I came to Catalonia Yucatan Beach Hotel at the end of Feb with my sister and we both had such a lovely time. We would definitely stay here again!
The hotel is very beautiful. The rooms are clean and spacious, the water pressure is very strong in the bathroom. The room has a mini fridge (stocked with bottled drinking water daily) a safe and hangers in the wardrobe. The rooms are a little outdated, but I spent no time in the room at all, so this didn’t matter to me.
The staff are wonderful, very friendly and very helpful.
The food at the buffet is delicious, we ate there every day! We didn’t try the burger restaurant or the Italian because we loved the buffet so much. However, we did try the Mexican restaurant and that was nice too. You have to book the restaurants at 8am for the same evening and often the spaces get booked quickly, so ensure you plan if you want to eat there.
There are many bars with a large cocktail list, the creperie and the food truck, which are all delicious too!
Beach towels are provided by the pool, you are given a card to swap for towels. Note: if you loose your towel, you have to pay for a replacement.
We got a massage on the beach, which was so nice! However, the massage package and price list provided by the hotel is very expensive ($140 per hour). However there is a small massage place at the bottom of the beach just outside of the hotel which offers massages for $45. We chose this option and it was very good!
There’s many activities throughout the day, beach volleyball, yoga, aqua gym etc. There is also evening entertainment at 9.30pm each evening in the theatre and a weekly beach party which is a lot of fun.
The sand on the beach is white and the sea is crystal clear. The views are truly beautiful!
We didn’t feel the need to leave the hotel much as everything we needed was here. However, we did hear there was a bus you can get into playa del carmen if you wanted to travel into town. You can also book taxi’s if you would prefer that means of transport.
There is a marina very close to the hotel which has a dolphin discovery, bars, restaurant and little souvenir shops too if you wanted to eat outside of the hotel.
We had a really wonderful holiday here, I would recommend and will come again!

The site is beautiful, the rooms are ok but only water in the fridge that hardly works so no cold water. The beds in our room were old and curved. The beach is rocky but with the wave breezes we were able to access the sea despite the high winds. The buffets are repetitive and not very varied. No beef except ground, no way to get a latte unless you have pesos or at 2:00 pm tse when it takes 38 degrees. The unsmiling service staff except some (always the same) with the exception of the animators who are very friendly. On the weekend the show is very close to the rooms not possible to sleep before 11:30. It's hard to book a la carte restaurants. The privilege system gives priority this annoying, no access to everything despite the indications on the site some places reserved for exclusive members such as the sports club and some restaurants.

We just got back from Catalonia Yucatan Beach resort (Feb 2024). Was hesitant when booking because of some of the reviews that I read, but we were pleasantly surprised. This is a four-star resort, not a five star resort. Some of the negative comments are things that you should expect at this price point. Positives are: It's located only a 5 minute walk into the town of Puerto aventuras. We love this and went in almost every day. If you get tired of the buffet dinners, go into town where there are lots of options. Town is very safe. We rented golf carts and went all over. Gated community with security. There is a dolphin sanctuary in town that we enjoyed. This resort has two sides, the Yucatan side gets green bracelets and the other side gets blue bracelets. Bracelets. You can use the facilities and the beaches on both sides, and the buffet on sides The other side has more options for à la carte but your vacation cost is approx $100 more per person. Food was decent, service was good . You can snorkel right off the beach which was heavenly. Bring water shoes, parts of the beach are a bit rockey. Some negatives were room was basic and a bit dated, however, they were always clean and beds are comfortable. Buffet didn't have a ton of variety but food was good and fresh. The app to book dinner reservations only worked one time for us. We have stayed at more expensive places like hard rock and royalton that are of course better but you pay double the price. Both my partner and I gave this place a 7/10 and with the location being so close to town, that bumped it up to an 8/10. Some reviews on here trashing the place are just crazy. People seem to complain about not getting things that they didn't pay for. People reserve chairs early by dropping towels (like every resort) however, there is a staff that tried to stay on top of it and will remove your towels if you drop them and don't come back for a few hours. Don't expect to pay for the cheapest place and get complete luxury. This was good value for the money and we would come back. We booked the spa which was a bit pricy for what you get. If you are a huge spa person, go to the Hard Rock instead.

