El Dorado Royale has garnered appreciation for its pristine grounds and variety of pools, with guests frequently commending the resort's cleanliness. Despite its beautiful setting, some travelers are disappointed by the outdated rooms and noise disturbances, alongside service inconsistencies that include slow room service and a less-than-helpful concierge. While the hotel's location is praised for its convenience to local attractions, many guests feel that the value is compromised by high costs and dining experiences that fail to impress. Additionally, the atmosphere receives mixed reviews, with some guests seeking more evening entertainment.

Amazing! We have been to Mexico and the Carribean over 15 times and this is the best resort so far. The food was amazing, from Cocotal for breakfast to the lunches and all the all a carte restaurants. Just know there are no buffets for dinner it's all a la carte. We loved both Italian restaurants and the Japanese restaurant Kampai. The steak house was very good too. Rooms service was also very good.
Every staff member was incredibly helpful and friendly. Couldn't ask for a better staff in all areas.
Tennis and pickleball. They turned one of the courts into three pickleball courts. The tennis court has fake grass and is well kept. Only down side is getting the lights turned on we were told was $50 USD/hour which is way too much. Loved playing on the tennis court though.
Pools there were so many and all well kept. Found the main pool too busy for our liking but the rest were all great.
The grounds are beautiful and perfectly maintained.
No bracelet or beach towel card made it so much more relaxing.
If you don't like to walk there are constant carts going around to ake you to where you are going. We liked to walk and it takes about 30 mins to walk from one end to the other. We were in building 12 right across from the tennis courts and it was nice and peaeful.
The rooms are very spacious with a jacuzzi tub in the room and a shower seperate in the bathroom. The beds are very comfortable as well.
If you don't like waves there is a protected part to swim in. You can walk for hours along the beach and its very safe.
There is a 2 free tours. You can use Nickelodeon water slides for a day. Also you get to take a catermaran from a different El Dorado location un Punta Maroma where you can snorkel and use that site for the day,
The nightly entertainment was good as well.
We have never gone to the same place twice but we will definitely go back to the El Dorado Royale.

Expensive resort style hotel with absolutely stunning grounds and charming helpful staff. We stayed for a fortnight and had swim up rooms of which there are many around the hotel. Some of these are better than others as the pool or lazy river does vary in width, quality and depth. The first rooms we had the swim up never seemed to be cleared of debris and given it was fairly windy this needed to be done daily . They did have good sun area but the rooms themselves were tired. After 3 days we were offered different rooms where the swim up pool was wider, relieved of its debris daily and seemed cleaner. This was near the health bar and on the main walkway opposite the sea. This would have been great but February was windy and cloudy although warm but the pool was a bit chilly when the sun left the area by lunchtime and blocked by the many palm trees . Also the sun beds sit on like a shallow water shelf in the pool. It’s not really possible to lie on the beds without the lounger sinking into the water. Appreciate this may be great when it’s mega hot but it wasn’t for us. These rooms were very slightly better but from our experience the 6 rooms we saw were all similar, very dated and definitely not 5 star quality or price tag. The beach has been completely ruined unless you think looking at concrete blocks in sea is attractive. There are however plenty sun beds and cabanas on beach. The pools are good, some lively, some chilled and the entertainment staff work hard and there’s always something on if you wish to partake. Location wise it’s about 35mins from Cancun airport and about 30 mins drive from Playa Del Carmen although Playa Morelos is about 15 mins drive.
The restaurants can’t be booked til you arrive and there is not really anywhere poolside that you may be able to get snacks or ice creams. Food was generally very good although not always hot and sometimes the portions small but you can always ask for more. To sum up it’s a good hotel with fantastic friendly staff but there is definitely room for improvement if it’s charging high prices and not delivering the quality 5 staff customers are paying for.

