Staying at your hotel was a great pleasure. Your staff is exceptional and strived to go above and beyond to make our stay the best it could be. This made us feel very comfortable and welcome on your resort. The room was the exact room that we requested and room service was an added luxury that was very beneficial for my husband and myself on the days that we needed it. The bed sheets could be a little less rough, otherwise, everything in the room was great. Eric at the pool bar made our stay a memorable one and we were sure to let him know that. We thoroughly enjoyed our chocolate dipped strawberries that were waiting for us in our room when we arrived, we loved how clean it was (except for under the bed), we loved coming back to our rooms every day to a fully stocked fridge and we took notice that the staff member who helped us with our luggage made sure that the temperature of the room was what we would be comfortable with because it was set to Canadian temperatures of 22 degrees Celsius (this was very thoughtful and very much appreciated). The air conditioning worked perfectly for our entire stay and we only had to have our key cards fixed once (on our second last day). We were so happy to have found a spot that was very private at the top of your resort being the hot tub. I have a bad back and it really helped to relax me. We loved the big round bamboo beds that were placed there and actually both of us fell asleep on them for a short time because it was so nice to have that spot to ourselves with no one else around. I did notice the last time I went into the hot tub, there were many little flies that I had to scoop out of the water with my hands. Maybe if there was a small skimmer that people could use to remove the debris from rough winds and flies from the tub, that would be ideal. I would have scooped them out a lot easier if there was one that was accessible. We adored the little creatures that the maid left on our bed every day that he/she made with towels when we returned to our room and especially loved the effort that was put into the making of the swans on the bed on our last day. The resort was plush with vibrant green palm trees and plants that made it feel like a sanctuary which I loved and the structure of the archways going to our room and all over the hotel with Grecian style pillars in our room as well were breath-taking and beautiful. I felt like I was in a palace. I’ve never seen a better resort than yours and we have been to a few resorts in Mexico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Approximately 15 different 4.5-5 star resorts. When my husband and I went to the end of our hallway where our room was, we walked out onto the balcony that was there. When we were finished with the view there, I turned to step over the floor hump to get off the balcony and tripped over it and fell down on my hip. I knew the ending of the floor was there, but I think it is a little high to step over. I am very sore from the fall but hopefully it will feel better soon. I thought you should know that is a little dangerous. Maybe make them a different Color than the floor? Because of this stay, I know we will be back.The food every day was above and beyond any expectations we had. We loved every meal we had and loved that there were steamed cauliflower, carrots and broccoli every evening. I was a little disturbed by the display of the full body pig one night, but I understand that this is tradition in some places and I respect that. I should have asked the waiter to move me to another table instead of sitting beside it. It just made me feel uncomfortable. The little coffee shop with the free ice cream and the grab and go 24 hr snack bar was very nice and convenient. Well thought out. Especially for those who need to catch a shuttle before breakfast. Room service was greatly appreciated as well for this reason. We loved the entertainment in the evenings..especially when my back was sore and we could watch the shows from our balcony. We had peaceful sleep during the evenings except for on our last night when there was a lot of noise coming from the room beside us. They stayed up until 3-4am and talked loudly and had the tv playing loudly all night. We had to get up early to catch our shuttle the next morning but I did not want to complain because I thought that your staff was so pleasing that I didn’t want to put that responsibility to stop the neighbours from having their get together on them. They did so much already to make our stay so wonderful. We also liked the servers at the buffet and loved that we could pick any alacarte that we wanted whenever we wanted. Our waiter, Jacob, was more than helpful at the steak alacarte the two nights we went and was very friendly and helped my husband with his Spanish daily at breakfast. My husband was very fond of Jacob and I felt that they developed a bit of a friendship while we were there. We are thankful that we had the chance to meet him and very impressed with his ability to speak English, French and Spanish. I can’t remember everyone’s names but we felt that all staff members were friendly, caring, and respectful. We felt safe and felt that we could trust anyone that worked there. Whoever did the hiring of this fine group of people did an acceptional job of placing each and every staff member where they thought they would best be useful. Well done. When we were there, we were asked by Melanie (one of the entertainers) what we would change about the hotel if we could change something. Of course our answer was quick and we told her that everything was perfect on our second