The Hotel Grand Sunset Princess presents a varied atmosphere that caters to both vibrant and tranquil preferences, although parts of the property may seem worn. While the hotel's amenities, including pools, restaurants, and activities, are generally well-received, guests have called out the need for enhancements and repairs. The value proposition is met with criticism due to unexpected fees and disappointing premium experiences. Cleanliness is upheld, yet some have pointed out the aging décor and sporadic service issues.
Accommodations feature comfortable beds but suffer from datedness and maintenance concerns. The hotel's location is appreciated for its convenience to attractions, though navigating the expansive grounds can challenge the reliability of shuttle services. Service quality is inconsistent, with reports of both commendable and lackluster encounters.

Our first visit to Mexico and we booked this hotel as we had a family group of 4 adults and 3 children. My wife and myself had a swim up deluxe room and my daughter, son-in-law and their 3 kids had 2 interconnected deluxe rooms. First thing to note was the rooms are all studio style, so the children had to share a room (or cost would have been too high) which worked ok but isn’t ideal. Our swim up room was amazing if somewhat dated. Bed comfy, bathroom clean although jacuzzi bath looks very tired. Some broken tiles around the room but overall very comfortable. The balcony is visited daily by the local Coatis, which inevitably leads to some deposits, which the hotel staff happily clean up when asked. I would make a point here to the hotel that a simple solution would be to put some sort of screen or bristles between the rooms on the balcony walls which would prevent the coatis messing on the balconies or entering unlocked doors, which happened to a few guests, trashing their rooms. Also you could provide more info on the problems with the coatis to guests on arrival as they do become a nuisance. Hotel staff are generally amazing although it does become tiring to be asked multiple times if we want to use the spa. Over selling at its worst. The bar and restaurant staff again are generally great although our experience in the steak restaurant was they wanted you out so quick to get more in. Ruined that experience. Buffet food was really quite good, although the descriptions didn’t always match the item. But the quality was very good. For me the member of staff I would like to bring to the attention of the management for his excellent work is the pool guy who does an amazing job cleaning the pool daily outside the sunset swim ups. His efforts make sure the pool remains an absolutely delightful place to be in the heat here. I think the resort offers good value for the location which isn’t a cheap part of the country and would recommend it to family and friends. The grounds are stunningly beautiful and the staff work hard every day keeping it clean, tidy and well maintained

-family trip 2 adults and 2 children in a platinum room. -On arrival, you must carry your bags up to in the room. And of course no explanations, we will have to ask the concierge who are very available and kind. - There is not too much entertainment in the hotel ..... you really have to look... Damage As for the nautical activities included, forget we want to sell you all...... unfortunately. - The pools are very good and numerous, there is lack of shade around the pools, for the beaches it is good, but with pebbles, as pointed out in other comments. The hotel is clean is well maintained, but aging, the cleaning is well done, regarding breakfast, all is good is fresh for us, for lunch and dinner in the evening c more complicated is less good, but varied, for restaurants in the evening you have to book through the hotel website and identify yourself and no one will explain it to you. And the only restaurant of the hotel on the beach is outside is fully paid, I believe 5 euros the coffee........ When in the room we were in platinum with sea view the room is aging is not too maintained, defective equipment, with sea view, but in fact partial sea view, mangrove view first. The hotel is very large but the world is not felt. Platinum is not too justified because there is a significant price difference.

Very good experience, we stayed for 12 nights and were able to enjoy the hotel quite a lot. The hotel is large, but very well distributed and comfortable to get around. It has huge pools that are spread throughout the complex so you always find a place to be comfortable and away from people if you are looking for tranquility. The junior suite rooms are simple, but very functional. Very comfortable king size bed, double sink and very spacious shower. They have minibars that replenish daily and safes. The buffet is complete and varied, they cook very well. Unlike other resorts, à la carte restaurants are worth it. Variety of dishes to choose from, very careful presentation and quality food. Good service in general from the waiters who serve you. Special mention to Carlos from La Vaqueria restaurant, amazing attention. In the bars there are quite a variety of drinks that are included with the normal IT package, although in the pools throughout the day they sometimes run out of things. The waiters at the pool bars always prioritize attending American and English tourists first because of the tip issue, which causes you to delay at the bar quite a while. The foodtrucks are great, the burgers are great and not to mention the cochinita tacos... they are very worth it. The beach is not very big, but there are quite a few hammocks, so it is easy to find a hole. The hotel is very nice and very careful, you continually see the staff performing maintenance tasks so that everything is correct and clean. The gardens are beautiful, nice to walk there. If you are afraid of animals it is important to highlight that there are quite a few loose, during our stay especially we saw coatís (many) and at times it becomes a little overwhelming since as soon as you care they climb into the hammocks, they search in the bags, spill the glasses with drink... We also saw several iguanas and deer. Several times a day the hotel offers transportation to Playa del Carmen for 70 pesos the journey and person, if you go alone or as a couple it is worth taking since it is much cheaper than taking a taxi.
As negative points, perhaps more shaded areas would be needed near the pools, the heat and sun usually tighten and either you get up early to take good place or you have to spend the whole day in the sun.
The day of our departure left us a bittersweet taste; we met Jonathan, one of the waiters at the Sunset loby, charming. He prepared us a special farewell drink with mezcal, I wish I had met him days before! But also that same day, before we left, one of the trunks came to us and asked us if we could exchange Euro coins for a ticket, since they are not used to carry coins to the exchange. For doing him the favor we accepted and sinned as naive, he told us that it was 20 € in coins and we did not review it at that time, we trusted his word and surprise when already in the airport we see that there were only 15! Look at this, I don't think it's the first time they've done it...

