Many travelers speak highly of Mountaineer Lodge, often commending the staff for their helpfulness and the hearty breakfast options. The hotel has undergone a modern renovation that guests love, complete with practical room features. While the cleanliness generally garners positive remarks, a few guests have pointed out minor housekeeping issues.
The Lodge's proximity to attractions like Lake Louise is a highlight, although some visitors note the noise from nearby trains. Despite occasional comments about the noise and room rates, the overall sentiment is that the hotel provides good value.

We needed a place to stay within easy reach of Yoho NP and were lucky to find the Mountaneer Lodge. Nothing special to look at from the outside, but the rooms were excellent, comfortable, and quiet, and breakfast was served early enough to easily make a 7 am start to a guided hike in Field. We will be staying here in the future.

We stayed here for 4 nights and it was awesome. The room was big and clean. We stayed in the main floor of the main lodge and although we can see the highway from our window and we had it open all night, we barely heard anything from outside. Being in the main floor of an older building, it’s unavoidable to hear your neighbours slamming doors or walking in the room above you, but as long as you have realistic expectations, then you will be fine. This was a super convenient location to go to Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, Yoho National Park, Banff, Jasper and other hiking places nearby. The town of Lake Louise is fairly tiny but there is a great cafe nearby and also a small grocery store. The grocery store is pricey so if you can get your supplies before coming here, do it! The hotel offers free breakfast and you have the option of a cold (muffins) or hot (sausage and eggs) which you pick up from the breakfast room to eat in your room (or elsewhere). They have a laundry room which was handy, but bring coins because the front desk doesn’t always have change. Bring your own soap and dryer sheet if you can, but they do have a soap vending machine (no dryer sheet though!). Overall, for the price we paid, this was a pretty good stay! Will definitely stay here again!

While Covid is making life difficult this is a little home from home. There is minimal contact with staff ss they sit behind a glass screen for check in and while the other facilities are effectively closed they do offer a generous complementary breakfast which can be collected and taken to your room. The room we had was spacious for 2, wiuld probably also accommodate up to 2 smaller members of the family and even had a bowl for a pet. The bathroom was clean and modern with a good shower. There is TV, fridge, microwave, coffee machine and water boiler.
The only negative is the close proximity to the railway so ear plugs are necessary for a good nights sleep. Other than that, it is close to the strip mall and local restaurants and 2 gas stations. Lake Louise is a short drive, Yoho park and Emerald Lake approx 40 mins and Banff is similar. A couple of km away is route 93, which is the scenic parkway to the ice fields and Jasper.
Staff are generally young but enthusiastic and friendly. There are other hotels nearby, some of them expensive. I only awarded 4 stars because the railway could be an issue for some otherwise I definitely would recommend the Mountaineer as it is good value and conveniently positioned.

This room was beautiful from all the ones we had on our road trip. COVID precautions were good: bagged continental breakfast, masks on in indoor areas. The downside was that there was no air conditioning (luckily a fan). The continental breakfast was bagged instead and you filled out a form to hand in to get your items. Social distancing was in effect in the line (with hand sanitizer stations). Items were mini hashbrowns, cheese and egg English muffins, cheese, egg and sausage English muffin (to microwave in your room), yogurt, oatmeal, fruit, fruit cup (like in a kid's lunch), mini muffins, apple and orange juice, coffee and tea. The bathroom had an automatic floor light which we though was amazing, but it became more of a nuisance in the night since it was too bright and would not shut off.

When looking for somewhere to crash between days on the mountain, this place really hit the spot! The price was excellent, the room was plenty big, it was super accessible (parking literally right outside the door), and was clean, warm and comfy.
Having a fridge, microwave, kettle and coffee machine meant no extra bills for take-out, which is always a bonus, and the extra sink for washing up (not in the bathroom) is a score for Mum.
The bathroom was fully stocked with very nice quality soaps & smellies, and they didn’t skimp on towels, like some hotels do. The beds were comfortable and clean, with lots of cozy covers, and lots of pillows.
“I liked the bounce of the beds and the light that came on automatically in the bathroom when you go in, so you’re never in the dark.” Tricky, aged 8.
“I didn’t hate the decor, and I really liked the art work, which makes a change. I loved the bathroom, especially the bath: I wish I could buy the honeysuckle shampoo in the shops! Oh, and the breakfast was yummy.” AJ, aged 10.

