We were two couples travelling Together, and we loved our stay at this B&B. Lovely sized rooms, comfy beds, immaculately clean residence. Our breakfasts were well prepared, and delicious. Wonderful location to walk into Banff to look around town and river area.
Buffaloberry is an upscale BNB located near the center of Banff. We stayed in an upstairs room with a king-sized bed and spent three nights. Overall I think the experience was a positive one, the food served is unusual and for the most part above-average. The room is fairly small but the accommodations did not bother us. The hosts know quite a bit about the surrounding areas and will certainly expound on that knowledge for as long as you like. We feel that generally BNB are over-priced in the Banff area and Buffaloberry certainly no exception.
Buffaloberry is THE Paradise on Earth among this world's B&Bs. Theresa & James run this wonderful and classy B&B that exudes cosiness and homely atmosphere. They are wonderful hosts and great cooks...the breakfast is just creme-de-la-creme, and the various kinds of cookies with the afternoon coffee / tea are homebaked and delicious. We stayed with Theresa & James for three nights and enjoyed ourselves tremendously. The Buffaloberry has a classy dining- and sittingroom with a nice fireplace and comfortable leather sofas as well as a very nice patio. Our room was clean, nice and snuggy. :-) Although not located on the main street, Banff Avenue, it's only a few minutes walk...and away from the noise of a main street. The Buffaloberry is so recommendable and we'll definitely stay there the next time we'll be coming to Canada.…
We stayed at Buffaloberry for three nights in mid-September. The location is great - off the main road where most hotels are - but a short walk to the main part of town. Quiet, clean and comfortable room (Oatmeal & Chaff). Good food, lovingly and proudly prepared and presented (accommodating my wife's allergies when told only a few days before arrival). Contrary to some earlier comments, one of the pleasures of travel is to meet, engage in conversation with others and share experiences - that is one of the attractions of a B&B. Teresa and James were the perfect hosts and international fellow guests joined in lively breakfast table conversation. And their tips on what to see and do were invaluable. They made our first visit to Banff most memorable.
The hosts of Buffaloberry have a lovely home, clean and wonderfully maintained. They obviously care greatly about it and are very protective of it. They are gregarious so if this is your style the house will suit you. I was greeted by Theresa at the front door to detail house rules and giving explanations on how things operated. This continued in the room I had booked. If all this is really necessary at such length maybe a more gracious way would be to allow guests to settle into their room and then to talk, seated in the living room over coffee. There is a communal breakfast table with guests choosing the time of their breakfast by writing it on a blackboard. There is no choice of main meal, although muesli, yoghurt and fruit with juice are also provided. I thought the spicy vegetable wraps a strange main breakfast but was told that I should eat up as the hosts were used to cooking large breakfasts for hikers. Whilst the breakfasts are an important element in the reputation of this B & B I thought they were no better than others I enjoyed during my travels through Canada. The hosts continually popped out of the kitchen to detail all the ingredients of the breakfast and to talk about their cycling trips, the fires raging in BC, local stories, and their own travels. The other guests at the table seemed to enjoy that conversation although I found it overwhelming, struggling to have conversation with complete strangers over breakfast. Whenever I left the house one or other of the hosts would appear which was slightly disconcerting. There is parking in the garage underneath the house but room only for two guests' vehicles. Otherwise it is street parking which I was encouraged to use although I did park in the garage. The room was quiet despite being at the front of the house on the road. It is furnished in an American country style. The bathroom is compact but contains all that is needed. Buffaloberry is within walking distance of the main town but it is still a number of long blocks and may prove difficult for some people. Parking in Banff is a nightmare! At CAD$494 a night Buffaloberry is a very expensive option even for Banff. …
The location is a short walk from the centre of town and is ideal. The house is very nicely decorated and very clean. But. The arrival at this attractive B&B was interesting. We were greeted by Aida who took the opportunity, whilst at the front door (where shoes are to be removed and left) to explain the house rules for locking and unlocking the front door both from the inside and outside. Next were the rules for removing shoes and leaving them in the stand at the door. How the door to our room locked on each side was next, followed by the available soft drinks in the fridge and the allowance of one complimentary alcoholic “nightcap”. Important information – yes, but. It depends what you want from your stay – the physical structure and its style, facilities and cleanliness on the one hand and, on the other, the welcome and the atmosphere created by the staff. Has Buffaloberry B&B got this balance right? For us, sadly it was no. My wife is allergic to strawberries, so was pleased when she was asked about food allergies. The pleasure waned a little when told she could leave the chopped strawberries in the fruit mix on the side of her plate at breakfast. Would things get better? Aida perhaps didn’t help with her asking one evening, “How many time do you have to get up in the night?”. This was a reference to my pouring a second gin and tonic (my own). Comments, when assembling our 25+ kg each of luggage about overloading the aircraft and adding “I always travel light.” Didn’t help our enjoyment. Such comments seemed somewhat sharp and were without humour. This is a B&B and a reasonable breakfast was served (at the time you had written on the whiteboard the day before) each morning. Muesli, chopped fresh fruit and yoghurt followed by a hot dish. There is one dish - no choice. Green eggs were novel. Waffles with fruit, cream and maple syrup were fine, unless waffles aren’t your thing. The rooms were fine apart from the bedside light (which Aida didn’t like) which was of lovely style but was useless in terms of illumination. Aida willingly changed for our final night. When we complimented her on the lovely style of her property, our landlady explained she was not the owner. They were on holiday and for the last four years she has been their ‘holiday cover’ coming each time from Vancouver. To pay our bill as we left, I asked Aida is she was alright with a mix of cash and card. I put the cash on her table, she said I could keep the loose change. I didn’t and reluctantly she took it. So, all in all for our last stay in three and half glorious weeks in Canada this was far from the icing on the cake. Indeed, it left a very disappointing last impression. Banff is an expensive place to stay and this B&B is not the cheapest and not worth over CAD450/night.…
This is a great hideaway in tourist busy Banff. Theresa and James are gracious hosts in this very fine house only a few minutes walk from the heart of downtown Banff. Quiet, comfortable and like being at a longtime friends house for your Banff visit.
This B & B is close to the downtown area of Banff, which then has good connections to the many mountain trails. The B & B is very well run. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The highlight offered to guests is the gourmet breakfasts, which will satisfy those with a North American appetite. For the rest of us is an excellent fruit salad with granola and yoghurt. The proporietors are very helpful and knowledgeable about Banff.
These folks are the best! We were welcomed, well taken care of, served some of the best breakfasts, it was great. We'll stay here again if we visit the area again. Great location near town; very easy to walk to shops / restaurants. B&B has parking available on street or in garage under the house. Very clean and comfortable.
So glad we booked ahead and were able to score two nights here on our Canadian road trip. What can I say.... This place is gorgeous!!! The attention to detail, beautiful linens, fluffy towels, quiet and CLEAN you could eat off the floor! As for the breakfast, Theresa is a fantastic cook and her and James serve up the best breakfasts! This morning was gorgeous fresh fruit salad and blueberry buckwheat buttermilk pancakes which were divine! They really are the perfect hosts, welcoming, friendly, informative but not in your space. I can't recommend this place highly enough. Thankyou!