Our family went to the Grand Sunset Princess from October 1 to 8 and we loved our stay. We were in block 2 which is very well located in the middle of the resort (beach and lobby). The resort is huge but works very well. The hotel is exemplary clean (toilet, restaurant, swimming pool, etc.) The food is incredible whether at the buffet or a la carte restaurant...a little special attention to Axel and Alberto from the Japanese restaurant who made us very happy. show!!!!. We went to Playa Del Carmen via a hotel shuttle which cost US$4 per person and we ate poutine at Los Tabarnacos while listening to a small hockey lineup!!! The sea was still good (not Cuba) but very warm and clear water after about twenty feet in the water because at the beginning a little rocky but works very well. There is a lot of entertainment from the staff and there is a sports bar which is excellent. There are a lot of Mexican raccoons that wander around in the spring, especially near places where there is food. They are to be watched because they search through bags at the beach, at the swimming pool and do not leave your food alone, even your drink!!! The service is exceptional, the staff is smiling and the resort is magnificent. Gracias Grand Sunset Princess....Hasta Pronto!!!!

The rooms were old and outdated, our first one flooded out to the sofa area when I showered and the 2nd one's patio door didn't lock an an animal got in. Tore open the coffee packs all over and got into my friend's medical bag. When the room flooded it took almost 4hrs for them to send the bellboy to help us move our rooms. I had to call at 11:30pm practically begging them to send someone because I wanted to sleep. Also there was poop on the balcony/patio of our second room the remainder of the week (4+days) that was never cleaned up.
The food was awful, I've been to a 4 or 5 all inclusives in Mexico and all had decent food, buffets were never fantastic but were good enough to eat at. This resort the buffets were awful, tasteless or off-tasting food. I've never had flavorless chili before. Unfortunately the restaurants weren't much better, the food tasted a bit better, but my risotto at the french restaurant was made with KD powder cheese, or at the very least looked and tasted identical to it which was gross. I will say the desserts tasted good though.
Their platnium package is NOT worth the money, the pool is a small rectangle maybe 30ft by 10ft and is regularly packed. It was disappointing for the additional price.
The pool outside of our first room had what looked like white tiles from the balconey, but when we went into the pool the next day we realized it was a BUNCH of missing tiles. Additionally the column jet pools they advertise are in disrepair, the ones closest to the rooms don't work at all, and the ones by the pool bars only have 2/12 jets working.
Tldr: Don't stay here, Mexico has many resorts in this area that are LEAGUES better that this one.

I would like to start by congratulating and mentioning the hard work of all the employees, whether in room service, in the restaurants, at reception or even at the various bars. The employees work very hard while being so friendly, welcoming, helpful and smiling. As soon as we arrived we were taken care of and welcomed like kings. The junior room was perfect for a couple very spacious with an incredible balcony view. The toilets were very large 2 sinks 2 mirrors perfect for two people getting ready at the same time. The room was spotless when we arrived with a functional coffee maker and well-stocked mini bar. Room service was provided every day without even complaining once and the mini bar was carefully stocked. For meals several options with two buffets offering a Huge variety of food which is suitable even for vegetarian/vegan/Halal restriction/etc. Small disappointment, although the à la carte restaurants pleasantly surprised us (especially the La Fleur restaurant), you have to book a day in advance and often there is not much room left. In terms of swimming pools, there are several on the site, making it a perfect place for couples, adults or families. The beach is very beautiful with bar and a corner offering food but only to help out because not much choice (fries, burgers, nachos). In short, a very warm, safe, clean place with a magnificent landscape. You will keep wonderful memories!