day but also told her that the smell coming from the beach around the main pool area was horrendous (of which we saw first hand why it smelled so bad when we walked down the beach one day on our way back from Fifth Avenue through all the seaweed that staff are trying tirelessly to clean up). Because of this, there were only a few places to choose to sit around the pool away from the area that smelled badly and because the other half of the pool was surrounded entirely by canopies that we soon found out that some of the staff and time share people were selling to the guests for $150/day but learned when we looked at our offers in the pamphlet we were given when we arrived that the canopies could be purchased for 79.00 per day. This was disappointing. We thought the Canopies should be included for anyone who is staying on the resort that wants to use one. Especially where there really is no beach there to enjoy. There shouldn’t be any added cost to use them unless you want the full treatment with the bottle of champagne and anything special added to the use of it. I think you should give people a choice—- you can use the canopies at no extra charge since you have limited beach space for enjoyment and charge extra if anything extra is required with the use of the canopies such as birthday celebrations and what not. I would also recommend that the canopies and pool beds be equally distributed around the pool since it is really the only place to swim on the resort besides the swim up bar at the sushi place which is smallish and since there is reduced seating around the main pool due to the smell coming from the beach, people should be able to chose to sit on the side of the pool where all the canopies are if they want to. It feels like you’re not welcome on that side of the pool when you don’t want to pay the extra for a canopy. After thinking about everything after returning home from our vacation, we thought there should be a swim up bar in the main pool as well. If not a swim up bar, I think that the waiters should be offering to get drinks for people while they are enjoying the pool. It would be so much more convenient than having to get in and out of the pool every 10 minutes or so because the drink cups are small and you get thirsty fast under that beautiful Mexican sunshine. Overall, my husband and I had a very nice time at your resort and thought it was conveniently connected to the famous Fifth Avenue. Your staff members were very professional and caring which made us feel welcome, we got more than we ever could have asked for out of a long overdue honeymoon and I’d have to say that it was one of the best places I’ve ever had the pleasure of staying at. We learned a lot about Mexican life on Fifth Avenue and even some of the culture that seems to be slowly being replaced with merchandise that does not include true Mexican culture and beliefs. We look for special pieces of art that is hand made when we visit other countries and we really look forward to resorts bringing unique vendors to the resort’s property at night time especially for people who can only walk short distances and cannot walk Fifth Avenue. I am one of those people because of my back issues. I really would have enjoyed the resort even more if there were vendors tables set up after dinner before the shows. (Just a suggestion). I do understand that there are no perfect resorts and you cannot please all the people all the time, but I think your resort could be close to perfect with some of the changes I suggested in this review. This year our group of 12 chose Panama Jacks, mostly for the value but also for the amount of off property outings that were available. WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED!
Rooms: large and well appointed. Nice balconys, clean, comfy beds. I do wish they would offer a lighter blanket instead of the heavy comforters tho. Housekeeping does a great job and the Fridge is kept well stocked.
Pool/Ocean: The pool is great, you do need to get there early to reserve your spot like most other resorts, thank goodness we had an early riser in our group. The ocean is on a rocky coast so not much for swimming there, and not a lot of cover on the beach. Lots of those beds were not usually being used, palapas would be a great addition. The pool waiters were fantastic, Jesus and Tania took great care of us. Friendly, funny and remembered what we usually ordered day after day!
Restaurants: Did not find a bad one. The buffet was was kept well stocked, a good variety, the gentleman that made the omelets in the morning was quick efficient and also remembered how I wanted my order. The waiters were constantly refilling coffee/drinks and cleaning. Antonio at Bella took care of us on 2 nights. Friendly and great at recommendations. Ipanema Daniel took care of us on 3 nights, this was a fabulous restaurant, the variety! The bacon wrapped chicken YUM! The mexican restaurant was good, watch the really hot sauce!! The ones that tried the Sushi said it was good.
Bellman: Juan was a wealth of information and always ready to help make our trip better.
The Bars: Miguel and David took good care of us at the Pool bar. Cesar at Jacks Landing was great. They all accommodated my wife who does not like red wine cold/ they would get a room temp bottle and open it for her. They knew our schedule and would have it waiting! That is true service!
Overall, all 12 of us had no complaints, only praise for this resort. We liked the intimacy and layout of it. The food was the best of any resort we have been too in our 13 years of doing a Feb vacay! Highly recommend !!!