Extremely poor cleanliness. It has been renovated, but doesn't show due to the cleanliness issues. Hairs on the toilet when we came in. Washroom had a damp, old reused cloth smell. Big white stain on one of the chairs. Dried food on the ground. A used tissue on the air conditioner unit. When we alerted the front desk, she offered us another room(which was fair, but if this one was dirty, chances are the cleaning staff did not appropriately clean other rooms as well) or to clean the room herself since there were no cleaning staff available at 6pm. Luckily we had some lysol wipes and cleaned as much as we could ourselves. They offered us a 10% discount. This was not a front desk issue, more of a housekeeping issue. Hopefully no one gets sick here.

Stayed 5 nights.
The room was clean. With covid, there was no maid service or atleast we didn’t ask for cleaning. We did go to the front desk for new towels and they were accommodating.
Covid protocols in place. Which meant no lounge, dining room, sauna or hot tub. We knew that in advance and certainly not the hotels fault. What was left was staying in the room when done our day of exploring. The town of lake Louise is a small strip mall- that’s it, again not the hotels fault.
Despite the dining room being closed breakfast was very good and plentiful- go to the kitchen they give you your food and bring it back to your room to eat.
The bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of hot water and great water pressure.
It did get a little noisy some mornings with people up earlier than us. There is the CP train line close to the hotel too. It didnt seem to be much of an issue. Definitely, a good place to stay !!

We stayed in this hotel for a night last week. The hotel is located 10 minutes away from Lake Louise and about 20 minutes from Moraine Lake. The front desk staff were warm and friendly, explained everything to us and gave us tips for exploring the area. We stayed in a newly renovated suite (#39). Our room had very comfortable beds, pillows and very clean bedsheets. It had a mini fridge, microwave and air-conditioning. We had a restful sleep and a fantastic breakfast as well. They had hot items such as sausage and egg sandwiches, fresh fruits, juice, coffee, tea, yogurts and oatmeal. They were served by two young polite youth who used gloves and followed COVID safety protocols. I highly recommend this hotel. From service to location to quality of sleep, this hotel certainly exceeds your expectations.

We stayed in the Mountaineer lodge for 3 nights with our family of 5 in the main lodge building.
Checkin was easy and no issues with front desk staff. Upon arrival in our room, we immediately noticed a musty, almost old cigarettes smell. The room was very basic, the fridge has not been defrosted in a long time. The bathroom floor wasn't cleaned, there were hairs and a broken washer on floor that remained there for the 3 nights we were there.
The location was very convenient - 5 minute drive to Lake Louise was super easy. They also have a shuttle bus which we didn't use because we didn't want to trek our kids and all our gear on it.
The breakfast was decent. A good amount of selection, when everything was well stocked, which was not always the case. We were there for 3 mornings, and every morning there was a lack of cutlery as well. It seems they need more staff for their breakfasts. The breakfast also could be more varied, selection was the same all 3 days we were there.
I rarely leave negative reviews because I know that staff are doing their best and I am not fussy. But for the amount we paid, even though it's in Lake Louise, I think they can do better.

MilliGorilli,
Thank you for reaching out to us.
We try our best to accommodate and grant as many requests as possible whenever possible. We only have 6 pet friendly rooms and they all happen to be on the ground floor, this provides easy access for the dogs to come in and out of the room without having to go through halls or be in contact with other rooms.
You can trust that if your request to be on top floor was not granted it was because there are no pet friendly rooms on the top floor.
Let us know if you ever consider leaving your furry friend at home so you can come back and visit us, I can personally make sure you stay on the top floor in a quiet area so you get to enjoy a peaceful stay.
Sincerely,
Mario Martinez
Hi There,
Our hot tub is closed as we are following the guidelines from Alberta Health.
We appreciate everyones understanding during this time though and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you to the lodge in the future.
This is one of the late check in hotels I have encountered. So it’s not unusual. Having said that, you can always contact the hotel to see if they can help out a bit when you arrive early. I found they were super friendly.
I found that the wifi at the Mountaineer is very good. It is located close to the Village of Lake Louise, which has some pretty paths, but isn't what you visit Lake Louise to see. It is walking distance to Lake Louise Ski Resort (if you want to ride the Gondola there), but it isn't a great walk - uphill on the road. I would say the same of the Fairmont as well - it is a big walk up a winding road - not ideal. There is quite a bit of parking at the Fairmont, but I strongly recommend you take a shuttle if you can to avoid a lot of frustration with parking. The Fairmont is a very busy location. You can rent bikes in town - so if you are into a big climb on a bike, that could be an option.
It is best to contact us directly so we can better anticipate your needs and provide specific assistance.