I read all the positive and negative information before choosing this hotel, and it turned out to be the best choice. This is a stunning hotel complex with plenty of bars, restaurants, and pools set in a beautiful tropical garden, where at any moment, you can see wild animals (iguanas, deer, monkeys, etc.) passing by. All restaurants serve huge portions of food with a wide variety and very good quality. The Sports Bar is open 24/7, so you can drop by for a drink or a meal even late at night or in the early morning. The beach is beautiful, and there are entertaining activities every day both here and at the pools. The complex also has quieter, shaded pools where those seeking tranquility can find the perfect spot. The staff is kind and professional, but they expect tips every time they serve us. Within the hotel, there are vast distances, but for those who don't enjoy walking, small buses are available to take them wherever they want to go. The hotel is about a 10-minute drive from Playa Del Carmen, and the area outside the hotel is completely deserted, nothing is within walking distance. TAxi to Playa del Carmen is 350 mex pesos. (20 usd). Our room was huge with a great balcony, they cleaned it every day and they filled up the minibar also, which is also free, part of the all inclusive service.

The hotel is completely "outdated", even the TVs in the room (which did not work ours), were among the oldest I have seen for years. You can tell the hotel hasn't had any renovations in years. The mediocre buffet, with all the food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) cold, without much change between day and day, very monotonous, boring, simple. The themed restaurants upstairs, laughing... with 3/4 first 3/4 seconds and 3/4 desserts, offered nothing but ABC and Asian, we had to get out of half a meal, how disgusting everything was. The hotel, especially on the beach side, was indecently dirty-I understand that a lot of guilt is on some guests and the lack of education of them, but not having staff to remedy it, seems bad. We were everywhere, surrounded by trash. The beach, daily, took more than 6/7 bottles or cans from the water and the shore, as many plastic cups, in an environment that is advertised as ecological and respected. A disgrace. There was also an unbearable smell of a sewage treatment plant on the beach (no one knew how to tell me the origin of that smell, but I blame it to a nearby water treatment plant for the ugly smell that was constantly there). The animation of the hotel is nonexistent- compared to other hotels in the Caribbean, here they all shone by their absence. In fact, my son, a fan of beach volleyball, dared the entertainer, to call him a blazer and could not play, because he said he was not the height. I had to talk to him, show him that I had the ability to play with grown people, and he wasn't much taller than my 10-year-old son--come on embarrassing! The culmination of the trip, was the idea of charging me almost 80 dollars for a late checkout, when I told them I was with children, the hotel was not full, my room told me it was empty, and we did not leave until 5 pm.. unheard of!

Do not let this resort fool you that it is a five star. If it wasn't for the horrendous service at the front desk, restaurants and bars I would have given it a three star. I go away 3+ times a year to all inclusive and this was by far the worst/most deceiving. Multiple times during our stay when we encountered the front desk they could not care less about your problems and made that very evident. No concern or respect for you what so ever. At the restaurants we would have a full meal and not be greeted once for a drink. I ALWAYS tip at all inclusive however this one made for a cheap trip. Pools were filthy, tiles falling off in each pool, grime on the sides, coating floating on the top. Each morning at resorts you always see staff cleaning the pools however not once did we see anyone cleaning the pools ever. Food was also one of the worst I've had when away especially in Mexico. Same food selections each day at the buffet. During our week stay was only able to get into one a la cart-the Mexican one. All others were booked for the 6 other days. Beds were horrible, there was not even a duvet cover in the room, just a top sheet to sleep with. Rooms were very damp, our sheets were cold for most nights due to this- our entire group left with horrible coughs. Lobby and grounds were beautiful however that's really the only positive thing I have to say. Our entire group (we had met close to 20 people and went with a group of friends) all said the same things about the horrible/lack of service. Save your money and choose elsewhere !!

My wife and I stayed at the Grand Sunset Princess Platinum suite for 2 weeks during April and May. The room we were first given was on the top floor but unfortunately the guest lift had broken down and we were informed that the hotel did not know when it would be repaired, so we changed to a ground floor room. (Negatives First) The room was a bit dated and the walls showed signs of damp, the air conditioning unit sounded like a coffee grinder when it was switched on. There was a lot of mosquitoes flying around the room and in the wardrobe space, the lack of accessible electrical sockets was noticeable. Outside on the patio area we were continually pestered by Coatis great to look at but always trying to enter your room or steal any food that was available. (Positives) That said the outside hot tub and patio space was great, we were visited by numerous wild life including deer and iguana just outside our patio wall area. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, the Platinum pool and bar comes with a drinks waiter service which was really good and both waiters and waitresses were friendly and efficient. The beach had a lot of sea grass washed up which was continually being scooped up by tractor and trailer. The Platinum area of the beach was well laid out with plenty of shade and sunbeds together with drinks waiter service made it a great place to visit. We tried most of the a la carte restaurants and enjoyed all of them with the exception of the Thai which we found lacked in food quality and service. All in all we both enjoyed our visit to Grand Sunset Princess and would have given 4 or 5 stars but for the quality of the room and faulty lift.