Hotel is in a lovely location by a marina. The rooms need updating. One of the buffet restaurants was closed while it was being refurbished so the other buffet restaurants was always packed. You had to wait to be seated in the buffet restaurants which is totally a waste of time and often get seated in the most inappropriate place. Unable to get in the sea or go on the beach fie to the seaweed which we knew about but the hotels defence barrier was totally useless. The next door hotel was much better at defending the seaweed and their beach was always clear

I’m so disheartened by this experience I am writing this review sitting at the pool. This is not a 4 star resort. I had read it was dated but didn’t expect it to be this dated. The room: it’s a good size with a nice balcony overlooking the pool and a very comfortable bed, but if you overdo the drink or sun and need to spend some time in the room be prepared to be bored-the TV is sporadic at best so you’ll be staring at the walls. The bathroom fixtures appear to have never been updated to a point where the finish has worn off of them so they look permanently stained. The sink tap sprays everywhere , the tub shower mechanism didn’t stay up and both the sink and tub drains back up. The drinks taste like chemicals, beer is the safest choice but they only serve draft beer. They do not serve alcohol before 11 am. The food isn’t great and the staff constantly has to be told when something as simple as syrup runs out, it’s Impossible to get a reservation at any restaurant that isn’t the buffet. Last night a cockroach crawled across our table while eating at the buffet-needless to say we lost our appetites. We were invited to a virtual concierge by Sunwing our first full day there, we logged onto with a few other couples and no Sunwing concierge ever joined so we were left to figure things out on our own. I tried multiple calls and chats through the Sunwing app and never spoke to anyone. It felt like once we landed in Mexico, Sunwing customer service disappeared. I will never fly Sunwing or book a Catalonia property again.

Stayed in the yucatan beach side. That was a mistake . No coffee or anything but water in our room. Room run down and noisy. Not enough chairs at beach or pool. Bars don’t open until 11 am so no nothing but water to drink except if you go into buffet. Had to walk to other side to get coffee in the morning. Maid cleaned well, but asked for extra blanket from desk first day and never received it. Buffet was decent but always the same; good thing we are not picky about food. Snack bar was terrible. Creperie stand at pool was a highlight!! If you stay at yucatan side you cannot use their buffet or bars and you have Mexican or Italian for a la carte which at booked within 3 minutes of becoming available on app to book. Resort gardens were clean and well maintained. We enjoyed the snorkeling and most of all what made our trip was that we could walk to the marina (resort is in a gated community that was large and safe). They have a dolphin place where you can really enjoy them without paying, or pay to get in the water with them . We had great pizza there and walked there every day and really enjoyed the atmosphere outside the resort and its safety.

We have traveled all over the world and we have never experienced a situation like this, in third/second world countries it is normal for hotels to lose some stars but not all of them. We arrived around 10 pm local time with 3 families of friends. Having reserved 4 rooms. They tell us to tell them which suitcases go with which family and then they will take them to the room. They assign us rooms, having to find our way to get to them since no one accompanies us or tells us how to get there. We arrived at the brisa buffet at 10:23 p.m. and they didn't want to let us in since it closed at 10:30 p.m. We tell them that we have just arrived from Spain and that we would like to eat, they very reluctantly allow us access and 4 people begin to quickly remove the food. Having to dine on the remains that were left. We walk around the hotel to see the facilities and around 11:30 p.m. we see that my family's 4 suitcases are abandoned in the parking lot, with no one there. I ask at reception and they tell me, "I don't know, have they been taken?" They'll take them away. Therefore, any vehicle could arrive and take them (there is no one next to them) and they cannot be seen from reception since they are under some stairs, we opted to transport them ourselves to the room. We see that the room they have assigned us corresponds to the pensions that were in Spain 30 years ago, but since we are very tired from the trip, the children are asleep, and there is only the reception, we slept in that room that night and we will solve the problem. problem the next day. The next day we checked room 1132 and 1134 and found that there are areas of the floor that do not have flooring, broken tiles, there are cockroaches, the mirrors with large stains, mold in the vents, the ceilings are discolored with very old removable areas, the faucets The shower moves when it is opened, it seems like it is going to fall, there is a strong musty smell, it has a dirty 30-year-old bathtub, there are no bath towels,… The next day they offered us other rooms more similar to the photos that the hotel has on its website but we decided to change hotels since they are very very old.

Reposting this review so it makes sense. I was super upset when I wrote the first one and realize now it has a lot of mistakes.
Just don’t.
The only good things are the place seems clean and the staff are nice.
You can’t book and get a reservation at any of the a la cart restaurants. At all. Not just us, lots of people complaining. Talking to the front desk was useless. When we booked we were told we could go to any of the restaurants between the two resorts. Then, they use the tiny disclaimer on the website saying this policy is subject to change and we find out we can only go to two. Then we couldn't get anything booked for those! I will say after a lot of complaining and them telling us there was nothing they could do they did book us a reservation at one and slip it in the door of our room.
Also, I would feel awful for anyone who is not "tech-savvy" because the only way to book is to use a QR code and the site is sooo frustrating. If it had been my parents in the situation they would have been out of luck.
If you aren’t down to the pool by 6am you will not get a seat. They have signs up saying you can’t do that but guests ignore them and they do nothing about it. Seats stay unused all day.
The drinks are all made with sucralose and taste awful and turn your stomach.
They let another guest bring his big speaker to the quiet pool and blast it.
The fruit at the buffet is really good, but the rest might as well be food in Cuba.
They close everything down very very early. Pools, bars, food.
There seems to be all kinds of different coloured wrist bands and they give you no option to upgrade once you are here and then they limit you so much depending on your “level”. It’s really frustrating and confusing.
I am not sure how this place has such a high rating and so many good reviews. Feels very AI to since everyone we spoke to there felt the same as us. They all felt "duped" by the ratings online.
I would never come back.

