I prepaid a 7 night stay for beginning of January 2023. I went through a third party agent, for the location and price. I had stayed in Travelodge previously at different locations, and they all seemed reasonable for the money. However, this location gave us a new experience, which wasn't pleasant. The first 3 nights, room was not made or cleaned, and towels were not refilled. On the 3rd night, the blanket & the bed sheet were rolled up but left on the bed, the second bed was untouched. I went to the front desk and the answer was "I'm sorry, she's off, I will let her know tomorrow!" I was very unhappy and found that unacceptable after 3 nights of poor housekeeping!!! Emailed Wyndham and launched a complaint. The rest of the nights were fine, I'd like to point out. Wyndham answered on the last night of our stay. Basically, they said since the reservation was made through a third party, they would not have anything to do with it. I found that very irresponsible and unacceptable.
Think twice when you book this one!

I have enjoyed staying at this property several times. It is a convenient location with lots of parking. I appreciate the staff and enjoy the breakfast provided in a breakfast room with limited seating. The breakfast was not as complete as it was before Covid restrictions but offered bagels and toast (individually wrapped), cereals, boiled eggs, fresh fruit, coffee, juice and tea.

We just stayed there last night. They made a cute card for my son, for his birthday and a chocolate bar. Beds are comfortable, and the sheets were clean! Unfortunately that is the only positive thing about our stay.

There were 2 adults, and 1 child. We had 1 facecloth, bathmat, and 2 towels. That was it.
I did like The Rag idea.

The air conditioning does not work the best. Our door had a huge gap between the floor and the door. Which meant the heat was just coming in the room anyways.
There was garbage in the hallway by our room when we checked in, and it was still there when we checked out ( we had an early checkin)

The bathtub tap was odd. I could not turn off the shower, but could have both the shower going, and tub filling at the same time.

The reason I will not stay at this hotel...we had the do not disturb sign on the door ( I was preparing for medical procedure) and housekeeping ( we think) just opened our door and was coming into the room. My husband jumped up from the bed, and went to see what was going on. The worker didnt state her name, or if she was with housekeeping. She said oh, wrong room... that was it... no apology, no knock..

This hotel makes charges after you have checked out, they charged my card $300. They claimed the pipes in the room burst due to me opening the window.
Firstly the room temperature was set as hot as a Sauna, the signs in the room said do not turn the heating off, so I did not, a further sign advised not to turn the air conditioning on so I did not. I opened the window because the heat was unbearable. The weather in Calgary was 3 degrees the whole weekend. This dropped on Monday when I checked out but I never once turned the heating off so hot water was flowing through the pipes and therefore would only have burst if they were old and badly maintained. I asked for proof the pipes had burst, pictures from my room and also a bill to indicate cost and work completed. This was never provided. Given this revelation I am suggesting that these charges are made within the hotel to raise revenue and not for actual damage, I am therefore calling on the parent Corporation which I believe is Wyndham to conduct a thorough investigation into the practices of this hotel. I have of course contacted the Better Business Bureau. Please beware and read the reviews of this hotel before booking because this could easily happen to you.

Response from Joban_Brar, Manager at Travelodge Calgary South
Responded Feb 25, 2020
Hi Paul, We have sent you an email with all details on 25th Feb, 2020(email including pictures of busted pipe, water on carpet, plumbing company invoice, temperature history for that week). The temperature in Calgary was -7, -15 on 16th, 17th Feb. During your stay of 2 days we never received any complaint about heat in room from you or any other guest. After you checked out, housekeeper went to room and noticed thermostat at 0, windows wide open, water leaking from busted pipe. Our maintenance person cleaned all the water from the carpet of the room. It took him additional 3 hours to do that. The room was newly renovated and had new carpet. Due to that much hot water on the new carpet, room started smelling. Again our maintenance person had to shampoo the carpet to get rid of the smell and moisture in the room. Due to all this room was kept out of order for 3 days. No charges were put on the credit card for all this. The only charge we made to your credit card was the money we had to pay to plumbing company. I hope you will understand.

