Detailed Reviews

Due to the fire in Jasper we had to relocate and chose Banff - which we had skipped in the first round. As we were late out, options were narrowed, so we were lucky that Buffaloberry came up - and had a room available.
Wonderful house in a safe area - quiet - and only a few blocks from the Main Street. Parking is in the street and is free.
We were greated when we arrived - and located in our room upstairs. Nice room decorated, views over the mountains. Nice - but small bathroom - but what you need.
Downstairs in the huge living area - we had an afternoon snack - home made of course by Teresa and James. Lovely. The outside patio where you can have a coffee and feed the birds is wonderful, relaxing and James was there for a chat.
It's expensive in Banff - I guess all year around - and the Buffaloberry is on the top of that list.
Breakfast is yoghurt and fruit, coffee, juice and homemade - a little portion of eggs/bacon baked in a little cup/bowl - tasty but small. Toast as well. I could have eaten twice as much - and for the price - I had expected more.
But You pay for the luxury house, the location and for the quietness and few guests.

An absolutely beautiful bed & breakfast with lovely hosts. I had the best night sleep & woke up to a delicious breakfast.
A highlight was hand feeding tiny birds on the very tranquil back patio.

Our stay at Buffaloeberry was one of the many highlights of our vacation to Banff and Jasper. Our visit started with them in Banff and did not disappoint. Teresa and James were the epitome of hostess and host. They were very personable, attentive and eager to offer suggestions. The B&B was so quaint and beautiful. Centrally located to walking to downtown Banff. The breakfasts were to die for. Don't look any further for a place to stay. This is it!!

When we made our reservations we did so based on the reviews we had read and had been posted by others, as well as information presented on the owners’ website.
Unfortunately for us, when we arrived, we were not greeted by the owners, but by someone they had left in charge. The person told us that the owners were away on vacation/holiday--and were also told that the owners had been gone for about 3 weeks.
The room we had was nice, and the bed was very comfortable. Though it was a rather small room, it was very quiet, even being so close to railroad tracks. Our biggest problem was that we felt the service was nowhere near what others had raved about in their reviews of their experiences. The substitute host offered very little in the way of suggestions on what to do, and seemed a bit condescending at times (we had just checked in, and were in the entryway—another couple came to the door who were clearly guests—and we opened the door for this lovely couple, and were “scolded” for “letting in strangers”). Hostess seemed inconvenienced when we asked to borrow bear spray (that the owners said on the website that they will loan guests for hikes), and she did not offer any suggestions regarding where we might want to go exploring in the Banff area. The following morning, when we brought the bear spray back to her, she quipped “I had a note right here to ask you to give that back.” This was off-putting to us.
As for the breakfasts, we felt that they were sub-par for a B&B, especially given the daily rate. On the second morning, the “Lumberjack breakfast"--which we were told was a House Specialty-- came with what seemed to be a tortilla wrap consisting of potatoes and beans; it had very little flavor and neither of us ate much of it.
We do wish we’d known that the owners were not going to be there before we made our reservation. Much of the reason we chose this B&B is because we were looking forward to meeting them, getting ideas on what to do in the area, and having a wonderful breakfast to start each day. We realize that everyone is entitled to get away once in a while, but we wish we could have known that the owners were not going to be there at the time we made our reservation, or could have been notified before we arrived. It left us feeling that we did not get what we paid for.
In summary, we would advise ANYONE considering staying at this property to make sure the owners will be there during your stay. If they are, hopefully you will find your experience more in line with most of the other reviews. Otherwise, we would recommend considering other properties.

What we liked:
Our hosts, James and Theresa, made our stay infinitely more enjoyable than it would have been on our own. We acted on their recommendations for dining (a great steak dinner), and for driving routes (and saw great wildlife, i.e. black bear, elk, etc.). They were very warm and hospitable, and made us feel like we were staying with good friends (and not imposing).
The Inn (house) itself, is wonderful with the most modern, up-to-date amenities and features. Our room was well appointed, and the bathroom was ultra-modern. Some may have found these rooms a little tight, but we were completely happy, and the king-size bed was the most comfortable bed (other than my own) that I've slept in in a very long time.
With B&B's it's hard to find that perfect balance between making someone feel welcome and engaging in just the right amount of conversation versus doting too much or being overbearing. James and Theresa got it just right, although James, you didn't need to brush up on hockey just for us :). The breakfasts were wonderful, although don't expect to scrimp on calories while you stay (James doesn't do "just toast" :)) And, each day we came "home" to a nice baked treat. James's home-made granola bars were my favourite. It was really nice to take an hour or so after a long day of hiking to sit by the fire with a (complimentary) drink to read the paper and relax.
All in all - an excellent couple of days
What we didn’t like?
Nothing negative really to say. The only thing we may have preferred was to have been able to have breakfast a little later on Saturday and Sunday (7-8:30 is a touch restrictive). But, James and Theresa made it up to us by accommodating us for our early departure Monday morning, insisting on serving us breakfast at 6:30, even though we didn't feel it was necessary.
All in all a wonderful couple of days, and very highly recommended for those who enjoy the B&B experience.

