We stayed the week between Christmas and New Years with the family. Neil Parry (concierge) was a treasure given his expertise of the area and willingness to help. Jack was behind the counter at check in and had a smile as warm and inviting as a fire on a cold day. Our rooms were wonderful and the gas fireplace was a welcomed addition to the room. The beds were cozy and warm too. I ate breakfast at the restaurant in the hotel (The Evergreen) every morning. I was impressed with the teamwork displayed by everyone involved. Calla, Sebastian, and Dexie did a great job making sure my coffee cup remained full. The Royal Canadian breakfast is a LOT of food for the money. Overall, we have nothing but positive things to say about our stay. I would highly recommend staying here the next time you come to Banff!…
Days before Christmas I was in Banff, as I was last January, taking someone to the Banff Hospital for surgery. As I did last January, with very cold temperatures, I chose to stay at the RCL, and not just because this hotel has an indoor, heated parking lot. It was also because of the: accommodating, friendly staff, clean quiet room, and good restaurant. After I checked out, the person at the front desk allowed my car to remain in the parkade until my family member was released from hospital. The outdoor temperature with windchill was -43C, so I was extremely thankful that they allowed me to do this, rather than leave my car outdoors in the punishing cold! Additionally, Banff, during the Christmas season with: stores decorated, carols playing everywhere, and of course the mountain peaks overhead, makes a visitor feel the joy of the holiday season.…
Great Staff! Edward is fantastic and the rooms are super comfortable. Neil super helpful at the door, gave us plenty of tips on how to move around town. We were a big group of more than 20 and we all had a great time. I will come back and do recommend it!
We booked this hotel for a one night anniversary getaway to Banff and had a great time. Every staff member we met from the lovely girl how checked us in to the helpful gentleman who told us where to park went above and beyond to ensure we had a good stay. The room was huge and the fireplace was a fantastic touch - really made the room feel so cosy. It is only a 10 minute walk into the town which was great for drinks and dinner. When booking we told the team that it was our anniversary and in our room there was card and little gift which was a lovely personal touch. Our only little niggle was that we didn't know that we had to pay an additional cost for parking - something that should maybe be added on the website?
Our stay at the Royal Canadian Lodge was wonderful! My husband and I visited Banff on a last minute, extended weekend trip and the location of this lodge was perfect. Our accommodations were clean, tidy and modern. The restaurant had incredible food and the service was impeccable! So glad we got a room with a fireplace - it made our room feel cozy at night and helped dry our wet socks and mittens too. Loved the heated underground parking option. They wash your windshield while it’s parked, which was a nice surprise each morning! Their concierge was super helpful (as was our fabulous morning waiter in the restaurant!) with recommendations and tips. We really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay again!
We were booked into this hotel by our travel agent so not our personal choice, however, we were very happy with it. We were welcomed by Melanie. She made check-in a good experience for us. We had, had a long drive and her customer service was excellent. She put us in a garden room which was generous in size, in good decorative order and spotlessly clean. The beds were very comfortable and our two night stay was perfect for us. It is about a fifteen minute walk to the town centre but the bus stopped right outside the hotel. This bus gets you to the gondola for free if you have a pass. We also got the bus to Canmore. We only ate a light meal in the hotel which was good. Altogether we had a positive experience staying here.
This review is long overdue and refers to stays in March 2016 & March 2017. For 3-night stays it suited us perfectly. If the hotel advertised itself as a ski lodge with old world charm and great staff – like, really great staff, we’d give it 5/5 because that’s exactly what it is and sets the expectations appropriately. However, we’re reviewing this hotel based on the way it is advertised: as a “luxury lodge” with “elegant rooms” for a “romantic escape” and as a 4-star “boutique hotel”. Each one of these words translates to something it’s just not quite. Given the descriptors (and the cost - at about $215 per night for a king bed) we expect a little more as far as rooms go. In reality the rooms were somewhat dated, but clean and served the purpose. The ventilation (heater) was noisy and the in room safe did not work properly. Hotel’s best offerings: 1. Staff (they were great – friendly and helpful); 2. Location & the shuttle pick up to Lake Louise and Sunshine (paid for as part of a ski package through the hotel and in addition to the room cost - was super convenient as it is right outside the front door); and 3. Breakfast (it was fantastic, though pricey). Tip regarding the shuttle: it’s about 20-30 minutes to Sunshine and about 45-60 minutes to Lake Louise. It’s one of the first few pick-ups, so not an issue getting a seat in the morning. But … when leaving the ski resorts and returning to the hotel, line up early as they can be crowded and might not be able to accommodate everyone, which means a long wait for the next bus. Overnight storage of skis is in the basement and works well. Equipment was not permitted in the rooms. Underground valet parking was nice. Hot tub is just ok (it’s in a basement and quite dark; alcohol is prohibited - though we managed to have a beverage or two). When we were there both the lounge and the dining room were pretty low-key (empty), so we went down the street for something a little more lively. It’s only a 15 minute walk to the main strip in Banff. Relatively short, but feels like a long walk if you hit a cold snap like we did. Bring a toque! Highly recommend The Block Kitchen and Bar for dinner (small sharing plates) and Tooloulous for breakfast. Arrive early or expect to wait in line at both. Overall a great time was had and we would consider it again if we return to Banff.…
We have stayed in Banff many times but this was the first and the last time that we will stay at this hotel. The decor and ambience reminds one of a care home. The place needs a complete refurb. On the positive side, the room was spacious. On the negative side there was very little drawer space for clothes and the cupboard with hanging space was located in the bathroom!! The room was not cleaned once for the three days and nights that we stayed there and the floors in the bedroom and bathroom remained dirty . We had to ask for clean, dry towels. The concierge seemed unwilling to provide any advice when asked and was almost derogatory when we asked about making a phone call to another province. The bar was nearly alway empty probably because it was hardly even open. We didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment other than to say that the menu didn't inspire and there are so many better places to eat in Banff at the same or lower prices. We spent most of our time in town and as little time as possible in the hotel.…
Though there has been lots of negative reviews I will start with positives Concierge very friendly and helpful. Swimming pool cool for me but hot tub and steam room good. Negatives. Need upgrading. Noise from air conditioning kept me awake and had to try to buy some sleeping tablets. Housekeeping not provided everyday. This was classed as a 4 star at present I would say it was 3 star
Have stayed here many times always a favourite. This time we had to book last minute and got a standard room. It was great! The rooms are spacious, clean and luxurious. We love staying here and the retaurant is top notch for breakfast!
