The hotel is older but it is quaint in its own way. The room was clean. Bed was decent. Wifi was available which was important since Port Clements lacks cell service in most areas. The hosts were friendly. You can purchase breakfast from them and it was quite delicious. I'd recommend the omelette!

Urs, the owner, is an excellent chef and will make breakfast for guests, take them fishing for salmon and halibut as well as provide helpful advice for sight seers.
It is an older motel, in need of a few renovations but it's central location and Urs' and Diana's hospitality more than make up for the aged look. Kitchenettes are fully equipped and allowed our family of four to easily prepare our meals.
Graham island is a green, wet, verdant oasis of life that deserves more visitors!

This is good property for a one night stay. It's out of the way-downtown Port Clements is only accessible by vehicle. Its quiet. The rooms are small, as are the bathrooms but its clean and affordable. The owners/managers are super friendly and if there's anything you want to learn about the local sports fishing....all you have to do is ask!!

This place is dirty and the owner is rude. My room smelled like logger sweat and saw dust.
The owner didn't even want to give us a fishing license. This place is long overdue for a renovation. The owner advertises showers but good luck trying to get one. Really gives Port Clements a bad name. His only income comes from having non-local dirty tree planters stay here and calling them locals. Avoid at all costs.

I recently had the displeasure of spending a night at the Golden Spruce Motel. I realize the motel is very old but that is no excuse for the horrible smell ..the lumpy dirty carpet...and the suspected rat droppings. To put it mildly i could not wait to get out of there. I would not recommend this motel ever! And it is terribly overpriced ..$20.00 would have been too much

This place has kitchenettes, which is nice when there is only a pub in town. BUT it's old and dirty! The housekeeping is less than acceptable, they have left me without toilet paper for a day, no grabage bag, they don't bother to vaccume (unless I ask). The cupboards are gross, I feel like I have to clean the dishes when I take them out before I use them. The windows are moldy and the care taker is almost impossible to get ahold of half the time......I would find a B&B next time.....if there is a next time

We use the Golden Spruce as our home on Haida Gwaii for our forestry crew every year. Urs is a very hospitable host. He is a text book on the Islands and has his own very nice fishing boat available for exclusive charters, and the know how to catch fish safely in a beautiful but unforgiving environment. A greta option on the Charlottes.

My wife and I spent a week in the Queen Charlotte Islands/ Haida Gwaii, with Port Clements as our base. The owner of the Golden Spruce (Urs) was very friendly and treated us like family, very knowledgeable about the outdoors and surrounding attractions . We enjoyed our room that had a kitchen, various amenities (such as laundry etc.). This motel was very well maintained and was simple and clean. The vehicle we rented was missing a jack, Urs lent us one and insisted we have one while traveling the logging roads. For those of you who are coming to the Port Clements area, keep in mind the island operates on 'island time' do not expect the conveniences of the big cities. Over all excellent stay at the Golden Spruce and highly recommend staying there. We will certainly be back!

Obviously the Golden Spruce isn't a five-star motel, but it was one of the best bang for your buck motels or hotels I've stayed at on Haida Gwaii. The room was very clean, the staff warm and friendly, beds were comfortable and the kitchenette well-stocked with everything I needed. And they warmly welcomed my dog. All said, for the money, it was surprisingly comfortable.

We didn't plan our trip all that great for the last week. Called the motel later on in the day and were able to get the last room in the motel which needed to be cleaned before we arrived. We got there to be greeted by Urse and Diane. We ended up stay the whole week and with advise from them got to take in many beaches, hiking trails and different places around. Urse is also has a charter business we found out so we decided to go out and managed to catch our daily salmon limit. Urse also is the chief at the motel amazing breakfast and he chiefted up an amazing salmon dinner for us. Diana is great and super friendly..we totally enjoyed our stay and even though it's not fancy what so ever and lacking a few room amenities it is an great place to stay and we will return if ever back on the island. GREAT!!!