We were absolutely delighted with this bed and breakfast. The owners are knowlegeable and personable, the Olds Room was extremely comfortable.
Will happily recommend to friends! Excellent place!
Theresa and James know the area, hiking trails, etc and were extremely helpful. We enjoyed the warm personal touches a larger hotel can never match.

Buffaloberry B & B is the only place to stay in Banff! If you want an upscale setting along with hosts Theresa and James that will guide you through your experience. They are the best hosts that immediately make you feel comfortable.
The breakfasts are gourmet and hearty enough to last until an early dinner.
This is a unique experience that is worth every penny.

The location is a short walk from the centre of town and is ideal. The house is very nicely decorated and very clean. But.
The arrival at this attractive B&B was interesting. We were greeted by Aida who took the opportunity, whilst at the front door (where shoes are to be removed and left) to explain the house rules for locking and unlocking the front door both from the inside and outside. Next were the rules for removing shoes and leaving them in the stand at the door. How the door to our room locked on each side was next, followed by the available soft drinks in the fridge and the allowance of one complimentary alcoholic “nightcap”. Important information – yes, but.
It depends what you want from your stay – the physical structure and its style, facilities and cleanliness on the one hand and, on the other, the welcome and the atmosphere created by the staff. Has Buffaloberry B&B got this balance right? For us, sadly it was no.
My wife is allergic to strawberries, so was pleased when she was asked about food allergies. The pleasure waned a little when told she could leave the chopped strawberries in the fruit mix on the side of her plate at breakfast.
Would things get better? Aida perhaps didn’t help with her asking one evening, “How many time do you have to get up in the night?”. This was a reference to my pouring a second gin and tonic (my own). Comments, when assembling our 25+ kg each of luggage about overloading the aircraft and adding “I always travel light.” Didn’t help our enjoyment. Such comments seemed somewhat sharp and were without humour.
This is a B&B and a reasonable breakfast was served (at the time you had written on the whiteboard the day before) each morning. Muesli, chopped fresh fruit and yoghurt followed by a hot dish. There is one dish - no choice. Green eggs were novel. Waffles with fruit, cream and maple syrup were fine, unless waffles aren’t your thing.
The rooms were fine apart from the bedside light (which Aida didn’t like) which was of lovely style but was useless in terms of illumination. Aida willingly changed for our final night.
When we complimented her on the lovely style of her property, our landlady explained she was not the owner. They were on holiday and for the last four years she has been their ‘holiday cover’ coming each time from Vancouver.
To pay our bill as we left, I asked Aida is she was alright with a mix of cash and card. I put the cash on her table, she said I could keep the loose change. I didn’t and reluctantly she took it.
So, all in all for our last stay in three and half glorious weeks in Canada this was far from the icing on the cake. Indeed, it left a very disappointing last impression.
Banff is an expensive place to stay and this B&B is not the cheapest and not worth over CAD450/night.

My husband and I just returned from a trip to Calgary, Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper. An absolute highlight was our last two nights staying at the Buffaloberry Inn. The room was incredibly comfortable, the breakfasts were delicious and the hospitality was absolutely incredible. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary, and were delighted to find a heart-shaped cake waiting for us after a day of sightseeing. Cannot think of a thing that would have improved our stay!

My friend and I went there last month. The owner were so hospitable. And the ambiance is beyond our expectation. It's the best, hands down lol. And the snacks they made were mouthwatering as well. I will still stay in there next time no doubt.

We had an SUV, it was August though. However, nearly all main roads are very good. We didn't do much off road, Signage for winter tyres/ specific vehicles etc re traffic conditions seemed excellent. But I'm no expert. Give Buffalo berry an email/ring. They are best placed for spot on advice and our experience is they would be only too happy to help. Good luck
You could not get a better BnB ! James & Teresa are very sporty and wil advse on any activity if in doubt drop them an E mail and they will help you