We're really sorry to hear about your disappointing experiences at the resort. It sounds like there were numerous issues, from the difficulty in booking restaurant reservations and the lack of pool chairs to the poor quality of drinks and the early closures of amenities. 😔 It's understandable that these problems would significantly impact your enjoyment of the trip, especially when you feel misled by the high ratings and reviews. The frustration with the different wristband levels and the lack of options to upgrade once there must have been particularly annoying. We hope your next vacations will be much more enjoyable and meet your expectations. Are you considering any other destinations or resorts for your future travels? Maybe we can help you find places that better align with your preferences.

This resort was sold back in November. I had, back in November, purchased my tickets and asked for a room with a shower due to my sister's disabilities. Upon our arrival, the receptionist was adamant that this had not been requested. My travel agent sent me a copy of the request but the agent at the Catalonia refused to understand. I had to wait 4 days before getting a room with a shower. The food at lunch and dinner is basically so identical from day to day that they even sit the pot at the same place on the warming tray. The pool manager went around removing the beach towels from the chairs. He first took a picture then some 15 min. later returned and removed the towel if someone was not sitting in the chair. People could leave their PRIVATE towels for hours and he didn't touch them. I understand some tourist have no chairs. It is a problem at basically every resort I have visited but this resort is worse. The only good thing about this place was the SUN. I have spoken to people who had been at the Catalonia multiple times just like I have. NO MORE. This place is NOT what it used to be. BEWARE!

This resort is located in a beautiful setting with some of the best snorkling I have experienced. The gardens are well maintained and make the exterior of the resort look inviting and tropical; however the interior of the resort is less then admiral. The rooms are dated and appear dirty with broken patio doors. We did not have any air conditioning in our room for the entirety of our trip. We complained on the first night there and was put in a room with no shower curtain, no lamp shades and the toilet didn't appear to have been cleaned in a long time. The next day the staff tried to get us to believe it was the settings on the thermostat from the 70's and blamed us for touching it even though we noticed how hot, stuffy and the strong musty smell when the luggage person accompanied us to our room. The beds were very comfortable and I had a great sleep every night. The staff in the majority of the resort seem to not be happy to be there and do not interact with the guests, except the fellows at the swim up bar especially Fansisco he was great. Fransisco is the saving grace for this resort and I would like to thank him for making our trip special. The food is cold and not very tasty, but there is always something to eat if you don't mind eating the same thing everyday. The crepes at the pool are delicious. The beach party was a fantastic time. The front desk staff are not helpful and down right ignorant. They do not explain how the resort works at all or how to book a la carts. When you have concerns they act like they don't understand you but when they want to charge you money they understand perfectly. The spa is falsley advertised and when they are challeneged about not providing the service advertised they make excuses that are contradictory. The massages on the beach for less than half the price of the resorts spa are fantastic (I had 2). The entertainment staff have endless energy and work so hard to make guests feel welcomed and included. There are not enough beach chairs for all the guests. We went to town one morning and upon our return we checked all areas and could not find 1 chair available. I asked one of the staff members for chairs and they said no so we were forced to go to our room due to no where to sit. This resort uses old style braclet system which is like branding you. Staff are very obvious to give the preferred guests better service and if you have a green bracelet it is difficult to get any service. The preferred guests also have different towels to indicate they have paid more and even though they have their own special areas, (as they should) they take up alot of the areas on the beach and pool and the preferred area are almost always empty and regular guest still are not allowed to use their chairs or beach area. This is one of the worst resorts I have ever been to and I travel alot. I would rate this resort a 3 star at best and I will not return or recommend to anyone. Save your money and keep searching for another resort that will fit your needs.

You have to go onto the hotel website to book . But you will find it practically impossible a,s the booking section is invariable full by the time you navigate to it . Opens at 8am by 8.02. It’s full . You can go and see the concierge who might be able to get you in . Be aware of the what we call a (time share ) offer he offers people with a look at the executive side enabling you to get into all the restaurants including Japanese and steak. Beware it will cost you thousands
