerobics, or a beach dance class or yoga on the beach but they didn't have any organized activities. Security guards positioned at the resort entrances and on the beach was intimidating as well. Necessary because of the public location but a bit unnerving everyday. Sorry Mahekal was looking forward to a fun, relaxing week but we all have PTSD after this vacation.

My wife and I had a truly wonderful experience with the Revive Spa ! Veronica Lara was a true delight. She handled our scheduling with so much joy. Our therapists Elena and Claudia were amazing! The spa is so tranquil and the entire experience was A+.

Excellent location and beautiful resort. Overall we had a good time if not spoiled by a few events... Food quality XXXX Location and resort XXXXX Personnel XXX.... We only thanks Manuel, Henrike and Concierge for the excellent warmness and caring.... The rest just average. Reception personnel X ... Very arrogant and disrespectful towards us in few occasion. I was stressed before going to ask questions as the answers where not polite. Restaurant and bar service was not up to standards and the Hotel has big difficulties to manage a large groups. They just cannot cope. Again, MANUEL and ENRIKE where fantastic! THANK YOU! Beaches are a it small but clean, as the rest of the hotel but the rooms are just enough for 2 people and in various occasions the Housekeeper did not clean the Toilet. Not good. Swimming pools also where not cleaned sufficiently and towards midday they where not good for use. Lots of dirt and oily spots on the surface already in the morning. I believe the Resort was very good some time ago' because it has potentialities but now.... need definitely to improve a lot. Overall XXX Stars.

Behind the unimpressive stone wall and iron gates, there lies an incredibly beautiful, magical, well run resort, with pristine facilities, and a beautiful section of the beach. The staff is amazing, everyone seems happy, friendly, and willing to do anything to make your stay great. The service is exceptional. After the initial shock of finding out that the resort is not "All Inclusive", depending on the travel package purchased, and apparently we failed to include "extras" which means mainly food, the rest of our experience surpassed expectations. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, with better options and better prices than what's offered at the hotel's buffet, which by the way is mediocre and pricey. However, on the other side of the hotel there is a 5 star restaurant, Fuego, which is out of this world. Try their offerings during Lobster night. So not having purchased the package that included food turned out to be a plus, because we got to enjoy better food during our stay. The Garden View room was excellent, the bed very comfortable, the AC unit works very well. Our Chambermaid, Carmen, made sure that everything was clean and beautiful. The Mahekal Resort is definitely a great place to stay if you visit Playa del Carmen.

We were hoping to love this resort yet were so disappointed. The stinky sewer smell upon arrival was a huge turn off. We had two rooms. One beachfront and one a palapa room. Beachfront is very noisy with folks outside your room 24/7 and palapa dropped junk on the bed all day and night. Yuck! The food is okay and the staff do try. We had multiple issues. No towels one day, three days of no filling the mini bar, given one key at check in and never more available, phone in room not working, difficult to use coupons we were given and a variety of other annoying issues. The most annoying was us having (and paying for) a late checkout to then have the front desk call and say we needed to be out immediately. I went to the desk and was very firm and we did wind up staying until 3, with them breathing down our neck. The spa was awesome and that is why I gave them two stars. We travel the world and have stayed at all types of accommodations. This place definitely needs improvement. I hope the owners and management will take notice and get some training in customer service. It was just BAD!

Mahekal Beach Resort is a magical place. This was our first visit but we will be back. We traveled with our 12 year for spring break and stayed in the back jungle area. It felt so cozy and peaceful. We sat in the chairs on the beach each day and enjoyed people watching the public beach and the easy access to jump into the ocean. We wanted true relaxation so we ate our meals on property and we were never bored or disappointed by the choices. Eating at Fuego and overlooking the ocean was the perfect vibe for our trip. I highly recommend the Mahekal.

We took our son here on spring break . The resort was clean , access to the beach was right out our front door. We chose the 2 meals a day as part of our stay. We loved the buffet bar. We enjoyed the atmosphere more so than eating at the restaurants in town.. The staff at both restaurants were amazing The spa/massage was also great. Ask for Jesus or Roberta. The resort is on a very quiet street and secure. We would go back.
