Getting there
Somewhat walkable
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
The reception was very pleasant and fast, the rooms are small but they were delivered to us impeccable and very fresh, and it is equipped with a minibar, coffee maker, hair dryer, ironing board and iron, as well as products in the shower and toilet. There are several unmissable restaurants with reservations, Asian food, Brazilian rodizio, Italian... the food at the buffet is also good, although I still have a bit of a problem with the cold cuts. The entertainers and dancers try their best, the shows are good and the artists who sang, simply amazing (honorable mention for the Michael Jackson impersonator and for the singer who performed My way). The beach is very wide, but the sea has too many waves and strong currents, it is not ideal for swimming, which is why people concentrate in the pools. The most notable thing, as in other Mexican destinations, is the warmth and kindness of the staff...we particularly remember Fernando and Saúl at the Zai restaurant and the waiters at Café Solaris and the bartenders in general, they all make you feel welcome and welcome you. They serve like a king.

This is a nice Resort and the service is absolutely great. The staff was hit and miss friendly, but they all work very hard. Ramon was our server by the pool and was amazing at conversing, remembering our drinks and always smiling and joking. Alejo at the buffet always greeted us with a big smile and had our drinks on the way without ordering. The ladies serving drinks at the Lobby Bar in the evening also deserve a mention. Our room was clean and linens changed regularly. We did have to call twice out of the week to have our mini bar stocked with more water, but it could have just been a timing issue. We enjoyed Panchos Mexican Restaurant. We chose not to book any other ala carte, as we didn’t want to have a schedule but the times were definitely later than we would have wanted to book. The nightly shows were entertaining , the Michael Jackson show was great the whole theater was singing. We are early risers and were at the pool by 7am. You were not allowed to “save” seats before 8am if you weren’t sitting in them they did take your towels and moved your belongings off the chairs. Depending on the day there were lots of seats still available past 9am, but we did see lots of people did save seats and not return. The Buffet food was average but there was always fresh fruit and vegetables. If something was running low, we would wait about five minutes and they usually had it topped up. The snack bar always had fresh salsa and fresh fruit. Sometimes it was a bit repetitive but we could have visited the lunch buffet. The coffee bar was great serving lattes, iced coffee and a few light snacks. We had a great pool view room on the third floor and it overlooked the kids club on the opposite side. Our room had a Murphy bed which was nice for our family. We found the resort the perfect size, everything a short walk. I read a lot of reviews about the time share selling and was on high alert. Angel greeted us at check in and he was transparent in our five minute sit down and we said we were not interested at the time and he did not press the issue. We were not bothered by anyone in the lobby after our initial “no”. I did speak with quite a few gold members over the week and all of them had been members 10 + years and all were happy with their membership and had no complaints. Most of them said the resort was mostly young families or retirement aged people and not the crazy party crowd, I would agree this is the demographic we saw as well. We would return and recommend this resort to families and will visit again.

The Royal Solaris was a great place to stay! We visited Feb. 2023 and stayed on the 6th floor overlooking the ocean and large pool. The staff was so friendly and ready to help in anyway they could. Easy and quick check-in. We had no one at the resort bother us about a tour or anything like that. The room was so nice. It had an updated, lovely bathroom with several useful ammenities such as double mirror on wall and retractable clothes line in the shower. We always had plenty of hot water in the shower. We had a king size bed; a little hard, but not terrible with plenty of pillows.
They offer several restaurants with reservations but we only ate at the buffet /Cafe Solaris. The food was good. The wait-staff was exceptional; very friendly and ready to get whatever you needed. The manager was quite friendlty and always there to seat you and offer a greeting; quite delightful. While we were there it was Valentines Day and SuperBowl weekend. The resort had exceptional celebrations for both. The SuperBowl party had a large TV in a large room for viewing, plenty of tables and chairs to sit, with a buffet of party food including desserts in the lobby with plenty of beer and drinks. Also at the pool one day they had a wine and cheese party with a Harp player playing hit rock songs, which was quite fun. Never heard GNR's "Sweet Child 'O Mine" played on a Harp before.
I highly recommend the Royal Solaris. The employees are so kind and friendly and it was a very clean and safe place to stay. The resort makes the stay fun. You can easily walk to shopping across the street and a short drive will take you to a clean, cute downtown which has a fun Art Walk on Thursdays. We rented a car from Cactus, which was great. We did a lot of local walking around the area too, away from the hotel, and felt safe

The staff were super. The hotel was looking it age but well maintained, the rooms were nice but the pillows on the bed were small and hard. The mattress was uncomfortable. As a guest and not a member, your experience will be different. Forget getting into dinner at one of the on site restaurants if you are a guest and not a member, you will have to have dinner outside of the resort, budget for that. The buffet was good and the food was nice but not for dinner. Make sure you arrange transport to and from the airport as if you don't you might get caught in a scam and spend $110.00 US on nothing. We unfortunately did and it left a bad taste in our mouth for the trip and let's face it you feel stupid for getting taken advantage of. Beach was beautiful as was the weather and the pool. You will however have to get up at 6 am and save loungers at the pool as the members all get up with their yellow towels and take every lounger in sight. You will know who the none members are by there green towels. Walk to town was about 20 minutes and pleasant. The town is quaint and has allot of things to see.

