Okay, first. No one will mistake this for a luxury property. The room furnishings are a bit worn and 2.5* is the correct rating. However it was clean and offered free breakfast if only just grab and go now in these pandemic times.
The reason I’m compelled to write this review is because of the check-in experience with Irvin who I understand is the overnight weekend reception. Arriving tired, after midnight and hungry as even Burger King was closed, Irvin was so welcoming. He gave us what welcome cookies were left and set us up with Hot Chocolate and tea to get us through the night. He genuinely seemed happy to welcome us and that we had chosen Country Inn and Suites. Sometimes I find that when it is a Priceline prepaid reservation you get the worst room and indifferent service because you got a ‘cheap’ rate. Not so here.
It is because of these little kindnesses we would consider Country Inns and Suites again even though there are so many similar choices in the area.
Great job Irvin!
Well run, as everything was clean and modern. Room with 2 queen beds was very spacious with lots of power outlets for kids devices. Bathroom clean and large. Shower was strong and in bath. Room had Hamilton Beach single cup coffee pot and coffee pods and teas. Coffee and tea drinks also free at front desk in the daytime after breakfast ends.
Breakfast from 0600 to 0930 was a real good hot breakfast with scrambled eggs and sausages, waffles, cereal, fruits and oatmeal as well as 4 different types of cereal.
Swimming pool and gym were good, and clean. Pool is an indoor one as it's Calgary! There was a business centre and laundry room with washers and driers for $2.
Very, very happy with the comfy beds and air conditioning after a month on the road with some terrible hotels along the way. For example we stayed at more expensive hotels that had only a bag of cold junk for breakfast citing Covid19 in August 2022! Also places that had broken air conditioning in 40c weather!
This place is a gem. Friendly staff and professionally run. Outstanding end to our trip. Recommended highly for quality and value for money!!
Large bathroom and closet.
The free breakfast would be a standard hotel one, except for being understaffed, the staff couldn't keep up and were cranky and scolding guests about being in the way when they were only lined up patiently waiting for sething to eat, or about how they put their dishes in the dirty bins that were overflowing and people were just trying their best to be helpful. By 8:30 the yogurt and fruit was all gone so very limited options if you are trying to eat healthy.
For a non-smoking hotel the stairwells and sure smoky. Upper Management must not care much about their housekeepers when they've been hauling everything up flights of stairs for 8 months. In house management doesn't bother to warn guests about the elevator ahead of time even though this is not a new problem. First and last time for this chain for our family!
HOWEVER, having said all that, the hotel is fine for the $100+/- price point. Just don’t think you are getting a genuine 4.5 property for a bargain.
"Do not stay here ! The floors / carpets are filthy .. if elevators aren’t working be prepared to walk up to room ! "Read full review
