Stayed 2 nights over the holidays - paying a typically high rate. Fumbled our way through check in but were aware of this at booking. Noisy on/off heating system. Bathroom floor was FILTHY, corners of bathroom counter grungy - like nothing was ever moved so they could be wiped. . Toilet rocked and clanked every time anyone sat on it. Glass on shower looked like it was wiped with random dirty cloth used on everything else. Stained sheets and grungy extra blanket. We tolerated but did no enjoy our overpriced stay. We don't mind " basic" but cleanliness should not have to be sacrificed for >$400.00 for a 2 night stay. Avoid - we will not be back. Room 103. Will also reconsider any future stays at hotels in the same "family" ie. The Caribou - you are judged by the company you keep!
There is so much going for the Dorothy Motel - rooms are large and well designed, clearly newly renovated with all the modern amenities you’d hope for and some you didn’t realize you’d want. Hip retro vibe, good soaps, coffee, etc. And such a reasonable price! Check in was a little odd but as long as you download the app in advance and know what you’re in for, it’s fine. We also picked up bus passes and real keys at the sister hotel later on. Flooring is heated in the bathroom, but not elsewhere so bring slippers or sandals. All this to say, we had booked in for two nights and left after one. The reason: the HVAC/heating is rough. It was pretty cold out and the little heater/ac unit was just blaring - it was like being inside a hair dryer at night, with the cycling on and off - even with earplugs it was rough. Meanwhile, the overhead vent seemed to be blowing colder air in. So it was alternately too hot and cold at the same time. And loud. The motel is also quite far from the center of Banff but this was manageable and wouldn’t have been a deal breaker for us - really it was the heating system. I can’t imagine what it would be like if it was really cold out. Shame as otherwise, The Dorothy is actually a pretty cool place.…
Clean motel about 20. minutes walking distance to Banff main area Value for price good within Banff‘s high price region Very noisy all-night in-room air ventilation (not the controllable AC) - requires several attempts to get access staff knowing how to turn it off. Afterwards very quiet location.
We spent two nights at the Dorothy Motel. It's a recently renovated, old style motel. The room was large, comfortable, clean, and designed with a bit of whimsy. The motel is one block off the main drag and a handful of blocks north of Banff's busy tourist district. For some, it's well-located, for others it's a 7-minute walk that they'd rather avoid. There is ample parking at the motel. The key system is a bit wacky because there is no front desk at the motel and therefore you use your phone to enter your room. Not to worry, you can get a key from a nearby affiliated hotel. The value was very good. Remember, when you're in Banff you are hopefully spending much of your time out in the fresh mountain air so the motel room need only be clean and well located.
I was surprised that a stay on motel with no staff could be wonderful. Check in online was easy. Remember to keep your phone on you because it is your key. The room was super clean. Parking was safe. The showers were fabulous. Best of all the owners invite you to take one of their wonderful mugs.
My wife and I stayed here Jun 2022 - One of the worst guest experiences in a hotel ever. Summary BAD - King bed but they only have king sheets - literally they dont have King sheets to fit the bed at all so the sheets clumped up - we asked to be moved - sorry sold out - we asked for king sheet but they literally have none BAD - They don't refill soaps or towels at all! - yes you can call and they will say the will come while your out but they don't - we called 5 days in a row. BAD - The pool looks nice but it was cllosed the entire time we were there - dont count on it being open if you wanted to use it BAD- they have no front desk and refuse to answer the phone when you call so plan to walk to the main hotel front desk and wait for 30-45 mins BAD- no security - very noisey - next to gas station - main bus parking area in the parking lot and around the hotel so you dont have parking for guests BAD - THE ROOM IS TINY - there was literally NO WHERE to put one carry on bag let alone two. Plan to live out of the trunk of your car…
Honestly, I am not happy to write this review because the place itself is decent. We have a dog and the location being away from the main busy area was perfect. I didn't mind the 20-minute walk to get to where all the action is. The room itself was nice. Everything that I expected other. We did have some exposed insulation due to a door frame board missing but oh well. The local soap in the room was fantastic - we went and bought some ourselves. The bed was decently comfy and it was just enough for what we needed. At breakfast, we were talking about how we would stay there again... Until we performed a room sweep. My boyfriend and I always search the e room high and low to make sure that we aren't leaving anything. When we looked under the bed, there was a pair of dirty underwear.... (no they weren't ours). I was absolutely disgusted. They weren't even far under the bed... these beds are raised up off the ground on a platform and they were directly under the platform. We were disgusted and started questioning how clean the place actually was if they couldn't even sweep the floor... We will definitely question whether or not to go back to this establishment.…
fully renovated motel. clean and refreshing vibe. close to restaurants and all we need in the town of Banff. the quality of their bathroom towels were not impressed. it’s great that you get to keep the mugs for souvenirs. they have rocky mountain soap body wash, lotion and conditioner that were very good
Would not stay there again, Had to sleep with 2 ears plugs in due to noisy fan heater beside beds, room 102, tried calling room service, No answer. Also No room service over a 2 day stay. There is way better places
the Dorothy isn't in the middle of town, but id you are on a n=budget, this is a great place if the room styles suit you needs. We found the rooms great, recently renovated , very good size, bar fridge, microwave and comfy beds. the App check in is great and the Caribou staff are very helpful and only a call away. We got into town early and the Caribou staff stored our gear till the room was ready. The local roam bus is a great service and stops just around the corner and the ski buses also pick-up at the caribou. So you can get anywhere you need without driving and the walk isn't that bad. When in Banff, we'll be staying at The Dorothy Motel