Resort is beautiful, very clean, surrounded by amazing beach. It is very close to the airport as well, and it takes around 25 minutes, so the location is ideal. We chose this place to celebrate our wedding anniversary and my big birthday, as we wanted to relax and enjoy beautiful sunshine. Th resort has great choice of restaurants, each provides excellent service and some amazing food, yes you need to reserve table, best to do all in advance, but personal concierge, are excellent with things like that. As we went in first half of September the resort was very quiet, plenty of spaces at pools or beach, but again, this is due to low capacity (I guess not the peak). And as much as I have enjoyed this resort I am not sure, if I would go back. Don't get me wrong, the place is beautiful, not cheap, but here is where my disappointment lays. We have paid over £5k for 10 days, which lets face, is not a cheap holiday, and then you get to a place and realise that you are excepted to tip everyone and everywhere. You go for a breakfast in a buffet, where you go get your food and waiter who brings your coffee first thing and cleans your plate, expect to be paid tip. You go to the swimming pool bar or any other bar (bare in mind this is all inclusive resort) and the expectations that every time you order you really should leave a tip, and trust me if you don't, they do ignore you. Same with waiters, they treat you very different, if they know you didn't leave a tip on the table the day before. I felt very uncomfortable, when employees of this resort say to you, that they rely on tips, as their wages are very low. I am not sure how this issue should be guests problem, which puts even more pressure on your relaxing holiday, after paying a lot of money to be there. This is to me is not acceptable, sorry. I understand in the restaurants, when you book your evening meal, and the service is exceptional, but not when you are in the swim up bar and you go to get a beer, or when you go for breakfast/lunch and fetch your own food. Honestly I wasn't aware of this before we left, so didn't really take much cash with me, as I guess it is all inclusive and if you go do shopping I would use my card. This culture of tipping everyone and everywhere, definitely spoils the experience. Just to give you an example, at the bar, you are more likely to be served first if you do hold a dollar bill, and it doesn't matter there were people in front of you. I have been on many all inclusive holidays (previous at Sandals), and I have never had this feeling, and it is a shame, as the resort is really beautiful.

We recently stayed at El Dorado Royale and had a fine experience. Somethings we wished we would have payed more attention to before choosing this venue are as follows: First, we wish we would have known how spread out everything is. If you desire to try different restaurants and actually use all the amenities offered, you will want to bring walking shoes, everything is VERY spread out. Secondly, they do have shuttle service from location to location but it was rare we could actually get a ride for our party of 8 all together at one time in a timely manner. During our stay the weather was a bit cold, mid-low 70's and cloudy. Therefore, the pool was quite chilly. The only place outdoors to get a drink required us to have a reservation at a restaurant or to get into the pool. Also, unless you pay an additional $50/day for a poolside cabaña you also do not receive waiter service unless you go up to the bar yourself. This was our first experience at an all inclusive resort but it was our friends 5th or 6th time...all of them said this was by far the worst and most frustrating experience. The app that they use for dinner reservations, map, and bar restocking doesn't work. The AC units don't keep up well and our room smelled musty. Overall we still had a nice time with our friends but we don't recommend this resort and won't be back.

I booked this trip because my friends chose the location for their wedding. All of the reviews online looked great and I was very excited.

The reality of this hotel is that it is not well kept and not luxury at all. For the price you are paying please just book somewhere else.

After the rehearsal for the wedding party, one of the other guests and I returned to our room being infested with bugs.

We called the front desk in a panic and all they did was send someone to spray the room full of chemicals. Did not offer to switch to a new room, did not apologize. Nothing.

It was not until we moved all of our items out of the room so they didn't get infested and WALKED to the front lobby that they finally stopped giving us the run around and moved us to a different room. We called the front desk to notify them at 11PM and we didn't get into our new room until 1AM.

The photos speak for themselves. Please save yourself the trouble and do not book here. It was an expensive waste of money and I only booked it because of my dear friend's wedding.

I tried to add a video of the insects in the room to show that they were flying around everywhere but tripadvior would only allow photos. Would you want to pay thousands for a weekend to sleep in a room that has bugs flying in your face? Is that a luxury experience??

Just so the hotel doesn't try to pretend like I was not a guest there I included a photo of my booking confirmation.