After 12 hours of a drive we arrived at the hotel and got placed in a room non-smoking room that smelled of smoke. After going to talk to the front desk person, she was rude and assured us that the room had been cleaned. We questioned why the cleaning staff and front desk staff would still put us in a room that smelled of smoke when they had cleaned it and smelt it that day. We were given a new room which was supposedly the only room left in the hotel which we found out after coming back from dinner that our A/C was broken. We went to ask the front staff about what they could do and a new person informed us that there were 3 other rooms available. We were clearly lied to the first time. The last room we were put in wasn't smokey and the A/C only worked slightly better than the completely broken room but we were too exhausted to switch yet again as we were leaving at 6:00am the next morning. Very disappointing and would not recommend to anyone to stay here.

I don’t like the smell and this room is not clean. So many dirty spots especially on the bed. Stained and marked blanket, dirty washroom, poor internet. They didn’t inform us that they have free breakfast during our check in. Lack of information. Especially on the use of swimming pool, they didn’t even tell us that there is a swimming pool that is open or close at this time, etc…

Do yourself a favour and do not stay here.
We entered a room that looked as if a housekeeper had only been there to make the bed.
Dirty bed sheets with crusty stains on them, headboard flaking off on the pillows, office chair also with crusty stains all over the seat. What appeared to be mouse droppings all over the floor.
Front desk staff alerted to the issues, never offered an alternate room, said he we had to call to change our reservation/ refund.

Stayed at this location because of its proximity to a business meeting and the price of other hotels during Stampede week. The photos looked ok but the room was extremely sub par...

The AC broke on night two and pumped heat into the room while it was +30C outside and kept me up all night.

Bathroom was dirty upon check-in, tub was disgusting, and the hot water in the shower didn't get hot. The TV also didn't work...

Only good part of the hotel was the location to restaurants and amenities so I didn't have to be in the room.

It’s the only hotel that I stay at usually at least twice a month. The staff greet me by name and always make me feel highly valued as a guest! The grounds and building are clean and well maintained. Breakfast starts early and continues for a convenient amount of time. Both the food and coffee are delicious and plentiful! The atmosphere is quiet and relaxing!

Great easy check in from booking.com, beds were very comfortable and clean yay the bathroom could have used a couple extra towels and shampoo/conditioner. All the workers were very nice and easy to talk to as well. This great experience was not expected because it was my first time in Calgary.

Medicine Hat, Canada5 contributions3 helpful votes
I stayed at this hotel on 2 nights - Feb. 13 & 14 and asked for No service on the Feb.14 because I clean after myself for I work in a hotel and thereby feel for the housekeepers. As you can verify with the housekeeping dpt.- that I had thrown all the used towels in the bathtub as is the case in most hotels before I checked out. On the night of Feb. 13 I had a visitor over and asked nicely to the front desk man on after 11 pm. for a simple face, rag, or anything This was so my friend could wash up and maybe, for my use too. The front desk man at the time said he did not have any at the desk. I work in a hotel in Medicine Hat and happen to know that most hotels have access to the housekeeping storage or even some kind of access to linen. For paying for 2 nights this is UNACCEPTABLE and it is UNACCEPTABLE to hotels that want repeat business. I will be thinking twice before staying at your hotel next time I'm in Calgary. All other amenities, complimentary breakfast, and especially the housekeeping dpt. was good. Job well done housekeeping, for the room was well cleaned when I got there. I "finger checked" for dust and everything. SPOTLESS. You should be proud of yourselves. You deserve more credit than you get and I mean respect and $! ( as in the form of wages)!!!! Imagine all the disgusting rooms they clean. I know this for I have and am working in a hotel; now! Why are they not paid more? Are they not valued. Don't they make or break your business and Front desk and different dpt's where is the support. Your reputation is on the line Hotel.
