This bed and breakfast is an complete delight. The willow bed and skylight give the impression that you are sleeping in the great outdoors. The decor is exquisite and it changes from season to season. The hostess is a true gem who is an awesome chef. I have stayed here on two different occasions for two nights each time. The burbling pond, fountain provide a lovely backdrop when you are in the outdoor hottub. Tending Gardens is in a rather unlikely location in Calgary but you completely forget that you are in the city when you enter this wonderful property's old fashioned gate.

My boyfriend and I spent a couple of nights at Tending Gardens. Teena and Al were great hosts!!! The room was very comfortable and made you feel right at home!!! We also enjoyed the hot tub and the fireplace. The breakfast that was served each morning was delicious!!! We can't wait to return for another stay!!!

We highly recommend Tending Gardens B & B when you visit to Calgary! Teena & Al are warm, lovely people who made us feel right at home. The cottage is cozy, bright, & comfortable and leads out to a lawn, garden, & an amazing outdoor fireplace where you are welcome to sit and relax after a day of sightseeing. The breakfast was outstanding and talking to Teena & Al felt like chatting with old friends. We look forward to a return visit next time we're in town!

We stayed for two nights last week with Teena and Al in tending Gardens and we really enjoyed it. It's been a long time since I've stayed in a place where the owners take such pride in their place and in the service they provide.
The house is lovely, I had the Garden Room with its bed stand made from sticks, full of curiosities and nick-nacks. It was certainly one of the most unique places I've ever had the pleasure to stay.
It is clean as a whistle, as I said teena takes such pride in its maintenance and the breakfast provided on both days were incredible, definitely the best I have ever had. Bar none.
The garden is really pretty too and there is a lovely porch upon which you can sit and relax the evening away.
It is very close to the airport so ideal to start or end a road trip and from downtown it is about a 20 minute drive, about the same 25 minutes maybe by tram with the station about 5 minutes walk away.
The restaurants in the area are poor really so best to eat in downtown. There is a huge general store nearby though if you need the basics.
Overall a huge thumbs up to Tending Gardens. it was expensive but sometimes in life you get what you pay for!

We arrived bleary-eyed from the airport, driving through some fairly unmemorable suburbs, and it was the perfect B&B for our weary heads and bodies! We stayed in a room with, as you can see from some of the photos, the rustic four-poster made with authentic branches/leaves, with fridge, fan, en suite, library and seating area. I imagine the little stove heater is lovely in winter, but it wasn't necessary in August. The little porch area just outside the room is excellent in the evening; the garden kept by Teena is beautiful and does a lot to distract from the more plain suburbia surrounding the house. The location is great for the airport or the highways. The breakfast was perhaps the best we had during our three weeks in Canada- pineapple with chocolate sauce and pistachios, followed by egg souffle with toast and homemade jam - though I get the feeling Teena has more wonderful creations up her sleeve... Teena also knows the importance of a proper cup of tea for those Brits who may have found Canada's approach to the beverage as, shall we say, 'inconsistent'. Definitely a business worth supporting.

I enjoyed my stay at Tending Gardens B&B immensely! The decor is fun and interesting with all kinds of nooks and crannies filled with clever details. The bed itself is a work of art. Teena, the hostess, told me that it was hand built just for the room. It fits the overall theme of the B&B perfectly. The backyard is ridiculous. A pond, a hot tub, and an outdoor fireplace, all set in a beautiful garden- there are flowers everywhere!! The location itself is a bit odd being in the middle of the city, but once you are there it is a complete nonfactor. The B&B is situated close to the airport and there is easy access to the highway on the way out to the Rocky Mountains.

The breakfasts were unparalleled. The pancakes are made from scratch. I have never had one as good before or since. The bacon was thick cut directly from the farmer's market and the chicken sausage on day 2 was every bit as delicious. The fruit and yogurt parfait that accompanied the main course was also amazing. The coffee was delicious, hot and fresh every morning which is important for an afficiando like myself.

Teena and Al are the best part of the entire stay. They are warm, inviting, and easy to talk to. Also, Al was super helpful with suggestions about things to see and do. Teena's grandson was also there one of the days we happened to be there and was every bit as amazing. He sat down and ate with us at our request and provided us with smiles and entertainment- what a character!!

Overall, this was one of the very best travel experiences we have ever had. Good food, great people. We will definitely be coming back.

Our flight was delayed and we missed a connecting flight meaning we weren't going to arrive at the accommodation until 11.30pm. The hostess went out of her way to welcome us at this late hour which we were grateful for.She also recommended a scenic drive to banff with printouts the next morning . The breakfast was homemade yoghurt with fruit and nuts ( delicious ) followed by quiche which was a bit different but absolutely lovely. But this B&B is a bit different ; the bedroom has a tree decor but the room has all the comforts needed and a bed you could sleep in for a week. The quirkiness was just a welcome extra. I would stay here anytime.
Also , the lift to the airport was much appreciated.
Thanks again.

We stayed for two days and liked everything - the room, the garden, the breakfast, and of course our hosts, Teena and Al. The location close to the airport, public transportation and supermarkets is very good. If we ever come back to Calgary, we'll stay at tending gardens.

This is a fantastic B&B. We had a long and tiring flight, but Al and Teena gave us a very warm and friendly welcome and made us feel right at home. They are lovely people and they will make your stay memorable. We had the privilege of staying in the Rose room on the first day of our trip and (three weeks later) the Garden room on the last day. Both rooms are pieces of art in their own right. Breakfast was amazing both times. Definitely would love to visit again!

The welcome was very warm at Tending Gardens and we were looked after as well as this led us to expect. The bed in our room was a work of art, quite unlike any we had previously seen; the ambience of the garden (clearly as tended as the name of the B+B suggests) as we sat on the porch, was delightfully relaxing after a long, hot day; Teena's breakfast was the equal of everything else. Altogether we would recommend Tending Gardens highly.

Is it easy to get transportation to the airport very early in the morning? Do you have late check-in?
Answer from jimru
Liverpool, United Kingdom8 contributions8 helpful votes
The owner was kind enough to let us into the B&B at 11.30pm after our flight was delayed and I rang her from Toronto airport so I am sure she would accommodate a late check-in. There should be plenty of taxis from Calgary airport at all times; just ask them to take you to the B&B the SHORT way through the tunnel and not the long way around. I can't remember the exact price but this should save you a few bucks. The owner was also kind enough to give us a lift to the airport after breakfast so that we could pick up our rental car.