This very big resort is extremely well kept and very clean
The gardens are like being in a tropical forest with palm trees shrubs and grasses area that are bending looked after to a very high standard

The rooms are very clean and very spacious with very good room service.
The balcony’s are large enough to sit on with plenty of room to move around.
There’s a mini bar in the room that is topped up everyday, also bottled water is delivered to your room every day.
There are numerous pools around the resort with swim up pools. The pool water is very clean.
There are multiple restaurants for evening meals so many you are stuck for choise. The food is to a very high standard too.
Lunchtime you can also choose from a number of places to eat. All of which the food is very nice, you will also be stuck for choise.
The resort is very big and will take a few days to find your way about. There’s alway lots of staff around to ask for directions.
All of the resort staff were very friendly and polite.
There are consearge office’s dotted around the resort who can help with your restaurant bookings, or any thing else you need help with, all speak very good English.
The arrival and departure help with the bell boys moving of your suitcase is very well planned. They have lots of buggy’s (Golf carts) to help you mover around the resort. Likewise the buggy’s also deliver room service, & supplies around the resort.
You may find that certain areas of the resort may be booked up for a private wedding during your stay.

Fuentes Culinary Theater dinning experience is a must book at least once, on your holiday it is a outstanding show, with even better five course of food

Will be booking again in the future.

We’ve stayed in many all-inclusives across the Caribbean, and we’re writing this review with that experience in mind. Off the top, unless you opt to stay in the Casita section (at a higher cost), this resort is definitely not a 5-star property. We’d rate it a 3-star max.

Upon our mid-afternoon arrival, we were not offered any cold drinks or food, nor did we receive any orientation to the property. Our room keys were issued by the front desk, along with a brief mention of the resort’s app to book a la carte restaurants. This was a far cry from the warm welcomes and thorough introductions we’ve experienced elsewhere.

We were here when the property first opened about 20 years ago. Back then, it was much smaller and had an amazing adults-only vibe. Unfortunately, it seems that as the resort has grown quite large, it has lost much of the personal, intimate feel it once had. It’s now run down in many areas although the food was excellent as were the bulk of the staff members.

We booked through Air Canada Vacations and were initially assigned to Room 204, which was supposed to be a swim-up oceanfront suite. However, this room faces directly into the Health Bar, which wasn’t exactly the tropical paradise we envisioned. We asked if it was possible to switch rooms, understanding it might not be feasible. We were told that we could move the following day to another building with the same class of room. We packed up our belongings and were issued new room keys, only to find out the new room had been double-booked with another couple. After sorting out the confusion, we were relocated, but the process took nearly half a day.

The resort’s app is not user-friendly, making it more of a hassle than a helpful tool. Another notable issue was the golf carts. This resort is massive, and while golf cart shuttles are offered, they drive way too fast—particularly at night. It became a constant challenge to navigate the property without having to jump out of the way to avoid being run over.

We also had several maintenance issues in our room. The furniture was worn and stained, both in the room and around the resort. The dual sinks in our room drained very slowly, the room safe malfunctioned (it took two days to get repaired), and one of our swim-up pool lounge chairs was broken and unusable. It took multiple calls and two days to have it replaced.

Overall, while the resort offers a lot of amenities, it’s clear that maintenance and guest experience have taken a backseat to the sheer size of the property. If you're looking for a luxurious, 5-star experience, we’d recommend looking elsewhere unless you’re willing to splurge on a Casita room.

We stayed from 24th April - 09 May 2022, The travel agent at HD Travel Northwich was given our brief to find us an adults only, exclusive resort where we could relax, unwind and get some much needed chill time. Something exclusive, which we cereainly paid for.
This resort was not that.
It was without a doubt the loudest resort we have ever stayed on. 24hr noise, outside the hotel rooms. Rude American guests shouting when leaving their rooms, shouting when they are in their rooms, shouting again when returning to their rooms. Shouting in the pool, shouting in restaurants. Gardeners, maintenence staff cleaners and a constant convoy of golf buggies rattling past just outside the room meant this was not a place you could sleep.
Lost sleep can not be caught up on as the resort is continously noisy, weddings on most days meters from your room blasting out music, awful 90's dance music around the pools, and if you do manage to nod off on the sun beds you will be disturbed by rude entitled American guests. One day we had 2 guests working on laptops and making loud speaker calls on the sun bed next to us. There is a noticeably lack of shade anywhere on the resort, very few parasols around the pools but bali beds are available for £160 per day!
The beach has a real seaweed issue, preventing you swimming here. Dense mats of rotting smelling seaweed cover the beach. Mini diggers and an army of workers try and remove it daily, which only adds to the noise and the feel you are on a construction site. The beach is also has hundereds of ugly concrete structure all along its length. These are about 2m high concrete triangular concrete hurricane defenses that has washed ashore. They are a real eye sore and give the beach a feel of Ohma beach during WWII. I was expecting the landing craft to appear.
The food and service was very good. A good range of food and drink and the staff are lovely despite being constantly treated pretty badly by American guests.
The hotel room was dated but clean and comfortable. We experienced inconsistent filling of the mini bar unless we left dollars in the fridge every day. The cleaner didn't lock our room after cleaning our room one day.
There is also a constant undertone of selling you additional stuff while staying, massages, bali beds, memberships, return visits (not a chance).
The supplements in most of the restaurants on the resort was eye Watering. 80 dollars for a steak! You have to visit a concierge to book your restaurants for the upcoming week which enevitably also turns into a sales pitch.

