We booked on the recommendation of my son who lives in Italy. The whole experience was very good. The accommodation is exceptionally clean and although not luxurious it is comfortable. The position, the surroundings, the whole atmosphere is delightful. The breakfast is first rate and should you try the restaurant ( just down the road) you will find this a...

Relaxing, quiet and perfect located. We enjoyed a lovely stay. The location is perfect as a agriturismo. Lago di Garda and all of the nice places are closeby and also Milan, Verona and Venezia are very good to get to. If you stay here, you can enjoy the silence and activity as the vinyard is being taken care of. 25...

An absolute gem of a restaurant - a short but very scenic drive through lovely countryside from Sirmione to an old world charming farmhouse set amongst family run vineyards. Friendlly and welcoming staff produced a quality meal with wonderful wines from the surrounding vineyard. Easily our best and most authentic meal of our 10 day trip to Italy. Really worth...

We just finished an absolutely wonderful week at Borgo San Donino and loved it! The rooms were clean and spacious, and the hotel staff was incredible in taking care of our every need. We had multiple dinners at the excellent Cascina Capuzza restaurant located a short walk away on the estate. We were pleasantly surprised by the high quality and...

The rooms are simple but roomy and comfortable. It was peaceful and relaxing with beautiful views and the sounds of nature. The bed was great and I slept wonderfully. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Meeting Lucca, the owner of the winery, is a treat. He has such passion for the land and the wine. The meals at Cascina...

This past June, I spent a wonderful week at Borgo San Donino, a wine and farm estate nestled in the historic landscape around Solferino and San Martino, where the famous battle for Italian independence tooj place (Jean-Henry Dunant founded the Red Cross after seeing the horrid aftermath of the battle). The rooms here are simple but comfortable, with good air-conditioning...

I absolutely loved this place; from the moment we arrived to check in, all the staff were so very friendly & helpful. The reception is at the restaurant & then we were taken to the accomodation, in a large old farm building. The rooms are huge; we had a large lounge/dining/kitchen with a high wooden ceiling, leading onto our spacious...

Converted farmhouse apartments far, far away from the bustle of the cities, yet close to Verona, Bologna, Valpolicella, and Lake Garda. On the premises are an excellent restaurant and a family-owned winery whose Lugana is superb. Within walking distance is the monument to the fallen of Solferino, with an ossuary and a museum. Breakfast in the common room downstairs. A...

We stayed here for a week while traveling on daily trips to Verona, Bologna, Modena and Garda Lake area. Our goal was to seek out wines, olive oil and vinegar to ship back home. Huge success. The owners of the hotel were wonder people who made every effort to be accommodating. The restaurant was one of the highlights of our...

Fabulous wine and environment, beautiful house. Everything we needed was in the house. The pool was very nice for the kids. Lots of place to play in the yard. At night quiet, so the children can sleep well. But above all, the people who work there were so kindly and helpful, they made everything happen that our stay was Fantasico! It...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Borgo San Donino was built around the pre-Romanesque church of the same name , dated 1280, the oldest in the town of Desenzano. The rectory was added in the 1400 and then various farm structures were also added up until the end of 1700. 11 apartments have been created maintaining however the original wall structure, these apartments have been furnished with made to measure furniture designed especially for them. All bed linen etc is made from hand sewn linen and natural cotton avoiding the use of any synthetic fabrics. On the walls there are various paintings containing mixtures of colour and clay which comes from our vineyards. At Borgo San Donino there aren’t any televisions, only sounds from nature. The large pool is situated in a charming position between the grove, the vineyard and the old summer stable, a short walk from the apartments so as not to disturb those who wish to rest. The estate is a small ecological oasis; hunting is not permitted on the grounds and this allows some wild species (rabbits, owls, pheasants, squirrels and foxes) to find a safe and peaceful place at Selva Capuzza. ... more   less

“We were upstairs, so we had the advantage of great views, but the ground floor rooms appear to have doors out to their own area with seating. So I'm sure each has its own advantages”

“Ask for the upper corner room with a view of the fields and the trees.”

“The facilities vary from room to room. Some had showers, no tub. Some had no tub but a shower. Keep in mind that these are rebuilt ancient buildings and there will be some fun/frustrating experiences. No phone anywhere, limited internet, no TV. Be sure to ask to see the 12th century church on the property. Very small but lovely.”
