I wish I felt differently, but this resort is a no go for me. There where issues with the check-in, check-out and a level of noise thanks to a neighboring beach club that ruined this gem of a hotel for me, despite some really wonderful moments in between. My husband and I specifically sought out a boutique beachfront hotel that...

Pros: Kid friendly, right on the beach, 2 swimming pools, hammocks for every porch, great service, friendly staff. Great breakfast included Cons: much better food up on 5th avenue (think cruise fare for dinner). mediocre coffee in the am.

My husband and i got married at mahekal beach resort in February 2014. We travelled from Australia. We never been to Mexico but were drawn to it by the fantastic diving, beautiful beaches and the local food. After a lot of researching and googling resorts in Playa Del Carmen, we knew we found the right resort. The resort itself is...

1st visit to Playa del carmen in 12 years. Way busier then we wanted. We were lucky to have 10 days at the Mahekal. Looks like what a hotel on the beach in Hawaii would of looked like 50 years ago. Beautiful beach. Palapas and cabanas. NO HIGH RISE or TV's. Great staff, and the half board food program is...

We had a great stay at Mahekal overall and would happy to recommend it, however there are a few things that could be improved. What we liked the most: - the lovely staff. Everybody was super nice and accomodating. It was easy to find great nannies for our baby (especially Ana) - the overall environment. The view is beautiful and...

Beautiful resort with great staff. The food was good, and the location was incomparable. So unbelievably gorgeous. If you enjoy silence at night bring earplugs. Playa del Carmen has a nightclub and the bass beat goes through the resort. No phone in the room is the only downside. Poolside partiers making lots of noise til 3:30 am made for a...

This was our first stay at this property and it was perfect for us! The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The location was in a quiet area, away from the clubs and loud music. It was great for relaxing, spending time on the beach or laying in our twin hammocks (which are on every unit's patio!) There was a...

We stayed at the Hotel Las Palapas, which is part of the Mahekal Beach Resort. The first room we were given was next to an area of construction. We asked for a different room and we were given one that was perfect. You can hear music from an adjacent beach club. This music stopped fairly early in the evening. Friendly...

Experience even better than expected ! Lovely staff, amazing place. Beautiful garden. Good food. The hotel is very well placed, on the quiet area of PLaya: at the beginning of the commercial street (avenida 5) but the North of the beach, far enough from the load music and bars (ie 5 minutes), so you have all choices.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Mahekal Beach Resort is a legendary resort village located on 800 feet of white sand beach in the heart of vibrant Playa del Carmen. It has 198 thatched roof, palapa-style bungalows within steps of Fifth Avenue, the celebrated entertainment, shopping, and restaurant district of Playa del Carmen. The thousands of loyal repeat guests at Mahekal Beach Resort describe it as magical, memorable, and authentically Yucatecan. Our style is friendly and relaxed, a unique Caribbean experience where you can rock gently in a hammock on your private terrace and enjoy undoubtedly the best beach in Playa. Our guests love the fact that we have never compromised our truly unique ambiance and style. In keeping with that style, our rooms do not offer televisions. Instead, they feature original, brightly colored, Mexican tile bathrooms, private terraces with hammocks for siestas and star gazing, and locally-crafted Mexican wood furniture in an outdoor seating area where you can enjoy our magical sanctuary. The Resort offers meal plans that include breakfast daily and lunch or dinner. This choice gives our guests the opportunity to explore the many dining options in Playa del Carmen. ... more   less
