Just finishing on our last night of our 3 week honeymoon at the grand sunset and would like to say a massive shoutout to the servers in platinum bar, Margarita Velasco and Maria Gordillo who have been amazing and so attentive throughout our honeymoon. Both of the ladies are amazing and have really made us feel special throughout our stay by always being so smiley, lovely and just amazing women to be around. Margarita is an amazing server who learnt our regular order of drinks and would bring them to us without us even asking, which showed us how much she cared! Both of the ladies always have a smile on their face and definitely know how to make you smile in return! Two of the best staff that the grand sunset princess has! It was our second trip to the Grand Sunset Princess resort this year. Me and my wife are very pleased with the service and the amenities of the resort. Special thanks to our servers , they worked very hard to make our stays in June and November super enjoyable. We would like to send our thanks to Ulices Chitun , a wonderful young man ,who works at the La Hacienda restaurant, Miss Erica, who has the most beautiful smile in the whole world( works at the Riviera Sunset buffet), - thank you “Sunshine “, and the whole crew at the Chill Out restaurant for making our romantic dinner experience- unforgettable . Don't have your wedding here! The wedding organisers of the hotel are clueless. They dont know how to cater for clients. They just try and extortionate more money and don't follow the terms and conditions. Once you have paid the deposit that's when the problems start. Just to give you an idea of one of the problems, the wedding was on the beach and setup was to be made for the couple to wed on the wooden decking which was just situated near the water. Due to adverse weather it was decided by the hotel on the morning of the wedding the structure was unsafe. Instead of being accommodating and reassuring and try to sort an alternative out, they constantly demanded more money and were not willing to refund anything for items not used in the former venue. The set up of the food was a joke. They provided a snack between 5pm and 6pm followed by dinner at 6pm. The snack items were meant to served at 3pm just after the wedding. The terms and conditions clearly stated they if u bring in an outside vendor the hotel would charge an fee. That was fine.... oh no, they decided that if you bring in an outside vendor they will charge you for each person that arrive. So you bring in a DJ and 2 dhol drummers from one group they charge fore each person. Thats not what the terms and conditions state. The rooms seemed they needed a refurb. I wouldnt call it 5 stars at all. The buffet is grand but the quality of the food is rubbish. The upstairs restaurants are ok. Vegetarian options very limited and not always clearly marked. For a lads holiday maybe this place is ok but not for a wedding. …

We continue to have unforgettable times at the princess. We always want to praise the service because it's always been great! This was our 11+ stay and we are already booking for February. Yes there are wild animals and if u leave them alone, they will do the same for you. You can stay quiet or you can party. If you can't find food from one of the MANY options, it's probably time to look in the mirror (it's you that's the problem). Let me send some shout outs: At the villas pool, Yolanda was phenomenal. The gents at the villas concierge could not have been better. At Chill Out, our breakfasts by the ocean were made better by Ideifonso ( duck) and Absulon. Margarita and Maria were working there as well, all smiles and great vibes. The tram guys were awesome. Marisol at the Platinum bar was always ready to help us with a smile. We even got to see Neysi (an all time favorite)! And spend a few minutes with her. Great to see Vaca friends M&M!!!Last but not least, it genuinely made us feel like we were home again with Jesus (best concierge EVER) helping us settle in and enjoy every minute of our vacation to the fullest.…