This hotel is not 5 stars nor do I recommend it for the following reasons: 1. As for food, there is no variety. Whether lunch or dinner, for children you will only find chicken nuggets or cold sandwiches in a corner of the main restaurant. For adults, it was impossible for us to reserve one of the 3 a la carte restaurants because there was never availability or there was only time until 9 pm, the last time available. My theory is that the schedules are reserved for the members. That said, we always had to have lunch and dinner in the same restaurant where we had breakfast. The “variety” consisted of the fact that at lunchtime they will always give you tacos of some kind (including potato tacos as the star product) and at night, if it suits you, there will be pastor tacos and very limited salads. Of fruit and not to mention. Being an all-inclusive, we had to go out to dinner in the surrounding restaurants, getting pleasant surprises. 2. Cleanliness of rooms leaves much to be desired. If you don't put up the “please, clean this room” sign, absolutely no one will clean your room (and the reception doesn't warn you about it). Once we put it in, our room was never swept properly. 3. Young Federico, who distributes ice cream at the pool, promised to return with the ice cream just when it was my son's turn because he ran out of cones. My son, a 4-year-old boy, was left wanting to eat his ice cream and the boy never came back. I suppose, because I saw it later, that it was convenient for him to give ice cream to foreigners in the hope of receiving a tip. In general, and apart from the pool and children's area which are spectacular, I would not recommend this hotel. If you are thinking of eating well like in other hotel chains, this is not the option.

The whole experience was terrible, from the moment we arrived, we had a private car and no one helped us with the suitcases, the check-in took a long time, they handed over the keys backwards (we had 2 reservations) in which it was specified that the marriage with the girl required a bed. king and additional bed and my room in which I shared with my mother required two beds, this was specified by email from the reservation and confirmed a day before by telephone, when requesting the extra bed Ana, the receptionist made the comment that it would already be list and that we considered that they gave us a higher category than what we had paid for… thank you?? The comment was not necessary or in any case they could have handled a special upgrade or not given it if it was so much trouble for the hotel to grant it, they never explained the facilities, schedules, amenities, they only gave us the map and asked us to check what there was. open.
Once in the room, it took more than 30 minutes to deliver our suitcases. The first night was terrible, you could hear everything from the side of the room, doors slamming, the shower, the TV, etc. We couldn't sleep. In general, the attitude of the employees was bad, there was no service attitude, they made faces if you asked them or asked something, there were not enough waiters at the pool, no hostess was friendly, especially the breakfast hostess; just a waiter named Aaron? at breakfasts with glasses (super attentive).
The food was bad, the buffet was never stocked, there were not enough dishes, it was a wait of at least 30 min to get a decent meal, the alcoholic drinks were tasteless, we ended up only ordering beers. To top it off, I left my AirPods forgotten in room 416, a few hours after check out (December 23) the location showed Col Zacatal, I don't know if Rosa the maid or someone else with access to the room took them and decided to take them home , I immediately notified them and they asked me to send an email to begin the "inquiries"... I have been waiting for a resolution for 5 days despite having sent the location from time to time, I have no longer had a response to any of my emails since December 24th!!
The only redeemable thing is the night show, in short I will not return!!

I looked at various family resorts prior to booking at Royal Solaris. The amenities for the kids are what drew us in but after staying there I would not recommend this resort.
First of all, you would assume that the AC would be turned on to the highest level for a location having 100 degree weather. Nope. They had it on but barely . It felt like you were in an oven at the common areas and restaurants. My child has sensitive skin and would always develop a skin rash because of the heat. Even the room AC would take forever to cool. The pool water also felt hot so there was really no place to escape the heat.
The service was hit or miss. In some instances it felt like the workers were upset that we were talking to them in English or acted like they knew no English. Nothing stood as above average service when we were there. I'm not sure if the fact the a lot a Mexican families stay here had anything to do with the service.
Lastly, the reservation system for the restaurants is a joke. The workers are intentional lying on when and how to book a reservation. I wont go into the details but the resort is trying to funnel people into the buffet instead of the restaurants so they don't have to pay for additional servers and customized food. The only time we were able to get a reservation is when we went to the front desk. Even then the restaurants would be empty and in some instances the food was the same at the buffet.

