We had the best week at Mahekal. Ocean front room and amazing service at all the restaurants. Highly recommend Rogelio and Manuel for your waiters. They went above and beyond to provide the best service along with their support staff Beti and Fabiola. Make sire to request them if you are at Any of the restaurants as you will get the best!!

Hotel's Favourite
Our repeat stay at Mahekal Beach Resort almost exactly one year from the first, turned out to be a good choice as we found the beauty of the grounds, friendly service, and relaxing atmosphere hadn't really changed. The staff there makes a huge difference in how enjoyable and relaxing our stay there had been. One reason we will consider going back a third time, the staff remembered us from before! As for the beach, they have lost a few feet of shore line as storms have been sweeping the sand away. Regardless the ocean was the perfect temperature for casual swimming. Had a few days where the turquoise water was so calm clear, I didn't want get out! However, there were a couple of days when it was raining and the ocean wasn't so calm. On those days we took advantage of our private porch hammocks or joined the other guest at the tiki bars. We also spent a fair amount of our afternoons at Itzy pool and swim up bar. There we were well taken care of by our personal favorite bartender Mariano and wait staff Daniel. Mariano mixed up the best drinks (Margaritas were on point), even getting a fresh cut coconut from the resort to create a special drink request. Daniel was always going the extra mile to make sure our vacation was the best experience possible. We also really enjoyed the breakfast at Las Olas every morning and either dined at Fuego or Cocina at night. The fresh food prepared at the resort, makes it better yet! It was always delicious and the service was top notch. Special thanks to the personable Hostess at Cocina who always welcomed us with a bright smile (wish I could recall her name... my bad ) and AleJandro one of our wait staff who would converse (both spanish and english LoL) with us and making the dining experience even more enjoyable. What else can I say.... even the groundskeepers smiling and wishing us a good day. The only things that we both agree could use some improvement, was the water pressure for the shower was low for a hot shower decent for a cold shower.... burrrrr! The AC in Palapa roof rooms didn't seem to be adjustable, while comfortable most of the time, we like it a little bit colder thru the night (remote for the AC didn't really control much of anything!) That being said, we both agree that overall the resort is a value when it comes to picking where we plan to take a relaxing vacation! Can't beat consistency!

The Premium Bungalow, 1 Bedroom, Non Smoking, Beachfront does not delivers in how its advertised. There are three major issues with this beachfront bungelow. It is LITERALLY ON THE BEACH - you guys do not own the beach and therefore both of the nights we listened to security guards argue with people on the beach to be quiet, chase them away, etc. At 6:30a.m. people start arriving at the beach for the day - kids screaming, people drinking, at SEVEN AM The security guards pace back and for all evening and stop at that bungelow and visit and make noise - adding to the not paradise vibe. In other words if you come to Mahekal wanting to sleep, rest, and listen to sounds of the ocean - you'll be surprised to find out that you will be awakened throughout the night by drunken beach goers and at 6:30a.m. to screaming children... We would have much rather stayed in a room in the "oasis" and had some peace and quiet, than pay premium money to be on this beach. $1500 for two nights only to be ruined by all that noise and location to the public beach. The resort is fine enough, but nothing out of the ordinary but just don't pay premium money for ocean front setting only to have it be less private than your home. I contacted the concierge after the stay about this and got no response.

Dear Nicjcunningham, We appreciate your taking the time to review us on TripAdvisor! We are very sorry that your experience during your recent visit has not been completely pleasant; unfortunately, during the winter season the high tide makes the beach space almost disappear, and with it, all the people outside our property get closer to our oceanfront rooms. We are truly committed to our guest's safety and rest, so our security team is always patrolling the area and making sure our guests receive the privacy they need. Please allow us to express our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience during your stay. We look forward to having the opportunity to serve you again in the future Sincerely, General Management Mahekal Beach Resort

Staff and facilities were great. This was our first time here and we plan to return. The only minor compliant we had is we wish they served more local food at their restaurants. The access to the pools and the beach was perfect for a family or a couples retreat. The lush grounds made you feel like you are in the jungle- much better than hallways and elevators.