This resort is so much fun!! Do not listen to a bad review here! Big shout outs to my favorite bar tenders Sabastion, Teroz, and Carlos. They work so hard and always smile and make a bit of time for you under extreme pressure to perform. The bar staff on the beach work so hard to keep the lineup's going quickly. The entertainment staff are absolutely amazing!! Tarek Yonk and ALL the crew who keep the games and activities are so amazing!! The energy, the vibe, and the emotion are all traits they bring to work every single day! I highly advise tipping this crew or leaving them a good review. They work hard to ensure your smile hurts at the end of the day. Highly advise the foam beach party, silent disco and the evening disco. I highly advise the evening disco. I don’t ever write reviews for anything but I think our experience is important to share and I’m hoping that if at least one person reads this, they can maybe think twice before booking. This was our first time staying at this resort. It was actually recommended on the Sunwing website as one of the top picks for Cancun. Although it had a couple pros, overall this resort was a let down for us. At first we were pretty angry with all the issues I’ll mention below, but then about 3 days in we realized that it’s more than likely a staffing shortage. Because there was so few staff, there was an unfortunate ripple effect of issues during our stay. The food was very low quality and was often cold and bland, especially at the buffets. The dish trays were not restocked very often, and there was no maintenance throughout the night—so foods were often spilling into other dishes and the countertops were sticky and covered in food. It was really unappealing to look at and then try to pick out pieces that hadn’t been mangled. The lines were incredibly long for drinks at any bar, no matter the time of day/night. We were waiting upwards of 20 minutes for drinks. The staff didn’t even let patrons sit at the bar and wait for a drink. We all had to line up single file and wait our turn. And there definitely weren’t enough bars, especially on the beach. The beach bar and the others usually only had 1 or 2 bartenders working, which is absurd for a resort, especially one as big as this. Of all the many times we hung out by the pool, we were only offered poolside drink service twice, and again the wait time was 20 minutes or more. (As well, the lounge chairs were 100% never hosed off or cleaned in any capacity which is pretty gross). There was also a really horrid smell throughout several places in the resort. We eventually figured it was the mangroves because the smell was like stagnant swamp and sewage. That smell could be found in the middle of the resort, near the beach bar, and in the ocean. (There was one spot in the ocean that was constantly bubbling and churning and turned the water brownish). The smell was horrible and we steered clear of it after the first day. Still not sure what was being pumped out. Not sure I want to know… By far the most disappointing thing for us was the service. For the most part the waitstaff were almost robotic. It really felt like they were exhausted and would rather be anywhere else. Most of them didn’t smile or engage. A couple times we asked if they were tired and they said yes. We asked if they were short staffed and they usually just replied “yes, very” and then continued on making drinks. It was really hard to see, but at the same time we paid a lot of money for a service that we weren’t really getting. I think the weirdest part of this resort was how early it died out. Maybe we just went at a quiet time of year, but music by the pool seemed to stop abruptly at 5pm, and most of the bars were shut down early as well. You really could only find drinks at the Tequila Bar (which is in a weird location behind one of the restaurants) or the lobby. The only place you could get drinks past 1030 was at the sports bar. It became a ghost town before the sun even went down which was a shock for a Cancun resort. Even the nightly “disco” at 1030 as advertised didn’t happen. I’m still not even sure where that was supposed to take place but I saw a couple people dancing maybe once while we were there. That was super disappointing. I don’t want to totally trash this resort either. There were some positives as well. The beach was beautiful and well maintained. The rooms were cleaned thouroughly each day as well. Some people disliked all the coati’s roaming the resort but we thought they were neat and fairly harmless (they did swarm when you had food, and they did knock over a couple drinks if left unattended). There was a lot of nature including monkeys, cats, boars, and iguanas. The sales people were not pushy once you said no to the service they were offering which was really appreciated. It was easy to book reservations for dinner through the QR code on the towel card or through the app. While most of the restaurants were a let down, La Hacienda was really good and I highly recommend that one above all else. A few of the nightly shows in the theatre were well done (we saw the Horror show and the International show). Overall I would not recommend this resort but I hope it can improve once they rectify the staffing shortage or whatever the root cause may be. With more staffing I think it has a lot of potential to be an awesome resort. …

The Coati were out of control at the resort and annoying. I would not return just for that reason. If you ate any food outside they swarmed you. There were no side tables with the pool chairs so if you put your drink on the ground they were right there drinking it or knocking it over. It is a very large resort so took a long time to get drinks either at the bar or served to you. Staff were friendly, food was good (dont order steak from the steakhouse as they were super thin) and beach was nice. My husband found the bed to be comfortable but I didn’t. We had a good vacation but just wouldn’t return. If you go on any excursions do not give your email address out on the forms they give you to complete. I have been receiving 500-700 spam emails a day since our excursion.
