Me and a group of girls went for a bachelorette party, we had such an amazing time. The staff was wonderful and became friends with us that we felt as if we were hanging at someone's home. Great food, there was live music on Saturday so we stayed at the resort and had a great evening reducing our cab costs...

I stayed at Papaya Playa when my best friend got married there in October of 2015 during a terrible storm. The staff did everything they could to make us feel comfortable and were there for our every wish. Getting us umbrellas, closing off the eating areas so we stayed dry, and making sure the bride was happy. We stayed in...

Looking for a place where the booking is as expected? Where the yoga class starts exactly on time? Or where the red carpet will be rolled out on your way to dinner? Well then dont go to Papaya Playa Project. Here instead you will have e secluded location outside each room, plenty of staff, all the healthy options you need,...

Overall the property is beautiful with nice views from the beachfront. If you are expecting a 250$/ night room you will be sadly disappointed. The first room we were put in was not at all acceptable with a double bed and a poorly working A/C. The property is large and extends quite a distance on the beach. The beach has...

Location is great and the promise of a highly sustainable approach is there. The beach, the bar and the restaurant are very nice and having a drink before dinner listening the chilling music played is something worth it. However, the price doesn't match what you got for it, too expensive !! And we were extremely disappointed by the quality of...

I had visited the hotel on various occasions but this was my first time staying and we had an amazing time! I was celebrating my birthday with a group of friends and it was the perfect place for a group. Service was always friendly and helpful. Accommodations were comfortable and clean. We could all wander the grounds together or do...

If you are looking for a rustic yet comfortable, easy going place to unwind then this is a solid choice. Do not be prepared for luxury (I do agree that bedding was lacking and the lack availability of amenities like soap and shampoo on a daily basis could be improved), but it is comfortable. I travel often to Mexico and...

Not really sure how I feel about this resort. It is an eco friendly resort which I can appreciate but for the cost I expect the furnishings they do have to be top notch. I'm pretty sure they use a 10 threat count for their sheets. So uncomfortable. When the A/C is on its blowing right on you so you'r...

We went here for breakfast. Simple and fresh. They have an unbelievable restaurant Setting so almost everyone gets a beautiful view of the beach. It's also an eco preserve so it is all done in logs and wood for a very rustic feel. Worth a stop by for a meal

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Introducing, PAPAYA PLAYA, A DESIGN HOTELS™ PROJECT hitting Tulum, Mexico from December 6, 2011 to late 2012. Having sought far and wide for a place to create an authentic, nurturing experience, the 900 meter stretch of oceanfront paradise cocooned on the Caribbean coast of the Mayan Riviera was the perfect spot. Together with Emilio Heredia, owner of the existing Papaya Playa beach bungalow resort, Design Hotels™ is initiating the ultimate pop-up camp. Claus Sendlinger explains: “Our idea was to create a transitory, yet deeply culturally-rooted experience and we couldn’t have dreamed up a better place to make this happen. Capitalizing on the natural environment and multicultural character of Tulum, we quickly put together an international team of real visionaries, each enriching the experience with their own food, music, design or wellness concept. The enthusiasm and creative energy of everyone involved enabled us to renovate the camp and put together a holistic program within a very short period of time.” So come December, the authentic-pleasure seekers have a new raw-luxe camp they can sink and rub their feet into. Eighty-five cabañas have been renovated by the Design Hotels™ creative team. Integrating local materials and building techniques, they encourage its residents to soak in the warmth of the elements, both physically and mentally. The separation between man and nature diminishes in these rustic spaces while the perception of small indulgences – like high thread count sheets, flowing mosquito nets and thick towels – is heightened. The ultimate luxury in most of the cabañas, is the private porch, where hammocks gently swing guests into sync with Tulum’s laid-back rhythm. ... more   less