El Dorado Royale, Mexico: A Stay with Potential, but Room for Improvement

Having recently stayed at El Dorado Royale, I was impressed by the cleanliness of the rooms and the resort overall. The housekeeping and maintenance teams deserve commendation for their dedication to ensuring a pristine environment, which set a strong foundation for what could have been a remarkable stay.

Unfortunately, the culinary experience fell far short of expectations for a resort of this caliber. Breakfast was particularly disappointing, with ice-cold eggs that were unappetizing. The overall lack of variety, overcooked meals, long waits for service, and unavailability of menu items suggested challenges in the kitchen, possibly related to new chefs and staff adjusting to their roles. While I understand that onboarding and training take time, these issues greatly impacted the dining experience.

Another area of concern was the resort’s reliance on its app for communication and service requests. While the concept is convenient, the execution was lacking. Messages sent through the app went unconfirmed and unvalidated, leaving guests unsure if their requests were acknowledged or being addressed. A more attentive and responsive approach to the app could have alleviated some frustrations during the stay.

Opportunities for Improvement:

1. Culinary Standards: Immediate attention is needed to ensure food is served at appropriate temperatures, with greater menu variety, consistency in preparation, and timely service. Implementing staff training programs and seeking feedback from guests could be beneficial.

2. Dining Operations: Consider streamlining processes to reduce wait times and enhance the guest experience. Offering daily specials or chef-curated menus could add excitement and mitigate issues with unavailable items.

3. App Responsiveness: The app has potential to streamline guest services, but it needs better integration with on-site operations. Ensuring timely responses and acknowledgment of guest requests through the app would improve satisfaction and trust in the system.

El Dorado Royale has the infrastructure and potential to deliver an exceptional luxury experience. While my stay had its challenges, I hope the resort takes these opportunities for growth seriously. Addressing these areas would elevate the guest experience and better align with the standards of a world-class destination.

Actually went a few years ago but never got around to reviewing it, so things may have changed since. This was my first all-inclusive resort experience, and it definitely set the bar high. Being adult only was a major plus. I like to enjoy my drinks and not be bothered by children. We got the swim up room which was worth the extra money for the experience. Now, anytime I look at other resorts, I have to get that option if it's available. The room was awesome. There was a hammock we could hang up over our swim up area which was very relaxing. If you want to take a break from public swimming and drinking, your own swim up comes in handy. We are friendly and social and decided to float down the swim up stream by other rooms and say hello to our neighbors. Since we were on a romantic getaway, the glass separating the jet tub from the bedroom was a nice touch. The grounds are beautiful, and well kept. The drinks were what you would expect of a resort. Lots of sugar, but I drink mostly straight shots with a chaser so I was not bothered. There were so many options for eating, we didn't get to all of them, and we were there for a week. The food was really good. The entertainment was also good with lots of onsite activities. We spent a little time on their beach which was small but not terrible. Saw a nice show at their venue. We also did a tequila tasting. The resort is located in a very active area, where all of the good excursions are a bus ride away. I don't remember if they are affiliated with the surrounding resorts, but we did go to sister resort for some activities. We really had no complaints. Maybe because when you don't know what to expect, everything is great. I have since been to 2 other resorts and my experience here is still at the top. I recommend this resort when ever other couples are talking about taking a vacation away from their kids.

Sorry I just saw this question. I normally use Lomas Travel but there are several dependable companies that you can use. My transfer is made through the resort since I am an Exotic Travelers member.

There was a rocky jetty separating parts of the beach where we were staying, but it really didn’t bother my wife or me. It doesn’t interfere with your time in the ocean.
