We are two couples from the UK who booked a two week ski trip with Crystal Ski staying at Canulta Lodge in March 2024. After a very long day of travelling we arrived at the hotel in the evening to be greeted by what could only be likened to a youth hostel atmosphere with lots of college children milling around the public areas. Our worst fears were realised when they were all also at breakfast the next two mornings and we ended up having to share tables and constantly ask for the food to be replenished in what was also more of a youth hostel setting. The breakfast offering is quite basic and one morning my friend asked for a boiled egg to be told that there is no kitchen and the breakfast and the bar snacks are brought in from another hotel. After a brief respite at the weekend more students arrived on the Sunday and stayed another four nights and this brought a similar breakfast experience. We were then told by Crystal that no more groups were arriving but sure enough two days later another group checked in but this time for one night. We booked this hotel based on the Trip Advisor reviews and the fact that breakfast is included. We have previously been on many ski trips with Crystal and have never had to share a hotel with large school trips. This is not what we expect. We were also allocated extremely dark rooms at top of hotel in the eves with no ceiling light fitting. Our beds were not made and bathrooms not cleaned on at least two days and no hoovering seemed to be done in the whole two weeks. Cups and glasses were also not changed or cleared from the room. There is also no separate bar or relaxation area. The hotel is also one of the furthest from town but is first bus pick up and drop off for the ski slopes. However the bus system is so good that even if you are at a later bus stop they will send another bus as they fill up. I would strongly suggest if you are considering Banff as a base that you stay elsewhere as there are many other hotels along Banff Avenue that are better located and provide a more superior breakfast experience even if breakfast is not included most hotels allow you to upgrade to include breakfast.

The Canalta Lodge exceeded my expectations. Parking was underground, plentiful and easy. Room was sufficient and clean. The overall atmosphere at the hotel communal areas was fun, tidy, and inviting. We were travelling with young children and found the hot tubs, plunge pool, and firepits excellent alternatives to a pool. The location was good and just a brisk 15 minutes to the main area. All staff encountered were friendly. Breakfast was fresh and with a fair variety of options. We were happy with our stay.

We spent 9 nights at Canalta Lodge in February. Rooms were clean, spacious and well-equipped. Location was good - in walking distance of all the shops, bars and restaurants, but in a nice quiet spot. Underground parking was really helpful, as were the guest laundry facilities ($4 for a wash, $3 for drying - cash only!). Breakfast was simple but satisfying and of course I have to mention the s'mores - such a treat after day of skiing! The hot tubs were also a nice touch, however they could get a bit busy at peak times. But the best thing about the hotel was the amazing staff. Everyone went out of their way to make us feel welcome - particularly Phoebe, Kieran and Ben (Scotland!). I'd definitely recommend this hotel to anyone thinking about a trip to Banff.

My family (2 adults & a five-year-old) stayed at Canalta at Christmas for 3 nights. We were satisfied with the size and cleanliness of the room. A very comfortable stay in general. The free breakfast offered quite a variety of options. Get us all ready before catching the 8:30 coach at the door. We were particularly impressed by how helpful and resourceful the staff was. We had rescheduled a shuttle service from Banff to Calgary which the coach company failed to observe. Jordan at the front desk helped us made a reservation immediately so we could leave as soon as possible. He even went the extra mile of calling the original coach company and asked for a refund. We were more than grateful for his help. The only drawback we could think of probably is that Canalta is a bit far from Banff town center. But the bus stop was 1 min away with a fast food shop right beside it, it didn’t bother us much. Highly recommend. Would return for next ski trip.

We had a king room with a kitchen and balcony. Room and bed was great. Only reason not 5 stars for room is pigeon on balcony but service to clean up was quick and Joel made sure he took care of us. The whole staff especially the front desk manager( I think was Jordan )went way above and beyond! Will return this summer.

We had a great time at Canalta. Our room was spacious, bed comfortable and the wider hotel had everything we needed. We were there when a major cold snap came through and it was a great place to be holed up, with lots of board games and space to hang out with friends. Loved the spa and s’mores (although the spa is closed at extremely cold temperatures). One disadvantage was being a 15 minute walk from town which was particularly hard when temperatures neared -40C. There is a bus close by but they don’t come very often. Ski shuttle pickup is right outside. We stayed for 5 night and so the breakfast got very boring - it is just the same menu everyday and not a huge selection and certainly not a healthy selection. No complaints though - it was included for free! We would definitely stay again.

I LOVE this hotel. It represents an excellent value, great rooms, great location, and more. We stayed in early December 2023 for skiing at Big3. Our double queen room with balcony was spacious, clean, comfortable, with everything in working order. Loved the all-natural toiletries owned by a local, indigenous-owned company. And the little touches like bottle opener built in to counter, etc. Ski-wise, you get a free locker in the heated parking garage (at no extra cost). The shuttles for each of the 3 mountains pick up and drop off RIGHT in front of the lodge. It couldn't be easier. The staff are wonderful. They go above and beyond. The amenities are also AMAZING and quite unexpected (in the best possible way) for a hotel at this price point. 3 large hot tubs, cold plunge pool, and dry sauna in the courtyard. Amazing lobby with fireplaces, games, and books. Really great happy hour at the lobby bar. Really good breakfast (complimentary for all guests). The vibe is perfect and the value is tremendous. Highly recommend!

The staff were very friendly and helpful. We even got a minor upgrade to a room with a balcony. However the room was quite dark (no overhead lighting) and the hot water took a very long time in the shower. Breakfast was good and balances out having to pay for parking. Overall it was good but if we stayed here again we would book a larger room for the 3 of us (2 adults and an 8 year old).

A very nice place but with just a few design flaws that make me question a return stay. The hotel is well decorated, warm and inviting and has a nice vibe. Hot tubs are great. Breakfast is comparable to Hilton hotel breakfasts - ok nothing to write home about. The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable but the bathroom is very dark (especially when in the shower) and the shower tubs are deep and a hazard unless you want to have a bath. A walk in shower would make so much more sense and be more comfortable and practical. The doors are so loud don't plan on sleeping past 6am when folks start heading to breakfast all you can hear are doors slamming and hallway noise. The coffee and bar area was a nice touch. The toiletries were the highlight for me, loved the hand made soaps. Overall decent and nice decor, but not so restful.