Overall an excellent experience. Staff was excellent and the property is beautiful. Some highlights: Breakfast: Las Olas Buffet was excellent. Great fresh options and food turned over quickly so it all tasted great. Anything special order from the kitchen was also excellently prepared. Ignacio (our waiter most days at breakfast) was excellent. He made my daughter's morning every day by making her a fresh smoothie with a big smile. Rogelio was our waiter on the days that Ignacio was off and also provided the same high level of service. Our package didn't include lunch so we ate off site. Within about a safe 5 minute walk, there's a ton of great food options. Dinner: We had dinner most nights at La Cocina. Again the food was consistently good but it's also the staff and service that made it memorable. All of the food was very flavorful and had a lot of depth. Hard to pick a favorite but when available, their Mexican options were worth trying. As far as service, Berinice (our hostess), Gonzalo (chef) and Antullo (waiter) made each meal special. Berinice always greeted us with a big smile. She also went above and beyond and hand made a gift for our girls. This was such a super-sweet gesture and totally made their day! Gonzalo won my youngest daughter over. He was always there to help her reach something and often he's make her something special. Her highlight was when he made her sushi without the seaweed. I think Gonzalo got the biggest hug before we left :) Antuillo was also a great waiter. Always made sure to check in on us with a big smile. One big highlight was my daughter asked for a scoop of ice cream. Antullo, Gonzalo and Berinice got together and they made my daughter an ice cream sundae with an awesome presentation of stickers, chocolate toppings in a big martini like glass. This was totally unexpected and she was bouncing out of her seat with joy. These are the kinds of sweet gestures that make trips memorable. Finally, two other things really made a difference: Julianna and Sheilo at the onsite ceramics were just amazing. They were mesmerizing to watch and were both very friendly & excellent teachers. Just great personalities and great people to be around. My wife and daughters made quite a few things while they were there and always had a great experience. Lastly, Pal - the magician at El Fuego was really really good. It's worth going to see him. Overall, we found the food and ambiance at La Cocina preferable to El Fuego. For us, just better, more appealing options and the music was often lower / more chill whereas at times, El Fuego felt like you were eating at a dance club. The only reason that this was not a 5 star review is that we had specifically requested a quieter room and were offered room 15. The room has an amazing view - right overlooking the beach with a balcony - It's breathtaking! They also mentioned that they close the Las Olas pool / bar about 9 so we would not have people partying outside our door all night. What they didn't mention was that Las Olas was hosting weddings on both Friday and Saturday night. We received a note on our door Thursday for the wedding Friday and it finally died down after 11. This wasn't just a little bit of noise. Think thumping base, people singing loudly to the music, and then at the end, 30 minutes of intoxicated people making their way back to their rooms. Sounds like they had a great party but as I mentioned above, we specifically requested a quiet room and actually paid an upgrade for this room, with no mention of the weddings when we upgraded. We originally thought it was just the wedding on Friday. Annoying but whatever. Then we notice them rearranging furniture again at Las Olas on Saturday. We stopped over to ask and found out that there is another wedding! We were very upset. We've got 2 young kids and honestly, these rooms are not cheap - part of the beauty is getting the kids to bed and just sitting outside, watching the stars / listening to the waves. We spoke with Rosa, and explained the situation. She was sympathetic and found us another room on the other side of the resort so we could sleep peacefully for the night. This was much appreciated and allowed us to get some rest after the late night. In my opinion, if the resort is doing weddings , the rooms surrounding the wedding venue should be reserved for the wedding guests. This is not a loud club-like resort. It's quiet, beautiful peaceful yet that was ruined by the weddings. These 2 days really tainted what was an otherwise exceptional experience.

Best resort in Playa Del Carmen, nature, animals and really nice staff. Go to Agave bar and have the cocktails from Mariano (bar tender) and Daniel (assistent bartender). They serve the best cocktails in Town, we stayed in playa del carmen for three weeks, so we know!!! Go to fuego One time, but enjoy the restaurant more!

My husband and I stayed in the Oasis area for three nights. I felt it necessary to share that it is NOT quiet at night due to the beach club beside the hotel. The rooms don't have proper windows as parts are just screens with wooden slats over them, which allow the outside noise and rain into the room. Not being able to sleep negatively impacted our vacation, the front desk dismissively offered us a "voluntary downgrade" to a much smaller room right beside the pool and open air restaurant ~ not really acceptable. Although Fuego restaurant and staff were amazing, we would not return because we are not interested in loud music inside our room while trying to sleep.

We stayed at Mahekal for a wedding celebration from 11/9-11/12, 2022. From the moments we pulled up to the main entrance, my wife and I knew it was going to be a fantastic stay. The check-in process was smooth and answered all our questions about the resort and amenities. The grounds of the resort were perfectly manicured. Everyday, workers were making sure everything was pristine. The pools were clean and tidy. We stayed in a King Palapa room and it was perfectly appointed. Only issue was the door locks behind you if you don’t have your key or have the door propped open. Alan, one of the helpful attendants, came quickly over to assist and explain the amenities of the room. Very friendly!! Our balcony had a little table with chairs and 2 hammocks for relaxation. Inside the room, the AC worked perfectly and every room had a safe for convenience. All the restaurants and bars were fantastic. A couple of shoutout to the exceptional workers and servers, Manuel, Nilberto, Ruben, and Ismael at Los Olas, Sergio at Itzi made our time at those venue very memorable. The food was absolutely delicious and the drinks were perfect!! We would go back to the resort for the food alone!! We also did a 80 minute couples massage spa treatment. Gloria and Silene were absolutely top-notch!! They gave my wife and I a massage we will never forget. All in all, we can’t wait to come back to visit. I highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a getaway. The resort is 2 blocks from 5th Ave where there’s plenty of shops, restaurants, and bars.

My Husband "Juancho" and I celebrated our wedding at Mahekal on Friday, November 11. It was everything we dreamed of and more. We were a bit stressed as we had guest flying in and hurricane Nicole was trying to ruin our weekend. Fabiola Acosta, our wedding coordinator, put us at ease. She walked us through everything and was very patient. Luckily all 75 of our guest were able to make it in. The service was hands down a 10 of 10. All 75 guest raved about how pleasant and professional the staff was. We were always greeted by our names and a smile. We'd like to give a big shout out to a few of our new friends, Ruben, Jimmy, Ismael, Alejandro, Emilia, Bety, Manuel, Rogelio, Luis, Fabiolo, Alberto, Sergio, to name a few. Mahekal is a place worth visiting more than once. Thank you for making our wedding an unforgettable one.