My husband and I, and his parents, stayed at Panama Jack Playa del Carmen from January 11th-18th, from Victoria BC Canada. From the very first night that we got there, we felt at home. The staff are incredible here and go above and beyond to make your stay great! My mother in law has many food allergies, so they actually cooked her meals special for her, which made her feel so comfortable! We did an ATV adventure, which my husband's parents were unfortunately injured on, although we all had a blast! Upon returning to the hotel, they had medical aid for them to check out their wounds (my mother and law scraped up her entire lower right leg and needed bandages), and changed their bandages the next day as well. We felt so taken care of! The food was delicious, the rooms were very clean and we loved that they left little towel sculptures in the rooms every day. My husband's parents' Anniversary was during our stay and they came back to their room to find a heart made of towels and rose petals all over the bed. We will definitely be going back to this hotel next year, but for 2 weeks instead of just one. We were all sad to leave!

Sergio is one of the best people we have met at the resort. I believe he is in charge of the entertainment and they keep you entertained. The night shows are great to watch. We have been treated great. Alway happy to talk to you to make sure your having fun. Keep up the great job that is you.
Also the maid service is above and beyond are room has always been done with a high quality and some really personal touches. We looked forward to seeing what was done to our bed.
The front desk person Louie is super nice we got along great. Great at his job friendly as anyone you could meet.
Tania the bartender was great Always seems happy what a great person she is. Makes great boom booms. You would know what that is if you had one.
The security is great , they have taken car of me losing my cell phone not once but twice. I thank you so so much.
There is one person I want to give a special thanks to Arron the bell person. He is not only great at his job but a very good person. He is one of the kindest person I have met here. Always helpful and willing to make sure you are doing great. I wish him long employment with the company because if not they are losing one of the best. All the best to you Arron I would come back just to see you.
Overall the resort is great all the People here treat you great. You get the feeling that it’s not just because it’s there job. I love this place had a blast and will definitely be back as we are all family now.

We travelled to Panama Jack from 7-14 January with 3 kids. (7,4,1). We booked our trip through air transat on a Black Friday sale, and reviews for this resort seemed decent so we took our chances.
Overall we were very pleased with the resort and would return as a family or bring our parents with us as well for the right price.
We would like to first say how amazing the entertainment team is. They put in very long hours and they always have a small on there faces. My son Nikolai loved the soccer pool competition, and helping during the volleyball games to chase the ball for the adults. Both my kids Aleksander and Nikolai enjoyed participating with help of there Dad to come second in a food completion pool side 😂😊 The kids loved the Zumba Lessons, the Camp Jack area and the mini golf. Thank you Liz, Rodri(Clark Kent of Mexico) Fernando, Rai, Gina, Medallia, Andy and Ceci for making the kids week one to remember.
All the meals were excellent. We always had outstanding service in the buffet and the a la cartes. The servers are so helpful and friendly and willing to bring the kids whatever food we would like even off the menu. Antonio and Orlando , thank you for your great service as well.
Our room was 378, over looking the ocean and right under the stage for entertainment, therefore if you have small children, you may not want this room as the music can play until 10pm at night and is quite loud. We used a white noise app on our phone to tune out some of the noise.
Yes, the beach is terrible but we knew this before booking so we weren’t surprised, we made it more of a pool vacation and that worked for this trip. We also enjoyed the pirate ship pool for the kids to play in as well.
Location is great if you want to walk downtown 5th avenue with the kids or as a couple. Very safe and we had no issues with that.
Once you check in there are people in light blue shirts looking to “ show you around “ and explain the resort to you. We respectfully declined as I read from other reviews it’s a time share rep , and we honesty were too tired and with 3 kids we didn’t have the time to sit down and listen.
Sushi and the pool upstairs is great as well, and seems very quiet we only went up once but seems more of a spot for without kids.
There is an issue with people feeding the birds around the pool so it attracts more of them to wait around for people to leave out food.
The baby cribs are old and paint was chipping off of them so it wouldn’t hurt for the resort to invest in some new ones or some play pens.
I wish parents could stay in the camp jack to play with the kids but there policy is you can’t stay with the kids and need to sign them in and out to play inside. Not all parents feel comfortable with this and the whole point of vacation is to spend time together. We have never seen this before as our last resort we were able to stay with the kids.
We recommend this resort and look forward to returning again at some point :)

