Here is the thing. I've read a lot of reviews on here, the good, the bad, and the ugly, and I tend to agree with most of them. Here is the deal. You have to manage your expectations. This resort is a good option for FAMILIES WITH SMALL KIDS looking for lots of onsite activities. If you are looking for great service, top food choices and drinks, top notch facilities, you will be disappointed. The good: This resort is located in a beautiful jungle setting with lots of greenery, great tropical plants, cenotes, rivers. There are monkeys, peacocks, little animals roaming the premises. It has a very nice large water part, kids clubhouse, lots of table games. Included in your stay are free snorkling trips in the cenote, boat ride in the little river, bike ride, kayaking. Lots of families with kids. Kinds were entertained, and that's why it makes most sense for people with small kids. The beach is pretty decent. Would also add this is probably good value overall, but you get what you pay for. There is a hanging bridge over a cenote, several cenotes on site and small Mayan ruins all on site. Overall, very beautiful setting. The bad: Customer service I agree with a lot of people is pretty terrible. Workers just don't care, receptionist is not available especially at night. Changing a room for strong sewer smell took over an hour and lot of nerves and yelling and screaming at staff. There is no manager on site, so nobody to complain. And workers just don't give a crap. The food sucked, in the buffet and most of the restaurants, plain and simple. There is plenty of cheap beer, but otherwise no good quality drinks available (like whiskey, cognac, etc). The shows/entertainment were very mediocre, with exception of Michael Jackson show, which was decent.

Poor service and low standard food and drinks. The room had a stringent smell of urine coming from the mattress. We requested at the guest service to chance the mattress but they did not. The small pool in the adult only section was extremele dirty.

There were not a lot of adult options even though I paid for the upgraded adults only room. The adult section was a joke with barely any bar service. I had to walk through a restaurant to get drinks where people would look at me weird because I was dragging water through there eating area. The bars closed at midnight and the fridges were barely stocked for after. I felt like the entire time I was waiting around in lines because the efficiency at the main lobby was so slow. Noone explained anything to us about what to fill out and where to go for things. Overall I would have saved the money and stayed home for my week off. First time leaving the country will probably be my last.

As usual, I’ve enjoyed my trip to Sandos. Overall it’s not 5 star resort so don’t expect top notch food and service but for the price it’s a great place with lots of things to keep you and your family busy. If you love animals, that’s the place to go! Lots of cats, donkeys, pigs, sheep, wild monkeys, and more. One thing I did not like is people smoking wherever they want, even that there are assign smoking places and hotel staff not enforcing it on the smokers...

Was here 5 days. Yelp definitely has the most accurate reviews. Had it been about $200 less, I wouldn’t leave a review. I would chalk it up to getting what I paid for. But I feel like I got less than I paid for. The pros: beautiful property with plenty to do. Loved the “eco” aspect of this resort. It’s a lot of walking, but I enjoyed that. You had several pools, bikes, water activities, evening shows, etc. all those were very enjoyable. The staff was overall very nice and helpful. Our room in the adults only was everything we needed. Air conditioning worked, showers were hot. The jacuzzi was pretty janky and looked very dirty so we didn’t use that. The Cenota was really cool and the nature paths were beautiful. The cons: it took us 3 hours from when we arrived to getting to our room. We upgraded to the select club and was told we’d have private check in, then got here to find there was none. There hasn’t been any the whole time we’ve been here. So we stood in line for 3 hours to check in, then got to our room and our keys didn’t work. All the reservations for dinner were gone since you can’t reserve till you get here and check in takes so long. We were told our only option was the buffet. It was arguably some of the worst food I’ve ever had. We immediately felt sick. We chalked it up to just being a buffet, but across the board, the food is absolutely terrible here. Lunch was edible, but everything else was terrible. The Brazilian steakhouse that gets such good reviews was also the worst dinner (besides the buffet) we had. The meat was all undercooked and contained no flavor at all. It seemed that every restaurant (we tried most of them) was the same food, cooked different ways. So they don’t get better since it’s all the same. Drinks were fine if you’re not picky. Last comment is for the beach. I realize the resort can’t do much about it, but if you’re looking to bring your family here for the beach, find another place. The water in the swimming areas doesn’t get much deeper than knee high and is completely full of rocks and seaweed. The beds on the sand and the views were amazing. But, you were limited in your beach activities since it was so shallow and rocky. If getting in the water is not of interest to you, then this beach is perfect. We had a fine time and enjoyed ourselves, but I wouldn’t recommend this place and I will definitely never come back. Bring enough small bills to tip and buy things. Literally no one will give you change and the ATM only gives you $20s.

Dear jordansE47VC, We regret to read that the resort did not meet your expectations. We are working on the reception's processes to make the check in and check out faster and easier for our guests and we will review our food selection in all the restaurants, especially the buffet, in order to offer better experiences to our guests. The resort is an eco experience and has many activities in the jungle and in the cenotes, the beach is rocky but to enjoy a beautiful sandy beach you can visit Sandos Playacar for the day for free and live a different experience. We hope to have the chance to receive you again and be able to improve your perception. Regards. Giovanna Barbieri Quality Manager
