We stayed here for 5 days and overall it was a nice time, but Mahekal has its flaws. Pros - Small hotel with cute colorful buildings instead of a massive highrise. - Service at the beach was excellent. Servers were quick. Breakfast service at Aventura was quick as well. Staff was friendly. - Food on the beach was tasty and...

Thank you for your detailed review on our rooms and services. I appreciate your compliments on the food, room and the beach area in the name of our Kitchen, Waiters and Housekeeping staff members. Regarding the amenities of the room, not having a tv or phone is part of the hotel´s unique concept. And however we are not planning to...

This small resort is located at the heart of Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The management of the hotel has done a great job combining luxury with rustic features. The fact that you have the choice of 2 out of 3 meals included with your stay gives you the freedom to experience other restaurants around without feeling that you are wasting...

My review is very late, but I want to share anyway. We were on Vacation in November of 2013, the weekend before Thanksgiving. I did a lot of research before I chose the Mahekal. My husband and I usually do the all-inclusive and was a bit nervous but the hotel was great. We took our 6 yr old daughter with...

After rereading the overall rating of the Mahekal nothing more can be said as the reviewers are correct in their description and reviews of the property and the hard working employees of the resort are right on. I booked totally on-line early in Sept. to take advantage of the discount offered. On arrival transportation was waiting just as promised.Booking on-line always...

We spent 8 nights here leaving Jan 30. All I can say is I will go back next year. We stayed in the garden area away from the beach. Nice and quiet with beautiful landscaping. The Mahekal Beach Club in December of 2013 merged with Las Palapas, the property next door to it, so it is now one property. The...

I paid for 8 nights in an oceanfront room. Upon check-in, they put us in a room that was not oceanfront. We had pre-paid, the document clearly stated oceanfront, and the hotel refused to give us oceanfront until we paid an additional $1600. This is clearly a case of bait and switch. In Mexico this is standardized corruption in service....

Dear Guest, we are surprised to read your comment about your stay. As per our records, you booked an Ocean Front Room via a travel agency and you were checked-in to 32P, which is room type you booked, when you arrived. Room 32P is one of our few bungalow ocean front rooms and it is located only a few steps...

We spend 3 nights in a Garden Palapa View Room. The room was cozy with a nice view of the hammoc and the garden outside. The room was clean and the food included was fine. Nothing fancy but well prepared and alot of different dishes to chose from. Service was great, very friendly in both the restaurants and in the...

Recently stayed at Mahekal for four nights and attended a wedding on premises. Mahekal is a blend between glamping (glamour camping), a hotel and a resort. It is not a traditional hotel, it is indeed very rustic as the majority of the "huts" have thatched roofs. There is no phone or TV in the rooms, but they do have electricity...

Thank you for taking the time to write your feedback about your stay. We find your comments very useful in order to get a picture on the services we could do better. We are sorry for the inconveniences caused by the sulfur smell of the mangroves that sometimes happens after a heavy rain. There is not much we can do...

We were there from Jan 23-28th, 2014. Food was great, staff friendly, beautiful resort. Our room was perfect! Close to 5th avenue (like several blocks)....quiet. Yes there is a sulphur smell sometimes, but did not bother us. Beach is gorgeous, but not very wide..not the resorts fault. Just listening to the waves and swinging in our hammock was really relaxing....

We stayed here Jan 18-26. The package that our friends purchased for 8 days averaged $250/night. We stayed at an MUCH nicer resort in Cancun for $150/night WITHOUT the sticky smell of sewer. Boy, after reading these reviews, I expected a luxurious resort...and this is far from luxurious. I wondered if those people actually stayed at the same place I...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Mahekal Beach Resort is a legendary resort village located on 800 feet of white sand beach in the heart of vibrant Playa del Carmen. It has 198 thatched roof, palapa-style bungalows within steps of Fifth Avenue, the celebrated entertainment, shopping, and restaurant district of Playa del Carmen. The thousands of loyal repeat guests at Mahekal Beach Resort describe it as magical, memorable, and authentically Yucatecan. Our style is friendly and relaxed, a unique Caribbean experience where you can rock gently in a hammock on your private terrace and enjoy undoubtedly the best beach in Playa. Our guests love the fact that we have never compromised our truly unique ambiance and style. In keeping with that style, our rooms do not offer televisions. Instead, they feature original, brightly colored, Mexican tile bathrooms, private terraces with hammocks for siestas and star gazing, and locally-crafted Mexican wood furniture in an outdoor seating area where you can enjoy our magical sanctuary. The Resort offers meal plans that include breakfast daily and lunch or dinner. This choice gives our guests the opportunity to explore the many dining options in Playa del Carmen. ... more   less
