I've stayed at Hotel Ave del Paraiso at the beginning of my trip, at the end of November and it was really a pleasure to stay few days in this hotel in the middle of San Jose.
I feared a little bit the big city...More
This is a really pretty property, just steps away from the UCR campus. It has several different buildings, including some private cabañas (we stayed in one), and lovely gardens.
Our room included a reasonably comfortable bed, ceiling fan, fridge and tv. Bathroom was small and...More
The Ave del Paraiso gives a flavour of Costa Rica in an area where the choice is limited. The garden, terraces and superior rooms are all great assets. The staff is friendly. On the downside: the traffic noise from the nearby road, and breakfast is...More

There is a courtyard with a grassy area and some artwork and there is a picnic table where you could sit outside and read. There is also an outdoor patio with some tables and chairs next to the breakfast area where you could sit. There is a lot of open space so I think you could probably find a spot to enjoy the nice weather. Also if you walk out of the hotel parking lot and turn left, it is a very short walk to the main campus for UCR and there are lots of grassy areas, benches, etc. to enjoy on campus. To find out about the cancellation policy, I would advise that you email the hotel directly. They were prompt in replying to my questions prior to our trip.