We (8 family members) stayed here in 2005 when it was Gran Porto Real and returned with the same group. We knew about the beach.
We didn't get the main floor rooms or king beds requested. Check in is rocky as you have to go through all the sales pitches for massages, upsell of lobster, etc. when you are tired. Our 4 rooms outside the smaller pool upstairs worked well as the downstairs pool is extremely busy and loud with a DJ. Sometimes the small pool was loud and busy too - if there was a party; on our departure day (Saturday) 25 locals descended on the pool at one time. We think the party bed is a waste of real estate - another upsell of course, but which sat empty in a prime sunny spot (couldn't it be in the shade since it has a cover?)
The food at all 3 restaurants was great and the buffet was good for breakfast. Almost all dining is indoors, but you can order room service to your room/balcony. We were very happy that reservations were not required BUT reservations are not accepted either (unless you talk to the right person) and so we were dining at 6:30 in order to be seated together.
The staff is awesome - well trained, presenting a calm, pleasant demeanour at all times. Thanks Felipe for remembering our drink orders and Erika for the great service at the sushi bar (where you can be outside). The two days I visited the gym, the a/c wasn't on and it fell torturous to be there on vacation. All in all, a great spot for a family to spend a week!

Note that standard rooms do not have a choice of King bed as expected...We had to pay a bit more to get an upgraded room which wasn’t too bad so we did. The room was generally good but I wasn’t sure why there were fruit flies in the bathroom area so something wasn’t clean. I would call this pretty much a huge cruise ship but it didn’t even have the activities as advertised. The schedule was given but it was changed last minute. After we checked in, there was a “guide” waiting for us to “give us a tour” but it was barely a walk around the lobby and then it became obvious that he was just a sales guy for the Platinum Service and he actually knew nothing more about the hotel amenities. It was also strange that we are limited a towel each (there is actually a key to get one). But when we discovered the Beach Bar area with the beach volleyball, it got a bit better - we pretty much stayed in that area on our trip. The servers there were nice. Oh and there will be some tipping required... but I didn’t think that they were upset if we didn’t always have the change to do so. Finally the “sushi” bar is NOT real! It always wasn’t open at the time it said it would.

We spent our honeymoon here and it was nothing short of amazing. The staff were very kind and welcoming. We were pleasantly surprised to special arrangements in our room from housekeeping and even received a special honeymoon couples three course meal. We received a discount on an upgraded room facing the ocean and a free lobster dinner. The resort was clean and full of amenities. There were also tons of opportunities for excursions easy to book right from the lobby. We highly recommend coming here for any special occasion!

First off, I will start with the incredible staff that make a HUGE effort to keep everyone entertained around the pool. Sergio, Nolberto and Angelica really made our trip. They were so sweet and made the days by the pool much more fun. The service staff and cleaning staff were also so attentive and I am very grateful for everyone I met. Unfortunately, the beach is nearly gone because of a hurricane but it is still very beautiful and you can walk along the beach by the other hotels. This resort was in an amazing location as it is right downtown Playa Del Carmen. You will want to leave the resort if you stay for 7+ days as there are only 3 restaurant options for dinner and basically ZERO nightlife. The evening entertainment shows usually start around 7 (while you’re having dinner) and at 11 everything shuts down, even the lobby bar. You are not allowed to stay in the lobby with friends to socialize or do it in your room either as it will be shut down. There is no theatre, no swim up pool bar, no way to make a dinner reservation unless you walk to a specific location by the lobby, only 1 area to get towels, the rooftop hot tub was broken… I also upgraded my room upon checking in and was not told about certain services. We paid $400 US and just had a small room upgrade where we met a couple that paid $200 US and got ocean front walk out, free cabana and liquor in their room. Although I was disappointed in many aspects of the hotel I had a great trip because of the people I met, the staff and I left the resort A LOT which made me trip very interesting. The only way I would stay here again instead of a normal hotel or an AirBnB however would be if I got it for much cheaper.

This is the second trip we have been on to a Panama Jack resort, and each time the experience has been unforgettable! The staff are extremely accommodating and very friendly, adding to the beautiful building and beach views. The entertainment staff, Nolberto and Sergio, are full of energy and make each day interesting with fun daily activities. Ninfa, the hostess of one of the restaurants was always there to greet us with a smile and make sure we were taken care of. All of the bartenders, waiters/waitresses, and other staff worked hard to ensure each guest has the perfect vacation. Our ocean-front room with a breathtaking view was cleaned each day very thoroughly, with cute towel animals and rose petals to make it even better! Overall, Panama Jack is the best option for a visit to paradise!!

You do have to pay extra. It comes with your choice of a bottle of tequila or champagne. It seemed to me that you were paid more attention to with drink or food service. (Side note) we didn't know this until our last day but you can order food for lunch that will be brought to you.
There are more places to choose from in the Playa del Carmen area.
