About

Travellers' Choice
Buffalo Mountain Lodge is a peaceful retreat on Tunnel Mountain in Banff, AB. The lodge is surrounded by 9 acres of towering fir, pine, and spruce trees, yet just a 15 minute walk or 3 minute drive from the shopping, nightlife and restaurants that are on offer in downtown Banff. A favourite visitor pastime is to observe the deer and elk who frequently nibble on the lawn, right outside the lodge's windows. The lodge has 108 guest rooms, an outdoor hot tub, and several options for dining, making it the ideal location for a weekend getaway, wedding, or corporate retreat. Buffalo Mountain Lodge is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts' family of companies. Rooms at the lodge have fieldstone wood-burning fireplaces, cozy duvets, LCD televisions and Blu-ray players. Many feature patios or balconies. Each room has been carefully decorated to reflect the mountain lifestyle in Banff-the accommodation is anything but 'cookie cutter.' The outdoor stainless steel hot tub is best enjoyed after an invigorating hike, bike or ski on one of the nearby trails-or perhaps to aid digestion after a sumptuous meal in the lodge's highly acclaimed restaurant, Sleeping Buffalo. You can also enjoy quick bites at our Buffalo Mountain Cafe.

I recently visited as part of a work trip - we booked three days of meetings in the Strathcona room. The food & beverage team was incredibly flexible and were great to work with. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful! The restaurant and lounge were good, but the menu is a little limited in terms of available items for food - prices are higher, but not extreme. Food was tasty! The rooms have been recently renovated and are nicely appointed - the beds were comfy with great pillows (it matters). The wood-burning fireplace was excellent, and helped to take the chill out after a long day - I'd suggest bringing your own fire-starter as some of the wood provided was a bit punky and didn't burn well until the coals were extremely hot. It's about a 15-20 minute walk to downtown Banff; the walk back up Tunnel Mountain is steep but a good workout! There is a Roam public transport bus stop right across the road from the hotel, which is great. Parking is limited onsite in front of your room, but there is additional parking available along Tunnel Mountain Road. Overall, a great place to stay and would consider staying again in the future!

Wish the rooms had more lights and the room didn’t smell so bad. Over priced at the time of booking. Stayed at the hotel for a wedding venue was great food was good. Over all experience was not the best.

We stayed one night in one of the rooms with a claw foot tub, room was spacious and super cozy. New restaurant onsite was gorgeous and the outdoor hot tub was perfect! And pet friendly :) We can’t wait to be back again!
