The main reason for the three star rating revolves around value. For the five star price you get less than five star maintained accommodations. The cabin setting is fabulous and its too bad that the repairs and up keep are not professionally done. Our bath / shower faucets were oriented backwards and the hot water valve operated the wrong way. Fit and finish revealed less than professional handyman workmanship. The wood stove was great but the chimney was not installed correctly, making it aesthetically unpleasing. The bed was super nice and there was lots of hot water! The place was mostly well cleaned unless you searched into the out of way areas. If the price was lower so would my expectations.
First off, my rating is not a reflection on the staff or the cleanliness of the property. Both were excellent. Castle Mountain Chalets is a three-star property in a five-star location. There’s nothing wrong with that; just be aware of what you’re getting into. The cabins are rustic, as renovations and retrofits have been uneven. Know that the Wi-Fi isn’t the speediest and that you may wind up standing ankle deep in water at the end of your shower as you wait for the tub to drain. If you’re a light sleeper, bring earplugs, because you will be about a city block away from the railroad tracks and an uncontrolled crossing where the train is required to announce its presence. Earplugs are also important if you are visiting in the winter, as the furnace may also wake you up. All that being said, the bed was great, the place was quiet, the staff was very helpful, and there’s a store with a gas pump on site. I have no problem recommending the place, just remember that you will be paying a premium for the location, not for any luxurious extras.…
We rented a one bedroom cabin and it was perfect. Spacious, clean, cozy. Staff super friendly. Our son loved falling asleep in the hide-a-bed (comfy) beside a roaring fire, and browsing the candy section at the general store. Very relaxing. The train does go by fairly close to the cabins, but it didn’t bother us.
2 Bedroom Chalet was very clean and comfortable and included all the amenities that you would expect. Very well equipped. Well maintained. Super location between Banff and Lake Louise....great walking paths so close to the property. We will definitely be back. Great COVID protocols as well.
After spending three nights in this well equipped and cozy cabin, we just didn’t want to leave! Loved everything about it from the mountain views, jacuzzi tub, fireplace and location. Between Banff and Lake Louise with lots of winter hiking trails, fresh clean air and brilliant sunshine! Loved seeing and hearing the trains passing by just across the road! Can’t wait to make a return in the summer!
