Comfortable bed, hotel not as luxurious as it sounds. Quiet at night. Didn’t eat in the restaurant at all so can’t say what that’s like. Good size laundry room in the parking lot downstairs with very reasonable costs for a wash and a dry and the machines are fast. The place is clean enough. No issues with staff, housekeeping are good that they don’t disturb you when the ‘do not disturb’ sign is on the door. Some places do anyway! Room smaller than expected. It’s quite a walk to the shops downtown but it is the first stop for the ski buses in the morning. Stayed at the Ptarmigan last time and that one is closer to town so better location and there was never a problem getting a space on the bus so I don’t think it’s essential to be at the first ski bus stop. Pretty much all of the hotels down Banff Avenue are owned by the same company. The swimming pool is more like a large hot tub. The gym is very small with a rowing machine, a treadmill, an exercise bike and some dumbbells. Good amount of hand sanitiser available in the public areas. The corridors are noisy from people walking past your room talking loudly so it would be nice if other guests didn’t stand outside your room talking especially at 7 am. Tips for Banff Sunshine, the food on the hill is overpriced and not very good, pretty much all junk food, they don’t let you take rucksacks into any of the restaurants so take your own lunch and eat it in the white domed buildings, they are heated, plenty of room and none of this ‘you can’t bring your back pack in’ business. I found that annoying. …
On the upside, the lodge was in a good location, staff were very friendly and helpful, steak in the Keg restaurant was excellent as was the Billy Miner pie. Room was nice with a balcony that faced the street. There was free parking. However, the overwhelming problem that generated this poor review was the high smell of smoke noted in the hallway on the way to the room and that permeated the room, as well. Unfortunately, it aggravated my friends asthma and we were forced to move to another location before we even unpacked. Later we learned that there had been a fire in the hotel in October, as well as they were having problems with their fireplace chimney smoke. We were never advised of these issues before we arrived. Again, the staff was very obliging and helpful in finding us another reservation at roughly the same price but a much smaller room in their sister property, the Fox. This was an extraordinarily inconvenient experience for us overall and for my friend especially. …
(June 2022) Rocky Mountaineer reserved a stay @ Caribou Lodge where we were treated with a free Steak Dinner @ its Keg. It was such a relaxing atmosphere and the food and service was excellent. We had more then enough to eat servings were great. We toured the area after and enjoyed all that we seen. The lodge was decorated with good taste. Loved, loved our stay.
Banff Caribou Lodge is located closer to the outskirts of downtown Banff. They offer complimentary bus passes into the city so you can conveniently leave your car while exploring what Banff has to offer. They have underground parking, unfortunately our vehicle was over the height limit and we had to park out back of the hotel. The staff at the front desk were fantastic. I unfortunately cannot remember the name of the women who checked us in but she was awesome. The other front desk staff we interacted with was Steven. Unfortunately our key card quit working and we were locked out of our room but Steven quickly got it fixed up for us. The "hot pool" is really just a 26 person hot tub. We were expecting a heated pool not a hot tub but we still enjoyed it irregardless. The sauna is also located in the pool area. It was relaxing after a chilly day. They also have a small gym in the same area as well. The hotel itself is okay. Not knock your socks off by any means but just okay. They are well past due for an upgrade. The worst part is the doors. They are paper thin and you hear everything in the hallways. The doors seem to slam everytime they shut as well. It was hard to get a good rest when you hear absolutely everything in the hallway. The complimentary coffee in the morning was exactly what you expect from hotel coffee. Underwhelming. Overall our stay was alright. …
Last Hotel on our group tour. This Hotel is somewhat dated, but still nice overall. The reception staff were quite friendly and our room was ok. We had two double/queen beds in our room. The decor is a bit odd, which to me, makes the room dated, but still nice overall. The cleaning staff missed all the dust on the t.v, and counter top which I quickly cleaned myself. The bathroom was a good size and relatively updated. The only oddity, is that the toilet sits VERY close to the counter top. A place to rest your arm I suppose? The thermostat in our room was for heat ONLY! No A/C, but the window did open which helped to cool the room. Another odd finding was that the mini fridge was under the table between the two beds. Either way, that was alright. The Hotel itself is at the end of town, so if you don’t like walking long distances there is bus service to downtown Banff. There is also a “Keg”restaurant within this Hotel. All in all, it was an ok Hotel to stay at.…
We were diverted to Banff from Jasper due to forest fires so had to book somewhere at very short notice. The first hotel I rang Brewsters Mountain Lodge wanted $1100 for two nights room only. It turns out Banff is very expensive the Caribou Lodge was $814 for two nights room only so hey a bargain! We did not arrive until 10.30PM along with about 30 others all also diverted from Jasper, once the two guys holding up the queue who had not booked were out of the way. As an unexpected bonus they gave us a three-day pass to use the local bus service this came in very useful and was used to visit several of the local tourist sites. If offered take the passes. The room was a good size ensuite had a shower over the bath, TV, heating but no AC, fridge. There is a Keg restaurant within the hotel but we did not use it, quite expensive but everywhere in Banff is. The hotel is situated about 10 minutes’ walk from the centre of town with two bus stops very nearby Caribou Lodge is a good description it is very mountain Lodge style with lots of wooden beams and features. The Caribou is a decent 3-to-4-star standard unless you want to be right in the town a good option for a stay in Banff which is beautiful.…
0 … do not stay here! Staff check in terrible … took ages . Lots of people waiting and one person on desk. Tatty dirty rooms. Asked for 2 bed room … only 1 bed. So I had to sleep in my clothes all night as no one answered phone to make up sofa! So no bedclothes Ie sheets!
Really enjoyed this hotel. the rooms weren't the biggest but they were a good size. the service was attentive and friendly the facilities good. The laundry room was especially handy for us. the attached Keg did a lovely breakfast and dinner and there again I couldn't fault the service.
This rating is not based on the facilities which are good but rather on the horrible support we got when we left items in the closet. Ten shirts were left behind which was our fault. We called the day we checked out, twice the next day and spoke to the manager the third. Sorry, we can’t find them was the only comment we got. Either the housekeeping staff are crooks or they neglected to remove the items and safeguard them from the next guests. A new policy needs to be developed and implemented to safeguard list items are not pilfered and are returned to the owners who would have gladly paid to have them shipped. So disappointed by the manager’s cavalier attitude.
Clean property, efficient staff. Overpriced restaurant, lousy coffee. Good, free internet inside only. Small cramped rooms with flat screen tv, coffee maker (difficult to pour), hairdryer, small fridge. I notice it is noted as a 3 star class hotel, I think that is overstated. Even though the exterior is lodge-decor, the hotel is simply a moderate hotel similar to the many 2 star hotels I have stayed in. They did have housekeeping for the entire stay without requesting (a rarity in 2022). This is not close to downtown but close enough for us avid walkers. They do provide a shuttle pass. Many tour buses will pick up here for your convenience. I would stay again if the price was right.