While I do have to admit, the staff is top notch and the shows are ok, the food is horrible. The buffet serves cold, very basic, hardly edible food. The pizza near the pool is ok if you want to wait over an hour in line. The “specialty” restaurants are always half empty yet they make you wait 30 minutes for a table and even there, the food is subpar.
This is the only vacation I’ve been on that I won’t go home even a pound heavier. Not a win I was hoping for!
The beach is nice in regards to the sand and cleanliness , but the waves are up there and you have to travel a good 15-20 min via taxi to go to a swimmable beach.
As usual there are never enough pool lounges to go around and people are up bright and early to claim theirs for the day yet never actually sit on them…
A bit outdated, but the staff keep the resort clean. Beautiful landscaping…but I don’t often go to Mexico to see the resort’s landscaping.

I have been to many, many all inclusive resorts throughout Mexico and the Caribbean and this place is the worst. I guess I can start with the food. We ate at the Mexican, the Italian and the oriental one. The Oriental was the only one that was decent. Breakfast in the buffet was ok , but you really can’t ruin breakfast. The food seemed low quality is all places. Next are the bars. There is a pool bar that doesn’t open until 10am and closes at 6. Then there is a beach bar that doesn’t open until noon and again closes at 6. The 3 rd and final bar is in the lobby of the hotel and again doesn’t open until 10. I think that closing 2 of the 3 bars at 6pm is crazy and only leaves one alternative. The only beer they serve is Tecate light and dark on tap and it is ONLY served in a small plastic cup that they recycle. The cocktails are also served in this same I would say 6oz cup. The Cabernet wine they serve is awful 12% alcohol with a very strange taste. The room was acceptable and bed was comfortable. I hope people read this before making plans to stay there. The only reason I booked was because it was a promotion I received for buying a timeshare in another great resort for $99 dollars plus all inclusive fee of 112 a day which was required.

Terrible service and expereince! I really wanted to love this place but that is impossible. First the check in processes is an early indication you made a bad choice. The gentleman checking us in was visibly irritated, and while waiting in line to check in, another guest cut him off while working with us and he took the opportunity to help him do the same thing he was doing for us. Granted this guest was a bit rude, but the employee should have told him, give me a moment and I will be happy to help you.
Then the luggage delivery to the room, guess what, one bag was missing. The bell man stated that is all that you gave me, I don't have any other bags. "No one touches the cart once it is in the luggage room". So I make my way to the front desk, and as I am on the way there, my wife calls and said, he brought the additional bag. They "found it".
Leets get to the room...Dont bother paying a dime more for any upgrades like we did, since our other travel companions got better rooms in lower categories. We upgraded to ocean view premier, and I guess the premier means there is a palm tree right smack dab in the center of your room. When we asked to upgrade, they told us that they could move us to another room that normally costs 400 more total, but they would give us a deal and do half off since we have had a bad start to our trip. I agreed and the gal showing the room was very kind. She also helped us rectify our costco pre-made dinner reservation for Marco Polo since our party was scattered everywhere. So we thank her and moved on with our day.
Marco Polo dinner night was a disaster. We arrive on time, to be told that only 5 of our party of 8 is confirmed for Marco Polo. I told the gentleman that we had received a call from the manager stating it was all taken care of the night before. Miguel, the manager was rude and told us, "well they didn't do what they told you they would". He then had us move to the side so he could help others because they were "at capacity". Capacity is a joke, the inner dinning room had maybe 8 guests, and the outer space was He texted the manager but of course there was no response. After waiting for 15 minutes he then "did us a favor" and sat us at the empty table outside for service.
The pizza by the pool, well good luck there. One day it was by order only, the next day there was no more ordering it was take a slice as it comes out. Terrible organization, and unwilling to take care of the guests. This is a terrible resort and the adage "you get what you pay for" certainly doesn't apply for how much we spent here. I am reluctant to publish this review until we leave because if the first 2 days is any indication, there will be a whole lot more to write about.

Hi, I am currently at Solaris in San Jose del Cabo. Yes, you can fish off the beach. No permit is needed. I know there is at least 1 pole available from the bell captain to borrow. I'm not sure about bait and lures. Hope this helps.
It is, or similar to a timeshare. They did give an option for a presentation, we asked the kids if they wanted to give up 90 min to hear the pitch in exchange for going on another excursion. Surprisingly they said yes & told them to take notes so se can discuss it as a learning moment. To our surprise the presentation was performed well, it was exactly 90 min & the excursion we went on was what we expected. We did not buy in but could see appeal for some. One very disappointing part to the hotel is it’s impossible to get reservations to the restaurants. We did get reservations the first couple of nights as the company pitching the time shared has some reservations before we saw the presentation. However the restaurants were at 1/4 capacity & I can assume the unfilled reservations are reserved for members of the “timeshare”.
There are more places to choose from in the San Jose del Cabo area.
